I could never get the NVidia conversions to show up either. But, the ImageToMSFSKTX2 tool is very simple to use, and it creates the xml files and jsons with just a couple of key presses.

There was one step I omitted when using the Nvidia Texture Tools - you *must* set the KTX2: Zstandard Supercompression to zero or it tends not to work!
 
even if I do that, it does not work. But never mind, it works when I convert my textures via the SDK. It's a bit of a detour, but at least it works.
 
To convert ktx2 to png or dds in NVIDIA Texture Tool without colors and contrast loose, you have to select sRGB to linear in Effects menue. Than you get the right colors back.
