How did you get the props to look right Roger? I use the FSX Add-On Converter and they still have a funky thick black wash and cloud and such appear through them. Did you make or substitute a new propspin?

What was that? It looked like someone went crazy with a D-18. It's got a cannon in the nose, the recoil of which, would drop the Beech in its tracks.

I'm using it in Dx9 Caz so I didn't use the converter. I stopped using Dx10 when it became clear that there wouldn't be an FsXI.

The trick was to darken the prop alpha to very transparent and for the machine guns (which had a black alpha and so were totally transparent) I made the alpha from the image and upped the contrast so the holes were black and barrel was white. Looks pretty good I think.

I did my own props for FSX and will try Roger's idea for the guns. This thing is a real keeper. Many thanks to all involved.:ernae::ernae:

Helldiver I am old enough to have a friend that crewed on a B-25J? which had a nose mounted 75mm recoiless cannon. He said it didn't bother the flight characteristis that much, but, the plane felt like it had a big cough every time the gun fired!

Oh, I know all about the B-25s. We had them in the Navy. They were built rugged and had the horse power to take a cannon in the nose.
But hang one on a Beech D-18 is something else. That's a little, tiny, airplane. Like hanging a couple of .50s in the wings of a J-3.
Them guys at Wichita must have sold the government a bill of goods.

Actually, the three of them keep me on a lead, I'm the one that gets side tracked! :d

I think I am going to convert all to DDS and make my own propspin too Paul. Might double the texture size for one, now that I have the paint kit (thanks Milton) and see what it looks like in FSX. It did absolute wonders to LilSki's Champs, eh Pointy31?

Funny Helldiver. The Beechcraft 28 Destroyer was actually larger than the B25, max weight up to 36000 lbs, and faster than the borrowed new Mustang that was used for speed calibration.

It was the most advanced ground attack aircraft of its time, but too late to be of use in the EU and not necessary in the PTO.

In AAF tests, it got excellent marks in all phases of flight, maintenance, and design. It had STOL capabilities, long range, and kick a$$ speed.

Even at its 24,000 lb empty weight, it was built tough and safe. Extra wing spar support was designed in to accommodate the automatic 75mm cannon around which (and for which) it was built.

Well Milton,that one escaped me. No mention of it was made in the airplane magazines at the time. It must have been a real spook project. But like the Atom Bomb there was a lot we were not told.
 
She works just fine in FSX (thanks for the texture files, Roger!) Maybe a bit of a frame rate hog, but that seems characteristic of FS9 ports, but it's not too bad at all. And she sure is pretty!
 
My frames with the Grizzly in FsX are better than many FsX natives. I'm locked to 35 and I'm getting 29 average.
 
PRB,

Did you have your lights on in that approach shot. The cockpit should be a little better lit, but FSX may be different in taht regard or the vc light needs to be moved for you.

We decided not to backlight the gauges since they weren't so you must rely on the vc_light in the lights section to give you a little extra daytime light. FSX may have other capabilities available to you outside of model construction, I don't know.

I acually remember turning the lights off as I took off for that flight. The red strobe was reflecting into the cockpit and I just turned them all off. I noticed how dark that cockpit shot looked after I posted it. It wasn't that dark when I was flying!
