Moling: Can it be corrected?

I have this moling problem also with the GC Fi 156. which correct I have to do ?

Not quite correct, it also stores data from the m3d such as damage boxes and aircraft system data such as the dreaded c_gear node which usually is source of the moling issue.

Just been searching for solutions on the moling problem hence revisting this old thread.

I have this on my DH89 model, can someone tell me please what do I need to do in Gmax to prevent this?
 
Seems ta show up in the ''cut scenes'' and for me the only quick fix is to go to the ''xdp'' file and change the allow spawning from 'y' to 'n'. Again tho' you'll have problems in multiplayer... :icon_eek:
 
I took a look at some of the modified BDP files in a Hex Editor, and it looks like there's a section fairly near the beginning of the file (before the various parts of the structure are listed) where several sets of revised entries have been made. I can't really tell what the numbers he changed means, but they might be contact points in that two of them are identical but their sequence is reversed.

For Example:
F0 3F
F0 3F
F0 3F
F0 3F

Was Changed To:
F0 3F
60 72 4B EF 3F A0 BA B9 CA BF
A0 BA B9 CA BF 60 72 4B EF 3F
40 38 D1 FE 3F
F0 3F

If it is contact points that make the difference then why can't you just change them in the .cfg or .air file and be done with it?

It's not these files that affect it Lewis, by altering the bdp Corrado has 'bypassed' an error in the m3d.

With the DH89 I have this moling poblem but it's fixable by setting the part names and hierachy of the tail wheel assembly in te gmax source. It's this info that I need. Luckily I have some other source files that I can refer to.

Clive, so you must fix it with the source file or can you hack the m3d file?
 
Hi Lewis, if I understand it all correctly the root of the problem is in the gmax source model. Getting the source model right is the way to fix this, or as Corrado found if you don't have the source it can be fixed by hacking the bdp file.
 
Fixed! All of the landing gear needs to have the correct names and hierachy. C_gear, l_gear and r_gear. How this is altered in the bdp is beyond me, unless he's just renamed some parts.

Well done Clive! Sometimes a bit of rigour is essential! It doesn't help that a substantial part of the SDK is "Look at this P-47/Ju88 and see how it's done there" but that's what we have to go on...

Not! :icon_lol: It actually looks like a bag of spanners close up Lewis! I'm not at all happy with it so am going to have to remake most of it and consign this to a LoD model. When I look at what our other modellers are producing it makes me realise what a lot I have to learn.

well, this model already looks really good to me as it is. Maybe what you can do is release a beta one here at SoH and once you have definitely finishned it, you remove it and upload the final one.
