The Chief's clubs were killed off long ago. NAS Whidbey Island's CPO club, I think, is still there though.

I too feel your pain jmig....I can actually remember the NCO clubs alive & kicking when I joined....However, as the military began its effort to de-glamourize alcohol, an unfortunate side effect of this was the demise of on base O'Clubs & NCO Clubs....No one wants to have a drink at the club anymore when security forces are just across the street....

Many bases have all-ranks clubs in an effort to stay afloat.....

I have no problem with de-glamorization of alcohol but the military has taken it to extremes. Also, excessive political correctness has made senior enlisted and officers afraid to interact socially with junior troops under any circumstances, for fear of being accused of fraternization. Back in the old days in the Navy you'd get together at your favorite hangouts in Yokosuka, Hong Kong, Naples or wherever and drink a few with your leading Petty Officers and Chiefs and some of the officers as well. Now the young kids go out and get in trouble because there's no senior people present to keep them in check. At least with clubs available on base, if somebody does drink too much they can walk/stagger/crawl back to their ship or barracks. It's a dangerous trip home if you're wasted in some strip club 45 minutes down the Interstate.

Before I retired, it got to where you'd have to have a command substance abuse counselor in attendance at ship's parties. That led to some abuse of power right there.
