Name that airplane

Oh the agony of waiting!!!!!:jump::jump::wavey:
Where else could you have a plane that could not only haul mail and passengers but could also compete in all out pylon races and actually have a chance at winning? Yep, Roscoe Turner actually raced The Gilmore Lion in a pylon race or two before going to the Wedell-Williams.
Seeing her in 3D rendered glory warms my heart.:ernae:

168 hours and counting...
seriously, I've waited for a long time; I'm pretty sure I can hold on another 167 hours 59 minutes and some odd seconds...:costumes:

Looking at the first set of pics...all I could say was that the plane looked like a flying tube of tooth paste (no insult meant by any means)...the shape of the fuselage and cowling remind me of a unopened tube of tooth paste. But that last pic with the engine in place, the plane painted....WOW!

Is this going to be a payware plane? If so, I think I will have to buy it...even though I don't have FS2004. I will have to convert it to CFS2...but I would really love to fly that plane.

Hey OBIO

LOL @ tube of tooth paste:costumes:
Thanks for the compliment, yes it's going to be payware but if you have ever been on my site you know I don't put a big $ sign on mine. Just enough to make a little extra to help out.
Convert over to CFS2? Now that would be nice....want me to install 6 50cals on her? That would be cool, shoot down a plane then deliver the mail.

Started on the interior tonight, not easy to do with a puppy chewing your toe!

A few computers ago I had converted the FS5/FS98 Air Express to CFS2 standard and had put in a Tommy gun in the left wing just beyond the propeller arc (Used DPEd to simulate the Thompson's ballistics). Not the most effective dogfighter but good enough to keep the revenuers out of my way while i was running whiskey across the border in Prohibition era America.:costumes:
At least I learned that a Tommy gun is not a good air-to-air weapon (rate of fire sucks and those are some s-l-o-w bullets)

WOW!!!!:isadizzy::isadizzy::d:d:medals::medals:, Never thought I'd see my own piggy bank fly...yuk, yuk, yuk :costumes::costumes::costumes:. Its looking awsome NCGent, will it be done soon?

No need for guns...I use CFS2 as a Flight Sim as much as I do a Combat Flight Sim. I have an ever growing number of unarmed GA aircraft, older radial birds mostly, that I fly for the sheer joy of flying. I keep saying I need to get a copy of FS2004 so I can enjoy all the birds you Civil Simmers enjoy without having to spend time converting them to CFS2 first.

You may still be able to find a pristine copy at a few shops but it's getting rare. Price is normally $19.95 when you find one. If you don't have any luck, starting a thread on here may get you a lucky find...

Walmart.com had them for $19.99...but I just looked and they no longer have it. Should have grabbed a copy when I first saw them on there...like my wife said to do. But, in my defense, the system I was using them simply did not have the power to run FS9. Now that I have a much more powerful system, I can run FS9 and can't find a copy readily available. There are lots of auctions for FS9 on Ebay, so should be able to pick up a copy fairly easily there.

Funnnny you should say wal mart and FS2004. I was at one of the local wal marts here and as always I go to the software section to see what they have and there was at least one box there. I thought it funny to see it and even thought about buying it as a back up. Let me know if you can find one and I can get one here.

Hey Guys an Gals

It's coming together nicely and should be ready soon. With the help of some great SOH guys I figured out what I was doing wrong on the reflective textures and now they are in place. I may change a few of them but I wanted to see how it looked. Here she is so far.:jump:

Oh my goodness, what a loverly bird. I've always thought the wooden Lockheeds were just about the prettiest planes ever built.

You know, (hint) a lot of the components in that Air Express could easily be reused in a passenger cabin Vega. Or (shameless pleading) a Sirius, the all time good looker.

One of the Lockheed Vega, Altair, Express, Sirius, etc 'Family'.
If I was motivated I'd find the ancient copy of the IPMS USA Journal in my files (sometime around 1970 IIRC) that caused a great deal of angst among the 'Warmongers' of the membership, as this issue was devoted entirely to this particular Lockheed series, not a 'Warbird' or a 'Hakenkreutz' in sight.
:applause:

Yes, Gene Milligan did that series. I knew him out in Hawaii. All of them based on the Lindberg Winnie Mae Kits. I still have a couple of those out in the garage.:wiggle:
