Local Legend 19: The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor

@ Jan Kees: William is certainly right but couldn't you keep the light blue anyway and change the reg.nr to OY-WIF (OY-BLU) or something ? IMHO the light blue livery looks strikingly good, too good to throw away. :encouragement:

I have no idea, the pic is from the Warpaint series, no.13. They are usually well documented. The only photos I found were in b/w, so that was not helpful. Red seems logical, I agree, and I can easily do a red one, for instance OY-DAM 'Dania"?

Sure, Jan Kees. I see your light blue OY-DEM is already at flightsim.to. (i never had any interest in the FW-Condor, never appealed to me somehow. Going to dl it now just because of your light blue repaint. ;-)

I guess the small pic here represents OY-DAM as it flew during WWII.

As always, great work, Jan Kees !

Beautiful looking aircraft! I have a question for creators though, is it possible to model gravity pushing down on an aircraft model? I see so many aircraft in this sim to appear not have any weight compressing shocks or putting slight bulging on tires when rolling or stationary. I think if it's possible, it would add a lot more realism, thoughts?
Tire compression would require different 3D models and then that 3D model would need to potentially move through or under a painted on texture. At one point the good year logo is on the bulge and in the next it isn’t…..I’d say near impossible.
Gear compression was possible and done in FS9 and FSX….so it should be possible in MSFS.
I actually have not paid any attention to it so far, I must admit. Simply look at the struts of an aircraft in flight and then on the ground to see if there is a difference.

Oy, dem new paints look great!

:)
Hey @jankees , I just want to grab the paint and the file on Flightsim.to is messed up. The textures are in the Model folder in the zip and some other files are misplaced, so it doesn't work. Somehow the folder structure in the ZIP is wrong.

(Also, if you do create a historically accurate red livery, please keep a light blue version as well! I think it looks great.)

You mention G-AGAY in your post. Would love to see a captured scheme... The only pic I saw, though, was a pretty amateurish model kit.

@jankees I am always shocked and a bit horrified, looking in the MSFS marketplace all the ppl selling liveries, at 5$ per group yet here you are posting your great repaints on on flightsim.to for free. While I am very grateful for the repaints of yours I am using, you should try to get a piece of that pie yourself.

Denny, are you sure there is something wrong with the zip? It looks fine on my end? 97 downloads so far and no complaints yet?

Blanston: it's hobby, I do this for fun. I have a real job that pays enough, but you are always welcome to donate...

There are a couple of comments on the file where people saw the same issue.

(Eek, those are big!)

Bedtime here but I’ll try a different browser (using Windsailor) to see if it still happens in the morning.

The same gear configuration settings that were present in FS9 are essentially still in use. Static/max compression, damping - it's all still there. The following link has documentation for the current system:

And at least in the FW200 there is some motion in the gear system visible even if she just sits there on the ground shaking a little as an engine starts or stops. Have not had a chance to fly her yet, but got her started up and so far I think it is a great model of an absolutely revolutionary aircraft.
The prop animation however is really unacceptable as is. Both in the different animations related to engine speed as well as purely the black shadow or what ever one might call that blob. I do hope that can be fixed.

I also have only a C46 thumbnail and not much more. Downloaded yesterday evening in Germany.
I really wished more stuff was posted on good old Flightsim.Com 😒

It definitely works for me now with the new Zip JanKees and the Thumbnail is also for the FW200.
I will add my vote for keeping the separate blue scheme....I know I would not delete it anymore anyways.
It is very good looking.

I think what is missing now texture wise is a fix for the prop disks and the interior textures are not exactly convincing. Not sure if the recration in Berlin looks like this.....but she is put together from a thousand pieces after laying in a Fjord for 60 years.

The aircraft itself I must say is a bit of a let down in its current form. I had really high hopes for it after the JU52/3M from the same designer. And the FW200 being such an aviation milestone. For me she is Connies older Sister. Especially in flight tuning she does need a serious rework. Simply looking at the MTOW and flight control surfaces you can figure at least her basic reaction to control input.
