I need help on my homework. PLEASE.

Hannah

You are such an amazing young lady. Your maturity and poise are traits that many on this site admire in you. You are truly a testament to the great parenting/teaching that your mother is giving you. You will grow up to be one amazing person. Good luck on your assignment.

I was not in the military, so I can not help you with your assignment. Sorry.

To those who have answered Hannah's questions...'

Thank you all for the many years of service, dedication and commitment you have all shown in serving your country (which ever one it happens to be). Men and women who stand at the ready to defend their home land, their fellow citizens are to be commended for what they do. I am proud to know each and every one of you...if only through this forum....and would love to meet each and everyone of you face to face so I could shake your hands and thank you in person. God bless you all!

Tim

You couldn't have said it any better, and I second the sentiments, Thank You All, Gentlemen!

Dangit - I'm too late!
Good luck with your assignment Little Cha Cha! :jump:

Mr. Panther, It is not too late, I will submit my homework to class on Thursday. Then we will discuss this to class even after Thursday in honor of our Veterans and Armed Forces friends and family. So you can keep posting. The whole November month is four our soldiers' month. Thank you people. :wavey:

Since you are taking, little ChaCha, contributions from non-American armies as well...
---------------------
I have 7 questions:

Which branch of the Armed Forces are you in? Canadian Armed Forces Navy

Why did you join the forces? I was out of a job and one of my younger brother was already in the CAF Navy. Seeing the world without having to carry a pack-sack seemed to be a good idea at the time.

Were you in any wars? No, thanks to the sacrifices of others before me.

Were you wounded? Busted my left knee jogging in unbroken army boots on pavement every morning. It still hurts.

How long were you enlisted? 3 months, it was an Officer Cadet Training program with an 80% failure rate. I was honorably discharged.

What was your scariest moment? During an exercise, we were trekking at night in the rocky mountains in a pitch black forest. I could barely see the back of the guy one foot in front of me. Our lead man, trying to feel the ground under his feet, hanged himself to a dead tree trunk without touching the bottom of what we presumed to be a shallow ditch. We had to turn back and take a more secure road. Looking at our map next morning, the "ditch" turned-out to be a 300 feet cliff.

What was your proudest moment? Scoring a perfect 100% on a written test. The first and only 100% ever scored! And I did all that at 3 in the morning with a pen , a sheet of paper and a flashlight (it was curfew) on the corner of my side table.

Good luck with your project, it was fun reminiscing the longest 3 months of my life.:wavey:

Which branch of the Armed Forces are you in? US Army Airborne

Why did you join the army? Low draft number so I knew I was going

Were you in any wars? Vietnam 1968-70

Were you wounded? only in my soul-lost a lot of friends...but Jesus put it all back together

How long were you enlisted? Three years

What was your scariest moment? There were several...I think surprise attacks by snipers in the compound-you aren't expecting it. In combat you know it's gonna be bad even if you win the day but there is so much going on around you to keep you thinking and busy. I can't say any more about this Hannah...I'm sorry.

What was your proudest moment? Years later seeing the Vietnam memorial with my friends name displayed and seeing people honor them.

You are very mature for your age sweetie! I'm very proud of you.

Which branch of the Armed Forces are you in? Royal Dutch Air Force

Why did you join the army? It seemed a good idea at that moment and I never regretted it.

Were you in any wars? No, peace keeping with the UN in Libanon was the only mission the Netherlands were involved in at that moment. But the Air Force didn't play any role in it.

Were you wounded? No.

How long were you enlisted? 6 years

What was your scariest moment? Low flying in an Alloutte III with a pilot called Haasnoot! It is nice to tell about it now, but it was definitely scary at the moment ;). When they American diplomats were taken hostage in Teheran and the British went to the Falklands, I was afraid these events would escalate.

What was your proudest moment? It may sound strange, but marching through The Hague and standing as ceremonial guard at the Royal Noordeinde palace on the day the Dutch Queen reveals the (financial) plans from the government (Prinsjesdag). It was a beautiful sight and I was proud to be part of it. My old instructor was allowed to carry the banner from the RNAF, which is considered to be a great honour. He was about to retire and I can still remember the tears in his eyes when they played the Dutch national anthem.

As Daveroo already said, your question learns us a lot about fellow SOH members (and in this case I have learned something about myself as well ;)) .

Little Cha Cha,
I hope your project is the best! :jump:

Were you in any wars? Viet Nam 1970-1971

Were you wounded? No

How long were you enlisted? 10 years

What was your scariest moment? Unidentified sounds behind me on guard duty (you kinda had to be there)

What was your proudest moment? Promotion to Staff Sergeant ahead of my peers.

C'était un plaisir, Little Chacha.

You do have a very good sense of humor.

But if you want to put your mom in receivership, do make the corrections when the red underlines appear...:kilroy:

If you don't know what "receivership" means, ask your mom, and don't be surprised if she laugh!

Bonne nuit!

very nice reply Hannah....but im not sure of what your teacher thought of the thing....about changing your avatar(pic to the left) go to settings and then look for changing "avatar" and just upload a new JPG file from your computer

Mr. Bjoern - NATO - my teacher said it has 28 independent member countries and one is the US of A.

Your teacher is correct. :)

Conscription a compulsory enrollment in the old days.

Not necessarily. It still exists in Germany, but is scheduled for abolishment (to save €s).

and that you are smarter than others because you got your promotion and certificate in ten minutes instead of four. zTen minutes?

Ten minutes instead of four hours. ;)

And no, I wasn't smarter. I was just about 350 miles away when the ceremony took place. :d

Thanks everyone....

Hannah got an A++ on her homework.

Thanks again, everyone.
You are the champions!
