Mustangs are go!

I've been eyeing up the mustangs are after seeing three flying at Duxford last weekend, but I'm a bit confused by the Warbirdsim website. I can't tell if version 2 contains improvements over version 1, or if they are 'just' a different set of models. If there are improvements have they been rolled back into version 1, or does that remain as it was a couple of years ago?

Can anyone help a poor confused potential purchaser?

Thanks,
Mark
Sure. No problem. Each version has different models.

One of the problems with the earlier Mustangs was instability. This was solved with an extended dorsal fin for the 'D" model, which was adapted in the field for the earlier "B" and "C" models.

The initial WBS Version I Mustang represents the original "B" and "C" models with drop tanks. The "P-51 Flight Leader Version II" Mustang (for FS9 only, I might add) includes models with the dorsal fin addition and has bombs instead of wing tanks.

Each version has 5 different models representing with or without the Malcom hood, British vs. American joystick, etc.

If that isn't enough incentive for you to make a purchase, let me add one more comment. There are a lot of FSX textures for the first package which are easily converted to FS9. I currently show 105 repaints in my Version I install, and I know I've missed a couple. My Version II install currently has only 11.

I thought Chuck Yeager's plane was called "Glamorus Glen" or something like that. I am fairly certain there was a spelling error on his first plane. The later planes had correct spelling.

Torsten, any chance you could upload those converted paints..?

Also, where did you get the one with the black/yellow lightning bolt and the bare metal RAF one?

Was the paintkit ever put up for general download somewhere? I have emailed warbirdsim but no reply yet (it's only been a day, so I realise I'm being impatient).

Cheers!

A little work in progress shot. I'm a very inexperienced painter, so this will probably take a while to finish...

This represents the P51B mount of Lt. Francis Horne, "Snoot's Sniper", 352FG, 328FS, during the summer of 1944. His machine's nickname was misspelled as it was suppose to be Snoot's Snipper. S/Sgt. Art Snyder was the crew chief and also doubled as the 328FS barber. Note the barber pole on the right hand side. This Mustang was long lived, accumulating over 300 hours of combat and was still at Bodney come VE Day. Lt. Horne was credited with 5.5 air to air victories and 1 on the ground.

I was in the "Hangar" Museum of Oldern Art and I found an original Jankees, one of the best repaints of the Warbirdsim Mustang :applause:

sorry guys, I kind of forgot all about FS9 after my switch to the 'dark side', and so all of my later paints for this baby have been in 2048 dds files. Now, if Torsten wants to convert my paints for FS9 and wants to make them available here on the outhouse, then I won't stop him, in fact, I'd like to thank him for taking the trouble of doing it.
You'll see that I have been busy...and that they get dirtier and dirtier....so enjoy them!

Hi Jankees, great work and thanks for your generosity. :ernae: :salute:

OK, Torsten, ball is in your court! :icon_lol: :wavey:
