IE-7 problem?

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
I know, I know, don't use IE etc. I use FF and Op too, but just hear this out. As I was getting notices that IE-6 was being supported less and less I replaced it with IE-7. Well now my real weather is stuck with whatever it was about the time of the switch. Is there a CFG edit involved here? I'm about to roll back to IE-6 to see if that was the problem. I suppose there might have been an incomplete un-install fragment. If so I might kill it with REVO and put IE-7 back.
I also DLd METARS or whatever some time ago but found the install directions hopelessly vague. I'd give it another shot if they were clearer. Everyone here seems to like it.
Any ideas?

Flying in the static weather world..

There was a post about the weather getting stuck in the Outhouse recently and it had something to do with Cached files.

Clear out your cookies and temporary internet files and see what happens.

Then start searching the forums here somebody posted a link to a fix.

I remembered a post about this too but only found one espousing the virtues of add-on weather software. I did the things you mentioned which was why I was wondering if there was a version 6 remnant causing the problem or if there is a version 7 setting I need to address.
I think I'm going back to version 6 first and go from there.

Well it seems to be working again but I don't know which thing I did fixed it. I had been clearing the cookies and stuff from the beginning but also went looking for other locations for data storage. I used REVO to un-install IE7 and, as I have XP, checked other peoples directories for temporary internet files and deleted a few stragglers. REVO has worked well before so I was puzzled about these files. But when I rebooted, IE6 was up and running. I had replaced 6 with 7 and thought 6 was removed in the process. Is it typical for the older one to remain? Was version 6 seeping through to cause the original problem? If I put 7 back, this time I will blow out 6 first.
I know this is a bit long but half the fun of SOH is learning about computers. Will give it a good checkout later but seems to be working. Thanks for the help.

Go to Microsoft and down load IE7 and IE8. Really IE8 was not a problem and has been out long enough that your move should be to IE8.

IE8 Download Page

IE7 Download Page

Then blow out IE6.

Even with IE8 loaded in my Windows folder there are two hidden folders one named IE7 and one name IE8. I am going to assume if I blow out IE8 IE7 would still be installed but I have never tried to do it.

Install IE7 or IE8 you should not have any problems.

So far so good. I blew out all of IE6 REVO could find, and installed IE8. Weather loads properly and I can live with IE for the time being. Any one else having these problems this path should fix it.
