GMax Kako

stuart277

SOH-CM-2025
Hi all,

I have just uploaded a GMax model of the IJN Cruiser Kako.

It is my first GMax model.

It has no textures, moving parts, damage model, or LOD's (but these can be set up in GMax.

I could have done some simple texturing, but I can only do monotone's at the moment.

Better leave it to the experts.

I hope someone can skin it.

Cheers,

Stuart

PS Any feedback will be appreciated.

I will work on a model of the IJN Aoba in the next few days.

What is the poly count? As for the texture. You cshould be able to use the stock textures to make one quickly.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Ships Add-Ons

Description: This is a GMax rendition of the IJN Cruiser Kako. This is my first go at GMax so, one step at a time for me.

The model has no textures, moving parts or LOD's. It does have a hierarchy system that should be fairly straightforward.

I have made it for CFS2, but I don't know how to set it up for export to CFS2.

I can only do monotone textures, so I will leave that to the experts.

Included is the source file and calibration box files.

I hope that someone can skin it.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart277,

Thank you for your work on this, I'm sure some in our community are breaking out their paintbrushes!

Thanks for your interest

Hi Allen and Bloodhawk.
Thanks for your interest in the project.
:jump:
I have found a couple of 'glitchs' in the model.
1. The 8inch turrets have strange material types. Looks like I have done something to them in relation to the calibration box.
2. The boats are a bit wonky.
3. The catapult was missing a face at the front.
4. The 5inch guns and gun tubs were a bit small.
I have corrected the problems and will upload it shortly.
This may or may not be of help with the dp file. The Virtual Navy has a model of HMS Exeter which is similar.
The original hull box was 185m x 17m, but it is now a bit longer (bow) and a bit wider (bulged).
I have also finished a model of the Aoba. You can have it if you wish, just pm me.
I am about to start work on skinning it. It will probably take me a long while as I am only just learning how to use Paint Shop Pro. (and GMAx)
There is some useful information on skinning here at SOH.
Again thanks for your interest.
Cheers
Stuart

as long as the measurements are right in the current model, I'll be fine. do you want stock effects or Nanni's. I could do one of each if you'd like.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bloodhawk
Thanks for your efforts.:jump:
I know that Nanni has done some special effects, but I don't have them.
If it is not difficult to do both, I guess both would be good.
There is no CFG file.
The catapult could be used. I don't know if it makes any difference but it is currently trained aft-fore.
It would probably be better if it weas trained 30-45 degrees to port or starboard, which could allow for an easier launch. (something I should have thought about when I was designing it). I remember you helping me with a catapult launch from the Nisshin. My Nisshin model has the catapult trained at 90 degrees and doesn't seem to take advantage of the ships speed for take off. Takeoff works 'most of the time', but sometimes you end up in the water, but you can still take off from there.
I can do that easily in the model and send it to you if you think it is important or if you are familiar with GMax you could do it yourself.
The model has no 'copyright' and people can alter it as they wish.
Again thanks
Stuart

I can add the deck.

your plane has to be equipt for cat launch using the greenghost guage.

If you made a second cat version with it turned then we could add the deck to it. people would have to turn their plane for launch thats all. if the angle is right i could try to have them already lined up.

Its up to you.

Fellows, I find this thread extremely interesting. A lot of which you say is out of my scope but it is really good seeing a ship coming together with united skills. Thank you all for allowing me the chance to be 'in the stands' as it develops.

Great stuff!

KakoCatapult

Hi John
I have made a catapult version of the Kako. The Catapult is set at 45 degree's to Port.
I have posted a jpeg of the change to see if that is what you need.
If it is OK, then I will put the model in the download section.
Cheers

excellent!

Once i have it i'll make the Deck. i'll try to have the planes lined up. that way the deck only has to be wide enough for the gear.

KakoCatapult

Hi John
I will upload the Catapult Version.
I had a go at texturing the Model. Hmmm! Nightmare material!!

Description: Hi all,

This a a GMax model of the IJN Kako with the catapult trained at 45 degrees to port, to allow for floatplane takeoff.

The Crane position has also been altered to allow a floatplane to sit on the catapult.

Cheers,

Stuart

I have encountered a problem while doing the DP.

It seems you have her sitting on top of the water. The ships center of gravity should be where she sits on the waterline. She needs to sit about 5.6 meters lower.

View attachment 85932

Now i haven't put her in game yet. this is just from the Gmax model. Both versions will have the same issue.

Get back to me.

I'll send you a PM with my Email. that way you don't have to keep uploading it till we are finished.

Till Later.
John
