Gypsy Moth

Nice one Huub! At The Old Hangar a thread about the Gipsy Moth included a post by Paul (GAS) suggesting that there will eventually be an FsX native version too! :applause:

That good news. The longer you look at this model, the more you realise it is actually a VERY nice model.

I'm more or less finished whit the the top from the upper wing.

To compare; the top is my new texture (without weathering/dirt) and at the bottom the default texture.

Cheers,
Huub

Ddin't have a chance to try it out until now, and I must say it is a very nice aircraft indeed! :applause:

Sweet Huub,

I have a repaint in mind, your shading textures are just so nice.

Greetings from Maine, hello Tom.

I did my own OceanHeightBitmap. I saved an image of a very hi-res section of the Atlantic Ocean from Google Earth at an altitude that looked just right for FS9.

I brought the image into Photoshop and cropped it at 512 X 512, then Grayscaled the image and Inverted it. I saved a copy of the the one already in FS9, from REP, then inserted mine. I have no gripes. :mixedsmi:

She is fantastic. I have missed her a lot. My country's aviation used it before WW2 in Flying Clubs and in the AF. The first Moth was bought when Poland purchased the license on wing slats from Hadley-Page in late 20's to build own tourist planes.
I'll try to create few repaints. The first is almost ready, attached below. The plane from the screenshot took part in Rome-Bangkok flight in 1931. I am planning to paint LOT Polish airlines Moth and G-AACM which belong to Bernard Skorzewski, DH Moth's dealer in Poland. He and his wife performed very interesting journey through North Africa and Southern Europe.

Best,
Lucas

One more, this one is from LOT airlines. WIP of course. I will upload them somewhere during the week.

I have the same problem as Huub with the radio etc.

Can someone clever do a repaint as Amy Johnson's G-AAAH 'Jason', please? Then we can fly to Australia in it!

Actually the model is wrong for Amy's 'Jason',
Amy replaced the front cockpit with an extra fuel tank (Amy was also qualified as an aircraft engineer btw and knew what she was doing)...now if it was on floats, then you could be Sir Francis Chichester and fly
across the Tasman Sea (he also flew solo to Oz, and was awarded the first Amy Johnson trophy)

It was not me but Casey Jones who reported the problems with the radio and GPS. But as military aircrafts were not commonly fitted with radios and GPS was not invented long after the 1930's. I might have been done on purpose by the designer.

Cheers,
Huub

Thanks Huub, your wing adjustments look great as well!

The repaints have been uploaded to SOH. More to come later.

Hey Jim - and guys

There are now two packages of four paints in each package of the Moth over at classicbritishfiles.
First has four British registered , the second four Australian registered by Peter Watkins
He is also preparing a third pack with Canadian, and Swiss paints .

hes fallen in love with the textures apparently ;)

At this rate we could have a very nice fly-in at Woburn

Here's one of Lucas' paints:ernae:

I've tarted up all the interiors quite a lot, just for personal taste.

Roger:

Could you show a pic or describe the results of "tarting" up the interior?

I'm enjoying the little plane and can't wait to see more repaints. But I'd like the interior modified a little also.

Fair enough, but here's my "Jason", and my line is that it represents the aircraft when Amy took delivery and before it was converted!

Ok. I felt the interior grey-green could do with being quite a lot darker and I preferred a darker wood panel (I googled for polished Walnut texture but couldn't find any freeware), oh and I preferred a nice leather under the wind shield. Nice thing is that what you do in vc panel shows up in spot too...

What an absolute stunner! I just downloaded this aircraft and took it for a few circuits around Old Warden aerodrome, love the handling, love the model, and love the VC! :applause::Banane09:

Roger:

Thanks for the interior pic. Very nice. How did you do away with the photo. I'm new at this and while I can change the color of the leather and the walnut if I want, I can't figure a way to just not have the photo. I have replaced it with another photo, but I'd rather not have it at all. Can you help?

Barry
