If you were to go to war....

Personally, I like the A-4 Skyhawk. Small, maneuverable. Not supersonic, but perhaps if it was outfitted with updated weapons? I don't know.

A-10 - It's heavily armed and can take a good lickin' and still fly home. Besides I like the idea of providing CAS a whole lot more than shooting a target I never see with my eyes or get dizzy dog fighting with. Sorry but I'm a grunt at heart.

TARPS, I like the Tomkitty too. But just going by what it felt like in a back seat (TA-4), the Skyhawk handled like a sports car with wings! Don't get me wrong; the Tomcat AND the Phantom are extremely powerful birds. I just liked the way the Skyhawk maneuvers!!! And yes, here is a plug for RAZBAM's Skyhawk series! They are great!!! Thank you Ron! By the way, I have to give credit to "Simplex" for the screenshots.

Brian,

I used to watch those 'Tank Busters' do runs out at Goldwater Gunnery Range. They would do laps, two at a time, hitting a old tank shell on the ground. You would hear a long 'birp' and then a cloud would form on the ground.. A very large cloud... :d

I hear you slow down in airspeed when running that cannon.

F-14D Super Tomcat.....*meow with a bang!* :mixedsmi:

Fast, lots of loiter time over target, multi-mission capable and it looks so darn good !

NC, if my mission were just bombing I'd go with the A-4. We had them aboard USS Coral Sea in 1968 and it was amazing to see the bomb loads those little planes were able to carry.

Ju-88, Bomber, anti-shipping, day heavy fighter, night fighter, anti-armor... shoot even guided bomb!

I go along with the A-10 and A1-E guys. There's more to combat than going like hell. You want to do as much damage to the enemy as possible. Merely shooting down an enemy airplane or two does little to win a war.
Destroying a bridge, a power station, a bunch of tanks, a fuel storage or an ammunition dump does a hell of a lot more.
The A-4 carries a lot of bombs but no where near as much as an A!-E or an A-10. Plus the A-10's Gatling gun, with it's spent Uranium ammo, is simply devastating. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it. Spent Uranium is pyrophoric. It burns intensely anything it hits.
