More AF Corsair Repaints

That's the rattiest hog I've ever seen! :) Should be worth a place in the repaint hall of fame.

Gray Eagle, I can't confirm anything, but I did save that image some time ago with the idea of eventually wanting to duplicate it, or one like it. However, I originally started some of these schemes months ago, and just now am finally getting around to finishing them due to having some extra time these couple of holiday weeks. That one in the photo is from the same time frame as my NAS Minneapolis paint scheme, and thus the two are very similar in the layout of the markings.

Here is a depiction of a Korean War-era "Blacksheep Squadron" Corsair, which is actually an F4U-4 paint scheme - more specifically, it is intended to match the restored F4U-4 owned by the Friedkin family/Comanche Fighters, which has been displayed with the Horsemen on occasion, registered N4TF. A few things still need to be improved on/changed (like the color of the engine - should be med-light gray on this one).

JT, I purchased this aircraft and have installed your beautiful repaints! Great stuff!!

Now, howzabout doing up this one since you have a lot of the base work already done? This is one I illustrated 30 years ago on canvas, so she is close to my heart! (Note the image below is not my work.)

BTW, anyone knew to this aircraft, I also have a couple other repaints I released earlier this year, in the form of jt_cors_n72nw.zip (Olympic Flight Museum) and jt_cors_n209tw.zip (Texas Flying Legends). For both of those, you'll also want to install the update I released for them, jt_cors_updates.zip (all available here and at Flightsim.com). Also, there are tons of repaints from Jan Kees available here and at OZx, and some other fantastic repaints by Martial Feron and Todd Disrud available at Flightsim.com.

Eric, that paint scheme of the "NAS Olathe" Corsair has actually already been done, very well, by Todd Disrud, and you can find the repaint at Flightsim.com as f4u1d_olathe.zip. Give it a try, and see what you think.
 
They certainly did, after WWII, in this case October 1950 (Korean War), with F4U-4 Corsairs. The VMF-214 "Blacksheep Squadron" didn't end with WWII, and that squadron still continues to this day, operating Harriers presently. These markings specifically are those of Lt. Joe Bibby, circa October 1950, operating off of the USS Sicily. This is one aspect of the real aircraft obviously missed by the Aircraft Factory team!

That is the reason why I've had to laugh everytime someone has stated (either in a review, or on the forums) that they felt that the flight dynamics must be quite accurate because they've bounced it on landing. : ) In reality, that was only a problem with the very earliest of Corsairs, and by the time of the F4U-1A, -1D, and subsequent variants, the landing gear had a much more cushioning effect. You'll see that the landing gear on the Corsair differs than you see on other warbirds, as when they're on the ground, with the full weight of the aircraft on the gear, the oleos are completely compressed, and they are intended to be that way using the full-throw of the oleo.

For the flight dynamics with the stock AF Corsair, I use those released by Fliger747, available here in the SOH file library, the file name: Air File for Milviz_A2A Corsair.zip (or you can simply search for Fliger747 and it will come up at the top)

Those were the flight dynamics which were originally supposed to be released with the aircraft (when under the management of MilViz), but for some reason were vastly modified in the AF release. However, they don't work correctly, as they are when downloaded, as some of the sections of the Aircraft.cfg file have to be changed to reflect some of the changes to the model after A2A/AF took it over.

I hope Tom doesn't mind, but for those who have never used Tom's flight dynamics with the AF Corsair, for the sake of not knowing what to modify, simply install these, as they are all already setup properly and cover all three variants (remember to save/re-apply all of your repaint entries).

One aspect of the AF Corsairs FD that I've never liked (and has to some degree, spoiled what is a lovely model) is the darned damping. Thanks very much for this;)

Was able to fine the air file for Milviz with a little help from the attached youtube video otherwise, I would of been floundering around in search mode till cows come home :adoration:

Couldn't believe that switch of air files but you explained what brought about the switch.
