Iwo Jima Scenery Coming Along

Let me know if you need an external model for static display.. I'll need to confer with Robert, but i think we might be able to accommodate.

Pam, you are on for the P-61 as a static aircraft. That would be great. I have a FS9 model converted but the author is totally unreachable to get permission. This is really getting exciting. I just heard back from Guy Diotte and our B-29 will be ready in two weeks. That is what Mark and I will be shooting for to release.

Thank you for your generous offer to help, what a great community we have.

Thanks Jan, you paint - I download. Let us know when they are done. I check Oz often.

four more Iwo Mustangs now on OZX:

#540 "Kwitcherbitchin", #580 "Shirley III", #582 and #615 "My Bonnie"

Here are a couple of pictures of what the Black Widow could look like. Looking forward to hearing from Pam.

I should be meeting with Robert in an hour or sooner on teamspeak and we'll work it out.. I dont know anything about model conversions and i think Rob has his hands fill so most likely you'll need to do the conversions yourselves, but I'll also research some color plates of the 548th and send along the paint kit. That way you can have the correct planes on the ground.. :)..

Thanks Pam, My converter needs to have the base model as a FS9 type. Any chance of that? Regardless, I am sure we will find a way.

Much appreciated.

Afraid theres no chance for an FS9 model, but i spoke with Rob and with some stipulations such as removing gauges and such, he may be willing to do it.. He's gonna think it over and we'll see how it goes.. Basically, The Widow is massive and complex, and thats his main concern.. Not wanting to get hopes too high ( although mine are already pretty high ) We'll do what we can..
I was thinking also. There were P-38s involved in the recon and initial invasion of Iwo, and I dont know if I remember correctly but wasnt Richard Bong stationed there for a while??

I'm rather amazed at how big that widow is compared to that little feller there.. Great shots :)..

Pam, I think all we will need is the mdl and the textures. No problem removing gauges, aircraft.cfg and air file. Those will not be needed.

Definitely will check out if Bong was there. If so we will be adding a forked tail devil as well.

Textures are no problem.. Robs paintkit is foolproof. Everything youve seen me post I've painted myself and gods know i'm no painter.. its awesome. all the lines in the mesh match up on the paintkit.. A hydrosyphallic monkey could paint this plane..

PS: on the mdl file, i can get you the exterior mdl file (if Rob approves ), but it'll be FSX.. to re-export it as FS9 would take an amazing amount of work including chopping away about half the polly's in it..

Pam, I completely understand about the transition to FS9 for the mdl. With Marks help, I am sure we will be able to make the conversion to static. We will keep our fingers crossed that Rob will give the ok. Thanks for all your efforts and help.

I checked out the use of the P-38 around Iwo Jima, so far all I found was missions to attack the island before and during the invasion. I will keep looking.

Wounded Superfort

Motoyama 1 just about to receive a wounded Superfortress following a raid on Nagoya. She has structural damage to her vertical stabilizer and wing. Crash equipment is rolling.

Loving that you accurately depicted the 50 foot drop off at the end of the runway. Also am loving finally knowing exactly where that airstrip was. In all my years I had never known.. Quite an amazing story behind the marines that fought for that little half acre from hell.. I forget how many days it took them, but it made mount surabachi look like a civilized tea party..

The problem with converting FSX models to static aircraft is usually that all movable parts (e.g. gear, ailerons, doors, etc) collapse to the center of the aircraft when you load them in ModelconverterX.
I'd have to try it with a newer beta version, though, because it can work with the model's keyframe animations and maybe it rearranges the parts properly and it is possible to "freeze" it at a certain keyframe like gears down, and delete all the other ones.
One also could try to down-LOD the aircraft in MCX and delete the high-poly version in the set, to get a simplified model out of it.

I did a static conversion of Itos FS9 P-61 some time ago, which came out excellent, see http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?49001-Photoshop-fun&highlight=p-61+carney , but I'm a little uneasy about releasing it. Not that I don't use it privatly, mind you :icon_lol:.

Cheers,
Mark

I can certainly understand why you would be reluctant. With the events of the past year in japan and Ito-sans health in question, the situation doesnt lend itself to dropping a cordial note to him and getting a reply. It could even be considered rude to do so. No worries.. Robs statement to me regarding his model was that he believes he can do this at some point. Mind you, his plate is full with projects so it may be a little while before he can do it but he says its possible..

Very much appreciated Pam and Rob, If there is anything I can do to help you can count on me.

I also found Ito's P-61 and have converted to static. This is the one you see in the scenery pics. Still, using it in published scenery without permission is out.

Guy Diotte is doing our static B-29 and he says it will be ready in about two weeks, so we have some time.

The B-29 in the picture above is Gnoopey's FS9 version flying as AI. It works fine for that but doesn't change to static worth a darn so I have not tried to contact those guys at all. I am flying Ito's Black Widow as AI and it also works fine. The point is if anyone wants to do this on their own they can find these aircraft and set them up as AI.

Thanks for the help Pam, looking forward to getting the mdl and seeing what we can do. In the meantime I am finding little objects that look good and add realism to Motoyama 1, 2 and 3. Three was not used by the U.S. but I have some bulldozers, tanks and burned out building there.

I will keep everyone interested posted.

Thanks Jan, seen some but not all. The Widow on the ground was one trying to land in the fog, if this aircraft is the same I've seen in another picture. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing! Right? As Pam says the Black Widow makes the Stangs looks a little small. Out of town for a couple of days, back on Friday.
