Terry,..........I had the same situation about a month ago. I kept being reminded of updating to IE8. I was using IE6. So I updated to IE8. No problems so far.

IMHO, IExplorer is something you wanna get rid off asap. It is slow, picks up all kinds of filth, in short it is a menace to any computer.
Firefox on the other hand is lightning fast, stable and a lot better on security. Also there's quite a few really cool plugins for it with which you can block adds (and thus improve your surfing speed), and so forth.
You can get it at http://www.mozilla.org. You will NOT be dissapointed!

Firefox is great yes, but some things are not accessible using it. For instance, I tried to open Google Earth and it won't let me use Firefox. It insists I use IE else it won't direct me to it's server. I deleted IE some time ago. So unless I find a way, a major scenery building reference is gone.

Doug, I've used FF for a couple of years and never had a problem with GE.. in GE if I click a weblink it opens the page in Firefox; if I go to earth.google.com in Firefox it happily takes me to the GE homepage
-- or are you trying to run a .kml link from inside FF? that I haven't tried lately.
I got the Microsoft push to IE8 on Tuesday and just said No.

I'm using IE7 with no issues at all. Norton and common sense browsing keep the nasty stuff at bay.

So am I, I just wondered if there were any advantage to an upgrade to 8.
As for Firefox, I have heard great things about it but I don't want two browsers and IE can't be removed.

I was using IE6, then switched to IE7 and finally I have installed IE8.
I used to get a lot of security problems with IE6, but that was corrected y the SP2 for WinXP. Never had a security problem anymore since that. IE6 still had some functionnality flaws from time to time, however.
IE7 was great, providing anything I needed.
IE8 is just like IE7, but with even more functionnalities. So far I am very satisfied with it. I had only one problem though: displaying the Flightsimworld.com forums will cause a freeze of the window. I have to kill IE8 and restart it because it will not respond anymore. Certainly a script problem or something like that...

I am going to try IE8. IE7 was better then 6 but it had some stability problems, hope this one is better.
On my old PC I have used Firefox for a while, it seemed a bit faster and had some features I liked. When I got my new pc I kept IE on it because by then most features that I liked about Firefox were already added IE aswell. Like the tabbed windows etc. The rest of the family was not so pleased with Firefox because for a novice user that is used to IE it is not easy to get used to the different interface. So I put IE back on the old pc that my parents now use. Then I discovered that IE is so built in to Windows that you cant fully uninstall it. Only the links had disappeared but everything stays. When I put IE back on my old PC the install only took seconds because everything was still there.
So Firefox is nice but you can just as well keep IE because everyone is used to that browser and you cant fully uninstall it anyway. Besides MS looks closely at Firefox and copies the usefull features so you get the same just a bit later.

Now I updated to IE8 I finally now where my stability problems came from. It is a utility that came with my HP printer called HP web print smart. IE8 immediatly warns that you must update, till then it runs with all plugins disabled. For some reaseon HP auto update does not warn about new versions of this utility. Maybe some of you have the same problem.
It sure takes HP a lot of time to make their drivers up to date. Their drivers also caused stability problems with Office 2007 till a few months ago.

I haven't used IE since Firefox first came out and I've found no reason to go back anymore. True that IE can't be completely uninstalled, but who cares, it's not like it's taking up a ton of disk space and once you set Firefox as the default browser IE is basically gone. As for Google Earth. . .never have had any problems running that at all so Fnerg, not sure why you can't.
According to the IE8 page, there's a Compatability button by the Refresh. I know one or two pages that don't work well with EI7, so once I get the time to burn a Ghost image of my current setup, I'll check them with IE8 and see what happens there.
IE8 won't let me sort and move my "Favorites." I could drag them any place in IE7. Maybe I am missing something here, but I don't think that IE8 is that much of an improvement. Firfiox still works the best and the fastest, especially when you are downloading, Firefox is better.
