Gorgeous Paul Foster Vulcan B.2s

I had no idea Paul's Vulcan turned into the PSS version! Not to sound funny but where did you hear that, Andy? I am very curious, as the PSS version is the one that gets all the fame and glory, but perhaps now I know why if it is Paul's legacy work. As I've said on here many a time, Paul's exterior model (no VC included as we know) was really nice on his freeware creation. I love his work, and it was his superb Canberra line that was a big reason I got into repainting in the first place.

What has he been up to of late? Anyone know?

Got to be honest Steve, can't remember where I heard it, would have been yonks ago; but the mapping IS identical. so it makes sense.

And I agree with you totally about his Canberras, I've just reinstalled his Mk 8's & all the repaints (including my own feeble efforts) from your Nazca Studios site, and his PR9; the PR9 set included, of course, the Short SC.9, which illustrates Paul's thoroughness - I'm in the midst of repainiting that to add to my retro RAE Bedford. :applause:

Very nice Andy, as I said I never got round to repainting his Mark 9s as they were so damn good anyway. The SC.9 was a beaut I agree. The man was very thorough in his model variations, getting all the aerials, lumps and bumps just right. He certainly set the bar high for me when I made mine I can tell you. Definitely a good thing.

I wonder what arrangement came from the freeware model going over to PSS then? No wonder everyone loves it, as Paul's was stellar. The curves, the smoothing, especially around the intakes are brilliant.

Now I wonder if Mike Stone could be tempted to share his source files on the Valiant for a new freeware update...

I think you will find Paul Foster's Vulcan is nothing to do with PSS, the mix up is with the name Phoenix used by Paul and PSS at one time

yeah me and Andy have a love for the old TSR....

back on track..... Vulcans downloaded! time to run to my paint shed and order more paint.... running low after current project :icon_lol:

Since you two are such TSR.2 fans (a good thing indeed) I wonder if you have checked out the Japanese anime Stratos 4? Even if you are not anime fans, it is pretty cool seeing these (modified) TSR.2s in action in a cartoon. If you look carefully you can even spot a Shackleton and a Valiant in one episode. Now, anime fan or not, the fact that these rather unsexy old birds can make into a cartoon is something. I even have the new Airfix kit of the MS version - cheers Japan for keeping the flame burning (even if a certain government did their best to put it out...grrrr).

spotted these earlier, the TSR2s are used for Meteor hunting if i recall what i read, and they have an extra Rocket Motor on the base of the tail, which'd be kinda pointless given the TSR2's all moving tail :icon_lol: be interesting yaw thats for sure if you have it on and accidentally boot the rudder :icon_lol:

Good point indeed, I'll have to check the kit and see if an actual rudder in the traditional sense was added above the booster nacelle.

Took my old Valiant paints up for a spin tonight using the new FDEs over at Britsim. Heavy handling and buffets a lot over 360kts. Will peruse the pilot's notes tomorrow to see how this measures up. Nevertheless, it was fun taking them out over the Suez. Another nice looking old girl.

Interesting - is it just an odd coincidence then that the mapping matches exactly then?

Erm, my mistake. I had 2 Vulcans in my install, so I assumed 1 was the PSS version, and 1 was Paul's - turns out I have two of Paul's, let us just call it a senior moment. In fact, now I have dug out my PSS Vulcan to reinstall, the mapping is not the same.

Duff information, sorry guys. :kilroy:

Well then, all hail the mighty freeware Paul Foster Vulcan!

Andy and Smoothie are not the only TSR2 drivers out there, mind you...:kilroy:

I didn't know Paul Foster had done a seperate version. I'd like to get me hands on it and decorate it with Steve's artistry.

So tell me now... who's Vickers Valiant is that in the screenies? Is it the older Alphasim model?

Britsim have the old ALPHA one, yes.

Britsim have the Alphasim model but (as Steve said) they also have an upgrade pack & new soundset; just do a search on Valiant, quite a bit of nice stuff. And you might also download Ian's RAF Luqa while you are there, give you somewhere different to fly them from. :salute::salute:

Interesting thread, nice model, great paint's. One thing puzzles my from the thread name, is it the Vulcan that is gorgeous or Mr Foster himself :d

The V three are my fav cold war era jets, kinda includes the TSR.2 aswell, maybe it should have a 'V' name also, Vanguard (already used), Vengeance (used but US), Valency (atomic age and all), Valkyrie (already used), Valhalla (slain heroes not a good thing!!), Valour (I like it), Vandal (erm, no), Vasectomy (silly, but painful, lol).....

I'll stop now, dictionaries are quite boring!

Jamie

You wouldn't think it possible, but I somehow missed this model, first time around...
With the revised FD's from Britsim, and Steve's nice shiny paint - a real pleasure, and thanks for resurrecting it!

"Vengance" has a nice sound to it, only because it's right along the same premise as "Spitful", a fighter which was born from the ultimate developement of the Spitfire. Some may have taken offence to the name, "Vengance", even back when the TSR2 was undergoing test flights. Still, the name "TSR2 Vengance" fits that magnificent machine perfectly. Aside from haveing a somewhat "spooky" appearance, (from the front). The TSR2 looks "vengeful".

:salute: Thanks Steve for reminding us of Paul Foster & co's excellent rendition of this unique and monumental aircraft.

During the seventies, the Vulcan participated in low level NATO excercises (Andy and Smoothie probably remember the name for thos excercises) in the USA much to the amusement from 'certain involved parties'.
The trial performance scores quite wiped the smiles from the faces of those Gentlemen and were thus instrumental in the UK extending the service of this fine aircraft.

My last personal (and for me, somewhat amusing) glimpse of the Vulcan was at an airshow held at HMS Daedelus in 1980. At that time my grandparents (God bless'em) lived 200 yds from the base, with a perfect view of the active runway from an upstairs bedroom.

A wonderful weekend spent there, highlighted when my young, Greek wife accompanied me over the fields to reach Daedelus. If you're asking; did we 'do it', the answer's; don't be ridiculous. When there's an airshow about to start?... Are you kidding me?

Anyway, we were about half way accross (the field!) when, to my delight, the Vulcan put in her appearance.
From behind.:jump:

My wife was merrily chattering away, as Greek wives or, come to that, most wives do.

So there's the Vulcan, downwind, low, low low! And coming in f........ fast...as Vulcans often do. :applause::icon_lol::bump:

The wife, poor girl ( :icon_lol: ) literally didn't know what hit her!:icon29::guinness::jump:

The enormous shadow cast by that massive delta... those screaming engines..... awesome!
And it's the only time in our entire, blissful ( :icon_lol: ) marriage when I could see her yacking indignantly, but all I could hear were those four glorious Olympus engines.

Paradise!

And that's why I decided to become a ...(NO! not a waiter idiots)

Sound developer. :icon_eek:

EDIT;...okay, okay, I had it coming to me; maybe I should be serving kebabs and ouzo in some nice Greek taverna.

lets see low level.... well take your pick of 3.... Red Flag, Green flag or Giant Voice :icon_lol:

but yeah i do enjoy the famous 'Vulcan Howl', in fact theres several planes i love for the noise... F-104, F-16, Mirage 2000 (Anyone care to guess where i last heard all those 3 on one single day?) :icon_lol:

Back to Vulcan..... got the model installed, gotta finish a few other bits before i move onto her....:salute:
