MSFS 1.19.8.0 release notes

I finally got it all. Here's what I did. I had the Xbox App, but it needed updating, all of my Windows 10 is updated (be sure of that too). Go to the MS Store, click the three dots under the "X" and click Downloads and updates, give it a few seconds. It will first show an Xbox update if you do not already have it, download and install that. Close out the MS Store and reopen, go to Gaming and click on the MSFS Standard Edition shown. Important, do not Launch. Now go to the three dots under the "X" again and click, then click Downloads and updates again and give it time. MSFS should show up, click Get update and it started loading.

As mention, there will be more update in your Content Manager, you must have them, they include updates for those with deluxe and Premium Editions of MSFS also, plus updates to previous mandatory updates.

A word about download looping... If it loops once, call it a fluke and let it try again. If it happens twice, click pause, then close the app. Go into your Packages\Official\OneStore (or whatever the Steam version is) and delete anything that's not a folder. Restart your rig just for spits and giggles, then restart the sim. You may have to do this a time or two. I had one update that had to be restarted three times before it finally finished, but it does work eventually.

Update went smoothly. Honestly, I don't see any performance improvement or much in the way of changes. Clouds or white surfaces are still over-bright. The selection indicator is still on the screen. A few new historic buildings from a first year art student have been added I guess. Woo, woo. I'm tingling all over.

Got the update, updated in content manager trying to get the world update but the sim just crashes.

I have renamed the community folder, but nothing seems to work.

Windows is up to date as is the GFX driver.

Found another new feature: the safe mode. Wehenever the sim crashes on the next start up it will ask if you want to start in normal or safe mode. The latter starting the sim without the community folder content.

The problem I have now, even if I regularly close the sim without any issues it may still ask me just as if the sim crashed before. Not a major issue really, but as if this feature is trying to "show off".

So much for the altitude fix.

Just done my first flight since updating. I have offline AI enabled and although ATC left me alone as I was flying VFR right from the get go it was continually badgering the AI to expedite their cimb over and over and over.
It got really irritating.

Guess I'll just have to keep the AI disabled until Asobo REALLY fix this bug.

I haven't had a chance to fly yet, but my analytical brain thinks that safe mode popup might happen if you don't shut down the sim gracefully, as in all the way back to the Home screen and then "Quit to Desktop."

I'm hoping that at least the user aircraft altitude is now recognized correctly by ATC during IFR. That was my bigger concern since I use online "AI". Never had the expedite climb issue with the online "AI".

Set the Off Screen Rendering Option to "Ultra" and now everything is much smoother than before. Might be only me though as I have a CPU bottleneck.

Maybe I should give the online AI a go then.

For me it worked reasonable well..... after clicking around in the darn MS Store for a bit...... I was going around in circles trying to find the update when all of a sudden it started downloading (and changed the Store screen with the options on the left side). Alright, so I'm an old so-and-so and not paying attention to all the forum posts anymore.

Even with my flakey internet the download and install went pretty quick. Even the Germany World update of 5 Gb went down in one evening.

Only problem so far is the silly message when starting the sim (IF it starts, I sometimes have to try 3 times before the publicity screens appear), telling me to start in Safe mode. (I have an empty Community folder, by the way).

When running it, I had a few 'disappearances' (where the sim just disappears from memory and have to restart), two when selecting something when setting up a flight, the third 7 minuts into the first flight..... but after that it remained running and I did a 55 minute flight from Austria to Germany.
The ' disappearing' happened with the previous version too, hence my empty Community folder..... so that problem remains.

How do you normally close your sim? I have yet to see the Save Mode option, but I usually close out by going all the way back to Home and then using the Quit to Desktop button. I suspect the sim is doing some sort of parity check between files. In previous versions, one or more files were written and saved at closing, but only if the sim was closed correctly. With this one, I've noticed that using Alt+F4 doesn't save some changes, such as where you start on the world map, so it's apparently doing something similar here.

I've only had the safe mode screen once so far but that was after a normal shutdown from the Home screen, no crash or anything that should have triggered it.
I didn't even know that Alt+F4 was a thing.

Well, I'm underway with this update:

I had to d/l and install the Xbox app thing in order to get the MSFS to start :banghead: . I had mistakingly d/l the Xbox game bar thing yesterday.

The Xbox app said something about MSFS "Standard" .... :dizzy:

Now that is is installing I get stuff about the MSFS "Deluxe" and "Premium" . I purchased the Store version for MSFS "Premium".

I hope this does not lead to trouble.

15GB download! Let it go over night at 7.5mb average download speed. Paying for max 25mb, but definitely not getting it. Canada has the worst download speeds in the world. Sim updated, and everything looks good so far. Like others, I had to leave the Xbox app open, as well the M$ Store then, although slow as molasses in January, I eventually got updated. Working on updating the leftovers in the Content Manager and I might get to fly before bed. Fingers crossed.

Me too Robcap. No matter what I did I couldn't get the update from the darn store. Reinstalling the entire sim now. AARRGGHH!

I just want to give a shout-out to everyone here at the "House" that help us everyday !

I'm not a real world pilot ... but always wanted to be. I sometimes feel like I'm a little country mouse that has walked up to the only Stop sign in my little country mouse town ... so I stop .... I've never been further than that sign .... this is a big confusing world I live in !

@ DennyA, thanks for that info. I thought I'd some how installed the Standard & Deluxe edition.

Thanks Don

Well re-installed the whole thing and still it freezes whilst updating in content manager and crashes.

Very fed up with it.
