Fun with the Freighters

FSX68

I am enjoying the Cal Classic's DC6A freighters

http://www.calclassic.com/dc6b.htm

FS2004/FSX Flying Tigers Line/American Airlines DC-6A CB-17 Base Pack. Now includes opening doors, cargo, and ground equipment! This plane comes in two version, Combi and Freighter. The Combi version is painted in Flying Tiger colors. Flying Tiger Line came on the scene after WW2 as an all-cargo-airline flying the Curtiss C46, C-47, C-54, DC-6A and Connies. Painted by Wayne Tudor, this livery gives you a freight carrier to fly. It's sister was leased to Northeast and crashed on Riker's Island (NYC prison site) in 1957 after takeoff from La Guardia. The Freighter version is painted in American Airlines colors by Frank Gonzalez. American used their DC-6A's in transcontinental service. Thanks again! This Base Pack contains the flight dynamics for the DC-6A with CB-17 engines.

I installed my own realistic engines. There is the Tufun style engine turn and smoke effect (Engine flame effect). Works great in my FSX/Accel

Thank you for the HU, it is a wonderful plane! I found a nice R2800 sound by SkyHigh Audio Simulations to go with it - super combination!

I just now uploaded a replacement front panel for the VC to get it looking more like the 2D cockpit.

I'd be interested in this panel you speak of. Please let me know when/where it is available. Thanks

No Landing Lights

One thing I noticed is that there are no landing lights. I looked in the Aircraft.cfg file and no call is being made for them either.

Shockwave lights

Here are the shockwave lights configuration for the DC6A freighter, I pretty much authored all the shockwave lights as to where they should be on this airplane. It now has a decent
set of landing lights. And yes, it had blinking strobe lights on the wing tips.

Tried to install this but was less than happy with the result. The aircraft showed up, but in the cockpit, I got severe jittery movement that was very distracting. When switching to an outside view, the vc remained in ghost and jumped around.

Sadly, this one quickly went to the uninstall bin. The conversion to FSX Accel didn't seem to take.

That too bad, I use fsx win 7 64 bit and all that jazz and it works fine for me. I don't know what you did to cause your results. I'll tell you that you most likely didn't rtfq on the
classic sim page. There is one file in the dc6a base pack (dc6pnlKMCC) that needs to be installed in the FSX Aircraft folder. It is the ONLY file you need out of the DC6a base pack for this
to work (the panel). I have one of Banana Bobs props that I substituted and that looks much better. Sorry it don't work for you but hey I sure am have a ball with it. :icon_lol:

Yeah, actually I did...

In fact. the original link in their DC-6 CB17 README is dead, so I went directly to the page for instructions. After deciphering through it, I thought I did have it all.

If CalClassics would like their stuff to port over to FSX, why not just put a package together that includes everything to ease things? All of the "drag from this to that" is rather poor.

I concur abut the drag from this and that but in the end what you see that I have posted is testimony that it will work in FSX. If it didn't, I wouldn't of wasted my time on it
posting it here. Thought I'd share something and that would be well received. Apparently I was wrong ; I just may stop doing this and just keep these things to myself.
I can sense from this what problems I will receive from future HU that I want to share here. I've learned my lesson well. :stop:

Ah... you finally seen the light! My brother told me such.

I dunno - one guy says he had trouble getting it to work and made a reference to the way Cal Classics put the package together (or rather, didn't) and the OP decides he's done with the lot of us...?

hey whatever is cool - but it is a bit thin isn't it?

isnt Cal Classics and NorCal Prop Club the same entity..? if so it explains much

I was going to add and EDIT: I would share Hu with my friends as I know them better (or so I think) and not have to deal with the it don't work yet it does for me.
I don't like the drama of that kind of ping pong. Life is just too D@M short. And I don't have too much of that left either. A smile for you sir :icon_lol:

if you haven't got it yet, it's up here in the sim-outhouse.

I also suggest you sharpen up the VC textures in the texture folders a bit, that cockpit really comes to life.

I would post my set but I'm too lazy right now to ask for permission over at CalClassics - I hope they let me get away with the initial file, I just didn't think about it before posting it, sorry:salute:

Best,
Sascha

I may of got a bit short here with those here on this thread. I had a very nice garden this summer for which I shared a lot of my vegetables with neighbors and friends at church and not a
one of them complained that what I gave them had a worm in it or it was rotten; they just took it for what it was meant to be given/received as and that was it.

I do think that I'll rescind my comments about not sharing further HU's but with on little hitch. I am taking a note from the playbook of used car dealers:

I think devs and freeware and payware put some kind of disclaimer in it. After all, I was just the messenger.
That should be more then fair don't you think?

What's an OP?

Original Poster or thread starter...that was you in this case

of course my reply which you quoted was not directed toward you - only referred to you...it was a question more for TuFun..who seems to hold a certain opinion about this community at large

Sorry about that, again I mistook to whom that was directed at. :redf:

no worries - I like your 'used car disclaimer' by the way...I don't wonder that every 3rd party developer hasn't already adopted similar - I know they mostly cringe upon announcing a new release what with all the inherent little problems that always go with it...I always admire their patience.
