Which branch of the Armed Forces are you in? Canadian Armed Forces Navy
Why did you join the forces? I was out of a job and one of my younger brother was already in the CAF Navy. Seeing the world without having to carry a pack-sack seemed to be a good idea at the time.
Were you in any wars? No, thanks to the sacrifices of others before me.
Were you wounded? Busted my left knee jogging in unbroken army boots on pavement every morning. It still hurts.
How long were you enlisted? 3 months, it was an Officer Cadet Training program with an 80% failure rate. I was honorably discharged.
What was your scariest moment? During an exercise, we were trekking at night in the rocky mountains in a pitch black forest. I could barely see the back of the guy one foot in front of me. Our lead man, trying to feel the ground under his feet, hanged himself to a dead tree trunk without touching the bottom of what we presumed to be a shallow ditch. We had to turn back and take a more secure road. Looking at our map next morning, the "ditch" turned-out to be a 300 feet cliff.
What was your proudest moment? Scoring a perfect 100% on a written test. The first and only 100% ever scored! And I did all that at 3 in the morning with a pen , a sheet of paper and a flashlight (it was curfew) on the corner of my side table.
Good luck with your project, it was fun reminiscing the longest 3 months of my life.

im not military..but Hanah,,,,this is a GREAT thread,thanks to you and your teacher...and classmates and thanks to all of our fellow SOH'ers who are VETS of all armed forces of the world..thank you all....very infomitave thread this one...i myself was to busy fighting wildfires when i was 18...felt i couldnt be fused with the military...let me tell you...it was a mistake...i wish now id have atleast done one stint .

Why did you join the army? It seemed a good idea at that moment and I never regretted it.
Were you in any wars? No, peace keeping with the UN in Libanon was the only mission the Netherlands were involved in at that moment. But the Air Force didn't play any role in it.
Were you wounded? No.

What was your proudest moment? It may sound strange, but marching through The Hague and standing as ceremonial guard at the Royal Noordeinde palace on the day the Dutch Queen reveals the (financial) plans from the government (Prinsjesdag). It was a beautiful sight and I was proud to be part of it. My old instructor was allowed to carry the banner from the RNAF, which is considered to be a great honour. He was about to retire and I can still remember the tears in his eyes when they played the Dutch national anthem.

Mr. Jmig with USAF that stands for United States Air Force. I do not want to be scared on my first solo flight.

Mr. CutisP40 I have an Uncle Sam but I don't think he wants to pay for my college. Desert Storm that must be in the dessert. My Mom said it was scary.
Mr. Bjoern - NATO - my teacher said it has 28 independent member countries and one is the US of A. Conscription a compulsory enrollment in the old days. It looked like you enjoyed it when you became a real soldier. and that you are smarter than others because you got your promotion and certificate in ten minutes instead of four. zTen minutes?
Mr. PRB - US Navy The Gulf War in 1991. I was not born yet. I hope no one was hurt in that crash. My Dad met my Mom in January of 1992.

Thank you all for helping. I salute each and everyone of you and after I typed all these I noticed the red underlined words that means I misspelled it. I am onluy nine years old and I try to type really accurately but everyone makes mistakes and just excuse my typing. What if I wrote it handwritten, My Mom always says, Ay Nahku.
