KC Flight Shop Republic RC-3 SeaBee Now Released! (Payware)

Thank you Ben Dean.

Nice shots, Roger.

Hey, has anyone else noticed that the SeaBee doesn't leave a wake in the water. The spray effect works fine, but for me there's no wake. It looks a little odd. There is a wake entry in the effects section of the aircraft.cfg. Anyone have a fix?

Found the cause. I went in to turn off DX10 preview and found that I had it off. Turned it on and the problem went away. Sorry for the false symptoms. Great fun, this aircraft!

I had the same problem with the Seabee and the same fix worked, i.e., DX9=ghosting: DX10=no ghosting, from which I concluded that I should always use the DX10 preview with this aircraft.

Then I downloaded Orbx's new freeware airport CEJ4 and discovered some texture issues there. Working these in conjunction with the Orbx support forum led me to the information that DX9 is required for that scenery and the DX10 Preview mode causes texture issues. The scenery issues are not catastrophic but they are noticeable if you care to look. I suspect the same thing is true for many of the other Orbx sceneries as well - although to be honest, I have not verified this. Given that Orbx makes many of the sceneries where one might like to take the Seabee, all I can say is "Help, designers! You guys are setting up problems for us... Please factor in the targeted environment when designing and testing your aircraft".

I did all my testing exclusivly in OrbX, but in DX10 mode. I did not notice any texture problems with the OrbX PNW or OrbX Concrete. I will have a look at the Seabee in DX9 and see if I can reproduce the ghosting. Can you please submit a screenshot of this to our support forum?

Kevin,

I will do that IF I CAN REPRODUCE IT MYSELF - and so far, I haven't been able to - maybe, just maybe, DX9 vs DX10 was not the problem after all. It went away after I ticked the DX10 Preview but there might have been something else as well. I removed the DX10 Preview check after hearing from Orbx but the ghosting with the Seabee did not return. I do know that about the same time I had the ghosting problem, I also experienced some Java problems which I took care of so perhaps my issue was my own unique problem. In any event, should I encounter this ghosting problem again, I will be sure to get a screenshot and I will post it over on your forum. In the meantime, I would say your team is off the hook - don't waste any more time on it. I will continue to fly this fine airplane in DX9 mode and will continue to enjoy it. Thank you again for creating it.

As I said, my issue with Orbx and DX10 was at the new CEJ4 freeware airport release. The grass textures there appeared very blocky and at least one AI airplane was not textured at all. Their tech people told me the problems were caused by the DX10 Preview mode and sure enough, when I unchecked that, my problems with CEJ4 disappeared. Since most of their products are done by various developer teams, I suspect the difficulty with DX10 vs DX9 may vary from airport to airport.

Thank you for the update. If it happens, feel free to take screenshots and report it. With the shier ammount of differant add-on's people can have in there FSX, its really hard to keep them all playing nice togeather.

Now that things have had some time to settle and calm down with the release, im starting to gather a list of bugs to fix, and also a list of possible features for the first service pack.

If your experiencing a bug, or can think of a possible feature would would like implamented into the KCFS Seabee, please stop by our support forum and feel free to open a thread on it! Im really eager to hear what the customers have to say!

Kevin

Sponsons dont generally drag in the water on any seaplanes. They are just there to prevent it from tipping over. You can see in this photo, that even though one side is dipping in, the other side has a good foot of air between the sponson and the water.

Thanks for the information! Been away for a while, just saw your reply.

Just an update on what I was calling "ghosting" which for me at least was that the aircraft exterior textures turned transparent in the spot view.

Sometime later I ran into the same problem again - but this time it got much worse and it happened with a completely different aircraft and another scenery completely so it obviously wasn't anything specifically associated with the Seabee. This later time, if I used fsx's map display feature, it worked okay but then when I tried to resume flying afterward, all my displayed scenery textures were hosed and I had to abort the flight. That did it. I consulted with my computer provider (Jetline Systems - great guys), and they came up with a couple of changes that did wonders in preventing this from happening. It turns out that the problem was related to the texture display load and memory usage in the computer.

The first involved tweaks to the fsx.cfg file identified in an article by Mathias Koch at Aerosoft. See http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/34024-flight-sim-labs-ltd-fsx-texture-fix-utility/

The second change was a small utility patch to fsx itself that allows 64-bit systems to use a full 4-GB of memory for a given application - in my case, fsx.

So far, knock on wood, I have not had a repeat of the problem.

Glad you got it sorted and,if you would be so kind, could you provide more info on the 64-bit patch for FSX? Thanks

While this thread is up there was an issue with some 4 % of Seabee owners where there was an effect of water spray visible if the anchor was deployed by engaging the parking brake on water , this is something I have not been able to pin down to a root cause or duplicate , more information on graphics cards and settings is required , its only when motion is detected that the display is visible on my cherry install production machine, wind , dx setting and water effect levels do not seem to be at fault .

<o:p></o:p>
The idea was floated to add a female passenger , and as a public service she shall remain silent , additionally a `Full Metal Jacket `model will be added with the materials arranged to produce polished aluminum , get your paint kits ready.

If you have an idea that will float your boat nows the time to let me know as there is an update being prepared to the release .

I'm one of the lucky 4% that gets the "anchor fountain" effect. (I also get no wake effect when in motion; but that's already been mentioned.) If it helps, here are my system specs and settings:
Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93 GHz
4.00 GB RAM
Win 7 64 Professional SP1
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1.00 GB VRAM
FSX + Accel
UTX USA + ORBX PNW, NRM, CRM, PFJ, and various airports all correctly patched and latest libraries added
1680x1030x32 Resolution
DX9
Aircraft at Ultra High
Special FX at High
Scenery Sliders at Full Right except Water at Mid 2.x
No wind or weather other than some high clouds

If you need other settings, let me know.

Thanks , one question down, if it was gpu related , that all wave effects are absent is a clue to the system controller at fault , do the problems happen at locations without any scenery addons as well ?

Yes. The following screenshot is from the Virgin Islands. I have no addon scenery of any kind anywhere near there. It should be noted, as well, that none of my other amphibious aircraft show a wake when in motion and do not have a spray effect with the parking brake on. This is really a very small issue for me, as I don't spend a lot of time in the sim anchored; but it's a puzzle, isn't it? Tomorrow, if I have some time, I'll try replacing and removing the effects referrences in the aircraft.cfg file to see what changes. If you need me to try something, let me know.
