Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Logging flight time hassles, AGAIN.

So, my logbook is broke again. :dizzy:
Someone else mentioned that the logbook is flakey like that and now I'm starting to wonder.
My logbook was rock-solid until I added the new(ish) GPU (1050 Ti) to my i3 rig and turned a bunch of stuff up.

Otherwise, FS is healthy. I have it locked at 60 FPS and everything seems smooth. I'm thinking I may be over-cooking a setting and the problem is somewhere between the (i3) CPU and FS9. Could it be the 3D clouds or maybe one of the other graphics settings?

Anyway, no big deal. I'm now about 5 hours short of logging 1,000 hours between FS2002 and FS9. :banghead:

Doing a clean reinstall of FS9 on a “new” machine. After install of modules of HDE v2 and the 5 first sceneries, FS crash every time accessing the log file. This, one is corrupted and even after a manual rebuild of the file, FS still crash. I have to try to find why but I’m suspicious about the.module.

do make certain that you have the latest DirectX Runtimes https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

also perhaps useful and worth looking into as an alternative to the dll wrapper in ENBSeries Mod: http://enbdev.com/download_injector_generic.htm

I have the last DLL. I’m pretty sure that is one of the latest installed add on is responsible. I have the exact same problem with the previous computer but I was thinking the computer was responsible. It’s clearly not the case.

I'm thinking more along the lines of FS having to read too many aircraft.
Those IRIS aircraft can be a prime offender. Stuff like the F-15 having over 100 variations adds up and all of that stuff gets read when FS starts.
I'm thinking that at some point FS will still read and load every [fltsim.XXX] entry it finds in the main aircraft folder but some of the satellite programs will break. I moved a couple of my IRIS and AI folders out to a "Work on it" location and my logbook is back and working fine.

Maybe. Actually my new install just have the base airplanes and 4 sceneries.
woow… lots of work to bring it back to life then… i hate when i have to reinstall my sim from scratch because there are some bugs causing it to act up on me… luckilly for now, my sim runs pretty nicely with over 50 different Aircraft Hangared, about 20% of AI Traffic and over 580 different Sceneries installed…

I just try to refrain from installing any or as less as possible FS2002 or older (CFS) or converted stuff (which potentially work within the FS9 Limits). - That mostly helps as well, to have it running accordingly…

Also i learned, that mostly not the Aircraft or the Sceneries are the issues that keep FS9 to act up… but mostly it is either the Modules or the Gauges… which means, i don’t allways have to reinstall the entire sim from scratch again but just copy the basic Modules and or Gauges folders from my backups to the current sim installation and overwrite when prompted… and voilas! My sim works again as before…

Keep in mind that FS is, essentially, a spreadsheet. :wavey:
Once one of those cells gets over-filled strange things can happen.
Much like the cat that glitches in the first Matrix. :dizzy:

I learned many years ago, possibly as far back as FS2002, that the more aircraft you have in the FS9 Aircraft folder, the longer it takes FS to load.

My solution was to create a hangar outside of the FS9 folder - I have a Hangar drive, but it doesn't have to be a separate drive, just anywhere but the FS9 Aircraft folder - and all I leave in the FS9 aircraft folder are the stock Cub, any other stock planes that also serve as AI, and my AI planes. When I want to fly (I have a dim memory of wanting to fly...) I just copy he plane I want to fly into the FS9 Aircraft folder, then delete the copy when I'm finished with it.

To make it easier to find a particular plane the Hangar is divided into sections like Early Birds, WW1, Golden Age, WW2, and Post-WW2, and within them subsections like Big Props, Big Jets, Rotary Wings, LTA, Small Prop Twins, Prop Singles, Small Jets, Big jets, and so on and on for whatever fits in with the main sections. It works for me; my FS9 installations all boot up nice and quick.

Mick - I have to ask, does each of your hangar folders (WW1, WW2, etc.) then contain a folder called "Aircraft" or just the individual plane folders in that category ?

Thanks in advance,
Ro

Since some years, I run different aircraft folders for different eras. No need to have a lot pre-war planes for retro CalClassic environment. I just rename the folders before starting the wished era. The main folder remains the largest one, because it growed historically,
