It does indeed mean 'kite crazy' and comes from the time when my wife and I used to build large kites (up to 100 sq ft or more) and we earned an international reputation for the designs we came up with. It also fitted very well when I started flying combat flight simulators especially the Battle of Britain II sim as the RAF pilots used to call their aircraft kites so 'kite crazy' fitted with my love of RAF WWII aircraft too.
EDIT: Amazingly the old Club website is still active (although it hasn't been updated since 2005) and has lots of pages of kite related stuff.
