1. I switched to the default background and there is no noticeable change.

2. I am on the lowest tier of hi-speed internet and have been for almost two years.

3. If it's the ISP, I would expect similar problems with other sites, but it's only on SOH.

4. S'pose I hafta talk to Comcast, but Lord, they are such a PITA!

Tom: if it is a node 'tween SOH and me, can Comcast do anything?

- H52

Only if its one of their nodes, and only if they happen to notice the problem. In all probability, it's somewhere else in the hundreds of boxes that pass data from point A to point B. A typical trip for a data frame is usually less than that though. If you want to know how data is getting from your PC to the SOH server, open up a Command (DOS) window and type tracert www.sim-outhouse.com. Be patient - it may take a minute or so. There's proobably only one hop that passes through your ISP's own equipment.

Just hung up with Comcast. Long story short: all is fine with Comcast so it must be SOH's problem.

"But folk with Comcast are having the slow-loading problem, while folk with other ISPs do not"

"All is fine with Comcast so it must be SOH's problem"

I told you these people are useless. :a1451:

By the way, the new snow loads fine, but it pegs my CPU and causes a pretty decent lag. I switched back to the default theme and the CPU is back to just over idle.

my computer is running normal, hummm, the server loads are normal, but all i see in the above posts is "COMCAST" lololol
I killed the snow but the thyeme is not the problem.

Same here, very slow loading, incomplete loading, timing out, etc. Comcast high-speed cable internet and Firefox.

Having been in the communication industry for more than a few years now I can tell you. You will never get any provider Bell or cable to admit they are wrong. I have never been told this but their must be a directive to never admit the problem is theirs.

The other side of that coin is they are right now working on trying to find the issue. In a day maybe two days the problem will go away and if you were to ask them they would say "nope we didn't change a thing".

Every Telephone company I have reported problems to has done that to me.

Report the problem, No not our problem must be you, problem suddenly is fixed, We did not change anything.

That is the format.

no one else is complaining except for comcast users.

our christmas thyeme is nothing more than a repaint of the old blue thyeme.

the snow was a java script now removed. I have tried 2 differant snowfalls. (it is known that it is a little hard on your skimpy processors my i7 is running it fine)

firefox and vbulletin, our forum software has had reported problems for over 1 year.

I have tried the latest firefox and latest chrome and the latest version of IE and have seen no problems.

I have viewed this with my apad running linux using dolphin broser with no problems and an android phone.
I have been told by a user using an IPad that the site runns fine.
Henry is running virgin moble with G3 with no issues.
We have 200 - 300 users at any time from around the world saying it is fine, just a single US carrier is having issues.
I spent many hours updating and looking into this yesterday and it isn't broken!

only comcast users are telling me there is something wrong with SOH.

Here's another Comcast customer chiming in - griped yesterday as our entire internet went down for 24 hours - we went to the office in Brunswick to gripe - got back to the house and everything's working (after a fashion) - still takes two or three tries of clicking the same link in my "favorites" list to get SOH to open. Too bad about the snowfall - my machine was handling it fine (once I got a connection to this site!) and we don't get much snow in SE coastal Georgia. Last time something like this happened it was because Comcast was "installing new equipment" on our line. Interesting how it's only SOH that's involved.

Amen, Dave. Had a guy come out to check a no-phone problem here at the house. It was intermittent. He went through and checked all the wiring to the house and announced that I had a short in the wiring inside the house. Not to brag, but I did the wiring, and I knew it was ok. So after much discussion about Ohm's laws, etc., I realized that the modem for the dsl hadn't been looked at, so I suggested it be looked at. Oh, no, that can't be it, sez he as I disconnected it and handed it with its fried connections to him for inspection and then showed him the crystal clear phone connection.

He never said a word by way of "good catch," or "I'll be hornswaggled." He did replace the modem. End of problem. As he left, he said goodbye, and I said I was glad I was able to help.....

Maybe he learned something that day; one can only hope.

Ok, I'm now tryin Internet Exploder. It seems slightly faster, but still slow. This might be a combination of web browser and Comcast.

This is an edit: This message initially posted very quickly, but when I clicked the "edit" button it took a while to load. I'm leaning towards this being a Comcast issue and if it is, they will never own up to it.

I'm on Comcast and frequent many sites incluyding SOH several times throughout the day. I'm still running IE8.

I noticed the slow load times with SOH several days ago. In some instances only parts of the page would load. I often have to refresh the page (F5) in order to read the forum posts. Often it takes more than one mouse click to open a thread or move between the other forums.

Accessing the other SOH forums takes awhile, and it seems really long load time to look at the Warbird's dowloads. This issue seems intermittent. Once I'm in the forum for awhile, accessing the pages returns to normal. I'm not experiencing issues with any other sites, except Facebook which is another issue. :mixedsmi:

Skimming this post, I think Dangerous has the basic rights of it, they will always say it must be the other guy. But on a more conversational note, before I got a faster CPU, I remember past holidays here at SOH as being a bit rough on my PC, and it always seemed to be the nice snow effect and other sites that had screen background animations also caused stuttering and hang ups. My PC at that time was at the edge of acceptable functionality given the onslaught of new bells and whistles site generators assumed everyone would be able to handle. I say that because now the snow animation has no bad effect, at least on my screen and I have not changed my provider (used to be Qwest, now is whoever bought it this month and so far is no worse for the takeover). So although the problem may be elsewhere, PC power is likely involved.

Just my two cents.

I'm affraid in my case I have to disagree with the PC as part of the problem. This was not a gradual degradation of service but from operating very fast ("normal") on Tuesday night to being unable to open the SOH at all on Wednesday night.

No settngs, hardware or software changes at all on my end.

My PC

Intel core i7 950 3.0gHz, ATI Radion HD4870 X2 Extreme 1GB DDR3, 4GB Corsair 16333.

It took me almost an hour of trying before I got this page to open but PC speed had nothing to do with it. I believe it is probably ISP "node" related.

My computer system is pretty speedy, 3.8 GHz Core2Quad, 4GB RAM. I'm not experiencing slow downs on other sites. It's really slow right now and I see there are 309 users online, 130 members, 179 are guests.

Things appear to be getting worse. Now it takes me several tries just to log into the forum. Once in each page takes over 30 seconds to load.

I just tried to post in another thread and it took 3 tries to get the message window and add an animated icon. The problems seem intermittent as at this moment everything seems back to normal.

Looks like I'm going to stay out of here for awhile.

Hi there,

Here in Amsterdam still no problem at all. Everything goes really fast. Not a hitch!

Cheers,
Maarten

This slow down has been affecting me for the last few days now. SOH pages take at least 30 seconds or more to load. It happened literally overnight. No other websites are causing this impact for me, just SOH.

No problems here in Canada but I am not running the winter theme just the plain old blue/white one.
