Going away for a bit

Retired SOH Admin
But I will be back! I know, I know....you were all hoping that I was leaving for good....but your luck is not that good. Deb and I are 2 days away from moving out of our current place, and will be spending a few nights in her mom's basement (a nicely finished basement luckily). Saturday afternoon we will begin moving into our new place. Internet will be hooked up on Monday there. I need to unhook our puter systems and get them ready to move tomorrow and to give the office carpet a good vacuuming and shampooing (It needs it! I have no idea where all those tater chip crumbs came from!) before we move out....so here in a bit I will be without internet access for a week. This will be a test to see if people can actually live without the internet...if I am back on Monday, then we will know that people can live without the net. If I am not seen on here by Wednesday, then you all can assume that I am dead and plan the memorial service/Thank Gawd He's Gone Party at your earliest convenience.

I'm thinking we should be reviving the Grateful Dead. ROFLMAO!! :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

Good luck Tim. Be watching for ya. :guinness:

good luck Tim

Of course you know this may be the end of civilisation as we know it.And now we should all quake in fear that it's the end of SOH , or worse the patato chip industry. Fair winds and following seas my friend(whatever the hell that means ,I think I saw it on a cereal box)

Well, by the time you read this you should be settled into your new digs. I hope the move went well!

I can sympathize with that disconnected feeling! My old computer died at the end of August and it took almost three weeks to have a new rig built, set up and installed. During that period I had to pester friends and neighbors to let me check my e-mail and I felt very out of touch!

Welcome back (I assume you won't be able to read this post until you're back.)

Well, I am alive and wellish....have a kink in my neck from sleeping on a love seat for the last couple of nights.....Deb took the couch and the floor is too darn uncomfortable to sleep on. Tomorrow our new place will be vacated FINALLY and I can begin cleaning the place up for the move in. Having done a walk through with the landlord a couple of evenings ago, it became quite clear that the lady who lives there now is deathly afraid of vacuum cleaners and all cleaning products. Yuk! I have seen hog wallows that were cleaner!

Four more days and I will have my internet back....not sure if I will have my system set back up then or not. I am using my in-laws' super slow puter and internet connection to get my fix of SOH....been in withdraw since yesterday.

I can sympathize. My sister and I cleaned several apartments after the previous tenants moved out, naturally not having cleaned anything before leaving. One person even left behind food in the refrigerator, which wouldn't have been too bad if the power to the apartment hadn't been cut off for at least a week.

My advice: Lots of disinfectant, and a long pole :icon_lol:.

P.s. O/T: A mixture of vinegar and water works extremely well for cleaning windows if they're not too dirty.

We are in the new place, internet is hooked up, my puter is still at my sis-in-law's house (next door). Luckily I had the laptop packed up with my 60s era USAF fighter helmet and a few other of my collectibles. Between Saturday evening and all day Sunday, Deb and I (and Deb's mom and sister) busted our butts getting this place cleaned up. The living room carpet along took 12 gallons of scalding hot water and nearly 3 GALLONS of bleach to get clean...and it still needs more cleaning to be fully CLEAN. At least it is no longer black and packed with dirt, grit and animal hair....and all the juice, apple sauce and stuff that the kids who attended the lady's illegal day care spilled into the carpet.

Spent 14 hours today moving stuff in, putting stuff away.....and still have stuff to put away and to organize AND still have a van load of stuff in my mom-in-law's garage....man we had a TON and a half of stuff.

I am looking to sleeping in my bed tonight. Five nights sleeping on a overly stiff love seat is enough to nearly kill a man. My back is so kicked and twisted that I can smell my farts BEFORE they leave my rectum LOL! And that's never a good thing.

Should be back to a more normal existance in a few days. I hope.

Tim

Darn it, we were all going to run away and hide and see if you could find us!
Glad you are settled almost..:icon_lol:

Yep. Sorry guys, the party is cancelled, he is back!

That sounds like a helluva cleaning job! Reminds me of some of the houses I used to see when I worked in social housing - the ones where you wiped your feet on the way out!!

Living room is DONE and looks great. Kitchen is DONE and looks great...well, there are a few things to do in there yet..organize the silver ware and cooking utensils and figure out where the dog treats are going to be kept. Today, the garage was cleaned out...the slob moved out and left nearly 2 truck loads of trash and junk behind. The landlord called in a trash hauler and they hauled it all away. Then I Oxy-Cleaned the floor, then bleached the floor, then my father-in-law came over with his power washer and really blasted away all the grime, slime and stink. Did a lot of yard work today....the grass was only mowed once all year....looked like a hay field.

I have fixed the upstairs bathroom drain (plugged up with a ton of hair), fixed the leaky kitchen drains (had to replace the sink baskets), replaced the busted light fixture on the back patio, replaced some broken door stops, getting our energy efficient light bulbs swapped in place of the regular light bulbs. The landlord is going to knock a LOT off the security deposit for all the cleaning and repair work I am doing!

Just spent the last 3 hours getting my two fish tanks out of my sis-in-law's place, getting my puter system hooked up and online, getting the office decorated, my books unpacked and trying to organize the closet....still not done, but much closer.

My joystick and TrackIR system are still boxed up...and will remain so until I get the house totally together....so a week or so until I can fly and crash and paint.

You are quite the handy man Obio. We're in the process of remodeling our house so I can appreciate your efforts.

Seems to me the landlord ought to give you at least a free month's rent for all of your efforts. If he/she had hired out a handy man to do all of that work it would have cost him/her a bundle.
