Veeerrrry slow loading pages. I sit and stare at "Waiting for sim-outhouse.com" for almost a minute.

Is anyone else having this problem?

yes, that is a problem. Seems to be something with server port availiblity or something like that. I can get it to load just as fast as normal if I refresh the page about three times...

Might be an issue with some node between your PC and the SOH server. I'm baving no particular issue with SOH, but for the last couple of days I get a page not found on about every 4th or 5th click, regardless of what website I'm on. A quick refresh to get the page re-sent usually gets me back in where I need to be.

Yep. Count me in on the slow train to "Page Not Found"!

Once I do get past the time-out page, my sytem shows the forum home page as a plain white background with all the links as plain text without the button icons seemingly scattered all over the page.

Once I allow the page above to completely load I do a refresh and after the next long wait I get the normal blue default background with everything in its place. The Christmas motif will not load at all without locking up the screen.

That's on my home PC - a pretty fast one even if I say so myself. On my work PC I can get the Christmas background but it's just slow without the screen freezes.

No other similar issues with any other websites I have visited, fast loads, quick page turns, everything the way I would expect.

Please note - This is not a COMPLAINT. It is just my answer to the question posted and a simple statement of what my current experience is. I am envious of those who can experience the Christmas decorations without delay!

Merry Christmas,

Duckie :wavey:

The plain white page with no theme or formatting means that you're getting the main html content file but not the "cascading style sheet." It could be any number of things. I'll post this over on the Staff page so Ickie can look into it.

I just removed the snow is it faster?

Hey Tom and Ickie, thanks for taking a look. :salute: Page loading on my work PC seems to be pretty close to "normal" on this session. Thanks.

Now hopefully it has improved on the home connection. That's the one that was getting the "plain white wrapper" last night.

Cheers,

Steve

I am just a few miles from Hawkeye52 and have not had any issues earlier today.

Three different connections 2 locations are DSL on Bellsouth and my Android phone. No problems on either.

The first snow was faster but the page load times were fine. This snow seems to be slower I need to check page load times.

***Edit

Checked and page load times are fast no problems here.

I am curious what kind of connections the others have.

the first snow was an old JS script,
the new snow is brand new 2011 js module/plugin

I just added this to the JS,

By default, mobile phones are excluded from the snow effect to be nice to their CPUs (and batteries), but you can set snowStorm.excludeMobile = false; to enable Snowstorm on devices like the iPhone, iPad and Android cell phones etc.

I only see the snow on the Xmas theme which is fine as I prefer the classic blue/white one anyway. :icon_lol:

I am on Comcast (cable).
I noticed the slowdown maybe 3 days ago, just before the Christmas background was installed. It takes at least a minute for a page to load, and sometimes I get the "plain white wrapper" effect. Don't have any problem on other sites I visit.

Tom: if it is a node 'tween SOH and me, can Comcast do anything?

To check and see if it is the winter theme scroll down the page to the quick style chooser. Change the format back to the blue theme.

Then after the page reloads press F5 to force a reload and complete refresh of the page.

If you are still slow it must be your ISP but why I would not know.

Comcast Highspeed(?) Internet.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as H52. This is the first time I've been able to fully load a page tonight on the SOH and it doesn't matter which background I select.

Doing some generic internet speed tests the results are about 50% of what they should be for comcast, so DD is probably correct, it is the ISP.
