KNJW - Joe Williams NOLF

Here's something I've been working on for a few months it seems when I have had time (which has been few and far between)! It's KNJW (Joe Williams NOLF) just outside of NAS Meridian, MS. I have been flying Dino's great T-45C Goshawk lately out of NAS Meridian and have been wanting a good place to practice my FCLP work before going out to the boat. Students at Meridian use KNJW frequently for landing practice and FCLP so I decided to spruce it up a bit. The scenery is designed for FSX Acceleration and uses some object libraries that will have to be downloaded. Some screen shots are below. Maybe some will be interested in this and others maybe not. This is my second scenery project...I did Choctaw NOLF KNFJ last year for T-34 and T-6 ops down in Florida near Pensacola/NAS Whiting. This scenery also features a few custom buildings including the LSO shack. This is my first time doing custom building design so they're not the greatest. I didn't have any photos to work from of the building so I did the best I could. I'm currently trying to see if it is feasible to do carrier deck lighting on the runway at night and then I will probably release this for testing depending on if I do that or not...it all depends on how much time I have. Hope you like the shots!

Very nice Thetford. That is the kind of airfield I like to fly in and out of. Thanks for posting the photos.

That looks great!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Your Choctaw NOLF is one of my top 10 flying areas. My brother is a USMC aviator, I showed him Choctaw and he loved it. Combined with the Virtavia / Alphasim Turbo Mentor he said it was just like he remembered.

Thanks!

thanks everyone! It's funny that Choctaw NOLF is just like your brother remembered Dan...I've never been there and just filled it out with mostly default objects! It's so awesome to have Google Earth and Bing Maps to help with scenery design. You can get things looking close without having seen it yourself.

I'm going to try and find a way to add the carrier deck lighting to the runway at Joe Williams because it has the lights in real life. I think in real life those lights would be the only ones lit during night FCLP but I don't think this is possible in FSX without disabling the other runway lights which I don't know if I want to do. So, if I add them I will see how it looks with all the lights on and decide from there. The runway is not only used for FCLP but also for regular and emergency landing practice so it's still important to have the regular runway lighting as well. Too bad FSX doesn't model pilot controlled lighting or I could do it that way. Anyway, I hope to knock this one out soon and then maybe this summer I will have some time to work on an airport that I have always wanted to do with custom photorealistic buildings since I have access there. We'll see...it will take some more learning Google Sketch Up but I really would like to do it!
