Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty released!

Aircraft showing up on the "Tactical Display" is done by the game I have no control it. The aircraft not being seen like the G4M2 is likely do to the LODs. LOD 20 is "anorexia"... If viewed from the front or back you cant see much, from the side it is better.

What I can do is draw in 3 flat Octagons. One for each engine and the fuselage so when it is viewed from the front or back it looks "fatter".

This is my distance FSDS LOD for twin engine aircraft. Not sure who I stole it from but I don't believe that I took the required 10 minutes needed to actually do one :icon_lol:. If you think that it would be of any use to you, PM me.. Actually,it is probably a little more complex than is needed.

Allen......
Didn't mean to start you off on a project. This is a great AC, and the problem may be entirely mine. Anyway it's no big thing and I can work around it.

Thanks for the offer but I can extract the LODs from the stock G4M2 just fine. My LOD 20 was LOD 10 in the stock G4M2. I should have added the octagons long ago but went "Meh"

If you saw it so did 10+ others that didn't say any thing. Any thing below LOD 20 has no moving parts do doing changes is easy.

EDIT:

Here is a pic. It is closer to the stock G4M2.

I'm glad! I updated the main download as well.

I'm not sure how the game dose the tactical display.... I thought it would not be tied to the model but thats get what I get for thinking...

Thank you!

Thank you Allen! :jump:

I am collecting all the updates and derivatives you are doing on the stock aircrafts!

Great job! :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Cheers!

Nice work Allen,

Just change the textures from us_pilot_1 and 2 to ja_pilot_ and 2 and then you should have Betty crewmen.

Regards,
B24Guy

That is what I did but I already replaced them. I made 2 clones of the betty nose gunner and put him standing up so now I have 2 waste gunners of my own. I did keep and shrink down the 2 waste 50 cals from the OH B-24 Liberator.

I decided to not go with opening and closing gun blisters so they will be open all the time. Anyway here are the latest shot.

Better and better.....

Great improvements Allen. I've already made a few test missions to check it out as a Player AC and this is a very handy addition. Especially the waste gun and tail gun views. It's a pretty accurate bomber too. I'd probably be more accurate if I new what altitude, speed and bomb sight angle produces the best results. Oh well, trial and error will sort that out. The only thing I can't figure out though is how to get my wingmen to bomb from altitude. They just want to go in and dive bomb the target. Other AI Bettys flying the same bomb run remain at altitude throughout. Only my wingmen go down low.They are very accurate, but it's just not quite right. Nothing particular to this AC. I get the same thing with The B-24 Guy's B-24 Liberator OH too. Must be another CFS2 quirk.

Stunning work Allen. Now the G4M1 lives up to her code name "Betty."

Worthless,

To calibrate your bomb sight, you can add the following to your CFS 2 cfg file:

[CHEATS]
bomb_trainer=1 <<<--- This will give you cross hairs on the ground where your bombs will hit.
free_warp=0
ALLOW_SLEW=0
damagemsgs=0
show_damage_log=0

;Active = 1
;Inactive = 2

The bomb trainer will give you a multi-colord X or cross hair on the ground where your bombs will strike.

For dive bombing level bombers, make sure that the DP file reflects the following for level bombers:

Unit_Family:

1 - Fighter (default)
2 - Bomber <<<--- Level bomber
3 - Ground vehicle
4 - Static object
5 - Ship or boat
7 - carrier

Category:

1 - aircraft fighter
2 - aircraft level bomber (B-24, He-111) <<<<---- Level bomber
3 - aircraft dive bomber (Stuka, Dauntless, Val)
4 - aircraft torpedo bomber (Avenger, TBF)
5 - aircraft tactical bomber (A-20, Ju-88)
6 - aircraft strike (Fw-190F2, A-4; 2-engine nightfighters?)
7 - aircraft civil
8 - aircraft recon (Storch)
9 - aircraft transport (C-47)
10 - aircraft fighter-bomber (any fighter equipped with bombs) or Dive Bombers

Example as it should be in the DP file for the Betty (B-26, B-17, B-24, He 111, SM 81, Etc.)

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=2 ;<<<---Level Bomber
category=2 ;<<<---Level Bomber
allegiance=4
max_group_size=8
min_speed=240
cruise_speed=270
max_speed=439
min_alt=50
cruise_alt=5965
max_alt=8948
entered_service=12/12/41
crew=7

If you are making missions, the MB will often save a level bomber's unit family as a "1." After closing the MB, you need to open the .mis file for the mission and edit the Betty's unit family back to a "2" before the mission will fly properly if the bombers are intercepted. Otherwise they will act like fighters.

Looks like this in the .mis file:
[unit_type.3]
type_id=3842
unit_family=2 <<<---Ensure this is a "2" for level bombers
name=G4M_Betty

The bomb sight is simple. You have a fixed sight a moving sight and a Adjust knob. If you can't see the fixed sight and moving sight turn the Adjust knob down. If your way up try using 60 or 90 degrees. What you want to do is put the moving sight on the fixed sight.

Use Altitude hold on the Auto Pilot before going to the bombsight. It will put the moving sight on the fixed sight for you.

As for your Wingmen. Your wingmen think they are fighter aircraft. You can try to edit the DP and set it up as a level bomber. Also edit the mission like shown above. However I think your wingmen may not work at all. I have never tested this my self to see if it would work or not. Also editing the DP will make the Betty unable to do torpedo attacks.

Hello Allen,
great and funny plane, do you have considered to remodel the interiors in external view, and then add all your stuffs to the g4m2? the stock plane is the model we have for this version of the Japanese bomber...
i have also made a 2d full panel for this plane, can it be helpful for someone?
