Hooligan Deuce

Lovely things happening to a bird that has been sitting idly in my hangar for a long time! Great stuff!

First the improvements to the flight model, then the HH repaint and now another one in the pipeline!

:icon29::icon29::icon29: to all of the contributors!

While Jens-Ole's away I thought I'd take the Deuce out for a spin and have a go at the NASA bird. Incomplete but coming along nicely.

That is SUPERB!! Man - this is "dream come true" material.

I usually fly with wing tanks - not knowing how / to what the textures are mapped at the moment - but hoping that using the "tank" mdl will enable at least a regular metal tank texture? Not envisioning any fancy themed tank textures like was seen on some 102s .... just some tank of some sort would be nice.

Anyway - so outstanding Dave - looking really nice.

Best regards,

DL

Awesome paints gents, however in some of the ANG and NASA paints the pilots wore the old orange flight suits. Later on they went to the green bags/1972 and later. Just a thought....

Thanks usafvet, I'll look into changing the colour of the flightsuit before I publish.

BTW has anyone else had trouble with the burner? I've had to add a 'logo' gauge to the vc panel file to get it to work.

DaveQ

Thanks for the feedback!

I have seen a lot of orange flightsuits for the 50-60s, but seldom in the ang as they got the 102 in the mid 65's. So at least for my north dakota and minnesota ang I believe the green will work fine.

what version are you using? In the tweaks I uploaded to the library last week, this coding is included, see panel.cfg :

[Vcockpit01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=512,512
visible=1
pixel_size=512,512
texture=$dummy_t

gauge00=FSX_F102_Gauges!SYSTEM_Onboard, 0,0,10,10
gauge01=FSX_F102_Gauges!Weapons Controller, 0,0,10,10
gauge02=FSX_F102_Gauges!Afterburner_RPM_Switch, 1,1,10,10
gauge03=FSX_F102_Gauges!Burner_Logo, 1,1,10,10
gauge04=FSX_F102_Gauges!Jetsmoke, 1,1,10,10
gauge05=FSX_F102_Gauges!Dragchute, 0,0,10,10
gauge06=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_gear, 10,10,10,10
gauge07=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_taxi_gear 10,10,10,10

Note that the burner should only kick in when the throttle is over 90% and engine RPM is over 97% (CN1)

Guys,

I was in the VT ANG's 158th FG, 134th FIS from 1966 to 1972 during the time that we received and flew the F/TF-102A's and our pilots had both the orange and green flight suits, but seemed to much much prefer the green ones, especially when not flying. I think they might have felt quite conspicuous in the orange ones when hanging around base ops. :icon_lol:

PS: If you look at my Avatar to the left you will notice that I am wearing an orange flight suit.

Dave,

A small correction on the NASA paint: I believe (not sure, but fairly sure) that the "JF-286" number on the forward air intake is a "Park Code" issued at Davis-Monthan, and would not have been present on the bird whilst operational (notice that on the flying pics, it's not present, only on the storage pics).

Not being an expert on USAF and/or D-M storage protocols, I might ask someone more educated on the matter to comment - but just a headsup ...

Again - looks awesome so far.

BTW - if an orange (or pale blue) is an option for flight suits, that would be awesome.

You're right about the storage number Daniel.

Here shots of the F-102A when stored at Davis-Monthan:

About the orange flightsuits, they were standard issue for ADC pilots during the 60's/70's.

Cheers,
Hank

Sorry Henk, my mistake and thanks for the correction. I copied over the relevant bits but not the panel folder. I just find it easier that way.

DL - I knew the 4FJ286 was the AMARC code but hadn't twigged the photo was after going into storage. Another conundrum is which Deuce was it? The photos purport to be of either 56-0996 or 998. Joe Baugher gives a different AMARC code for 996 but 998 isn't mentioned. I've numbered it 998 in the data block.

Dave,

I think it was 56-998.

Here is the history of 56-996 and 56-998 as listed in the Convair F-102A/TF-102A Delta Dagger section of the Forgotten Jets website ( http://www.millionmonkeytheater.com/F-102A.html ):

F-102A 56-996
*2nd FIS.
*86th FIS.
*32nd FIS.
*12/2/1964: Returned to the USA in "Operation Hardway II".
*Washington ANG 116th FIS.
*Idaho ANG 190th FIS.
*California Air National Guard?
*Montana ANG 186th FIS.
*2/24/1974: To storage at the AMARC bone yard.
*4/1981: Converted to PQM-102B as "828".

F-102A 56-998
*325th FIS.
*323rd FIS.
*47th FIS.
*Hawaii ANG 199th FIS (154th FG).
*Arizona ANG 152nd FIS.
*Connecticut ANG 118th FIS.
*South Carolina ANG 157th FIS?
*6/1970: Bailed to NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, OH for tests as "N617NA" and also as "N637NA".
*6/1974: To storage at the AMARC bone yard.
*1/1977: Salvaged.

Thanks a million Mike. A brilliant website!!

Dave,

You are welcome. I'm glad that you found that website helpful. In my youth I spent 6 years working closely with F/TF-102A's and their pilots, so needless to say it is my favorite fighter. As indicated in my avatar I actually got to ride in and actually fly the TF-102A along with the T-33A on occasion.

.....and you appear to be wearing what looks suspiciously like an orange flight suit, LOL!! Like this one in fact...

Ditched the AMARC number and will upload later. And there will be plain tanks for those who want them.

DaveQ

Edit - now uploaded here and Flightsim.com

Thanks Dave!!

Just downloaded it - had a 2 min flight before making dinner for the kids. It is truly awesome. Thanks for taking this on, and to all the mods on this thread for their great tweaks. No dust going to get collected on this bird for a long time, now ... :)

Reminds me...

....wish we had a "tub" to go along with the -A....but I recognize the market would not be huge!

To be honest..there is a buzz inside RAZBAM to make me do a F-102 Redux package that would include a "tub", of course, it would be complete new package, but i´m really busy! we´ll see

Kent,

I agree totally. Having flown a "Tub" years ago I'd love to see a flyable version for FSX also, but doubt that one will ever become available. :frown:
