Identify This Gauge...Please!

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
I am working on a 2D and VC gauge set up for the freeware Alphasim RA-5C. On the VC panel, with its painted on gauges, there is a gauge that I can not identify. I know I have seen it on other planes...but I can not remember what the gauge is called, nor do I know what it is used for. In the attached image, it is the gauge in the middle of the panel, below the Attitude Indicator.

Hi Obio

Looks to me like an Horizontal Situation Indicator (Mixture of gyro compass, ADF, VOR and DME all together) and it also seem to have a flag for ground speed. I have seen it in a number of aircraft but it is allways digital, I do not think that was available when the Vigilantes were flying, but then again, I can be wrong

Saludos

it is the
A7.HSI
it came with the
DSB A-7 Corsair II

at least, that's where I got it
if you want it,
let me know and I'll send it to you

A HSI is also available in some of the default FS9 aircraft. Try looking at the Baron, Mooney or King Air panels. I use the Mooney HSI on all my RTWR race panels in FS9.

Yep, Horizontal Situation Indicator and it's a very handy gauge to have onboard.

Gents,

Thanks for the answers....now that I know what it is, I was able to incorporate it into the RA-5C panel config.

Now....just how does one use this particular gauge....what does it do....what's it for? I have never used ILS, so am clueless. I am a vintage aircraft flier for the most part and tend to fly by the seat of my pants using just the basic vintage gauges (with a little help from the GPS screen with my navigation).

Tim, it's worth the time (and cringe factor from the jokes) to run through a few of the lessons in-sim. The VOR nav under Private Pilot and VOR and ILS approaches under the Instrument section will give you the basics of how the stuff works. The gauges may look different, but the info they give is the same.

Hi,

ILS ?
