This package, in conjunction with Military AI Works, depicts the Shorts Tucano aircraft of the Royal Air Force based at RAF Linton on Ouse. RAF Linton on Ouse is tasked with the training future fast jet pilots for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, the Station operates the Shorts Tucano T1. Also based at Linton are the 642 VGS which serves air cadets from the Air Training Corps and Combined Cadet Force, providing basic pilot training in the vigilant motorglider (a modified Grob 109b).

Included in this package are 50 MGAI Shorts Tucano and 11 ElvisAI_Grob109B, as a bonus we
have included 635 & 645VGS Grob109B based at RAF Topcliffe. Also included is fully custom
scenery for RAF Linton on Ouse, RAF Topcliffe, RAF Church Fenton and AAC Dishworth by Stephen
Legg & Rob Brittain, this is an updated version of the original Military Airfields in Yorkshire package and is designed to be copied straight over the original scenery.

There is also an optional folder containing textures for the two Qinetiq Tucano’s from Boscombe Down. (You will have to provide your own flight plans for the two Qinetiq aircraft if you choose to use them.
 
Been flying this package myself, only installed it half an hour ago, a big thanks to all involved.
the scenery's been around for a few years but its been extensivly updated and looks really good.
Now, what hanger did i put Mr Piper's Provest ?

New Linton on Ouse

Thanks for the heads up Campbeam. I just started to work on England in my re-install of FS 9 so this is a timely notice.

What would be good RAF trainers for the 1950s and the 1960s at this base? I thought that I might edit the traffic file to reflect AI traffic from that time frame. Any recommendations?

I think that I'll place of few of the new RAF Balliol into the mix as I enjoy flying it.
 
I have'nt thought that far ahead yet, im just enjoying the Tucano's at the moment, i have a brother who live's in York, which is pretty close to these base's and you can hear and sometimes see them flying over the city. There not really the era im intrested in but i do have a soft spot for them.
The only thing i can think of is the Alpha-oldie Provest, and that really is old, F98 vintage with af texture's probably, seem to remember a piston Provest also.
Certainly a great place to fly the new Balliol, cheers ian

Hello lads 'n' gals,

This was a nice surprise - and though like Jag and Ian, prefer my AI set in the 50s/60s, this pack is a great starting point for this particular aerodrome.

Regarding AI - two suggestions:

1) Rob Richardson's great AI supplements to his FSX models. http://www.robertjamesrichardson.co.uk/AI aircraft.html. Now while these were in intended for the FSX environment, we're only talking about AI after all - and perhaps they'll port backwards to FS9. Maybe they'll have the same problems of some FS9 AI ported over to FSX (funky props, opaque canopies ...etc) - don't know, since I only have FSX installed now. But worth a try - as AI (whether for FS9 or FSX is scarce indeed!). The textures are .dds - perhaps some of the FS9 repainters can take these "back" into .bmp? Meteors would be dead accurate for the 50s at that base, Vampires somewhat less so (yes for the period, not so much on that base).

2) John Young's superb AI Hunters. On flightsim.com:

I've used the FSX versions of these at Lossiemouth, and they absolutely rock. Zero (and I mean zero) impact on FPS, on my tired old FSX machine. Again, these came out after I left FS9, so I can't comment on how they are - but assume they're as good in FS9 as in FSX.

On a related note, Mr. Young has separate FSX and FS9 packs for a whole host of retro British AI subjects: Hunters, Canberras, Lightnings, Victors, and Vulcans - likely a few more I can't think of off the top of my mind ...

when it became 1 FTS, with Piston Provost,Vampire, and after 1961, Jet Provost until that was replaced by the Tucano

Quick bit of 'googling' and this is whats available for FS as flyables, some also work as AI

As per delta_lima's earlier post, John Young's Hunter would fit in there rather nicely; and John has given us another option, as there was an AI Sabre in the Duxford pack which is supplied separately in the acg_ai_pack3_fs9 pack (with paintkit) as well.

Got a spare day tomorrow, think I could manage to have a crack at some Linton Sabres? Does anybody know which Hunter squadrons were based there, I might have a crack at them too (Ian, haven't forgotten the other Hunters I was looking at for you, just not had much time of late).
 
Thanks for all of that info! I'll start getting some Hunter and Jet Provost units on orders to transfer to Linton on Ouse.

By the way, how does a Brit pronounce Ouse? Is it something like Wees?
 
Very close package to me, play plenty of football in the approaches to Linton as well as its sister field Church Fenton (which is just down the road) as well as working under LFA11 so get to see plenty of Tucano as well as Typhoon and Strike Eagle dogfights over head....unloading wagons on my truck is always slower those days :kilroy:

Thanks for posting that link Motormouse. I just picked it up and I'll surely incorporate it as AI as well as fly the RAF Sabre over Gross Britannia and Linton on Ouse.

Up till now, I didn't know that the RAF ever flew Sabres. I knew that Canada and Australia had them, but the RAF connection had eluded me.

RAF had 430 Canadair Sabre's in service, in 13 squadrons between 1952 and 1958!

66 and 92 were the only UK based squadrons, the remainder were in Germany

RAF had 430 Canadair Sabre's in service between 1952 and 1958!

After the Korean war, the RAF realised that the Gloster Meteor was'nt up to the job as a front line fighter, but they had to wait for the development of the Hunter, so the F-86 was bought as a stop gap fighter untill the Hunter became operational.
