NAS Alameda, CA KNGZ for FSX

I understand now

Im sorry guys, but its the same old problem, ive just double checked the ADE file for V3.0 and there is still no runway link, your Ai will never move because they dont have a runway to take off from--
Ive taken a screen shot, you'll see the blue line running down the center of the main runway, thats a taxi link, that needs to be changed to black, for it to become a runway link, then your Ai should start to move, i did try to explain this back at post 251, ive opened up V3 in ADE and amended for my own use and the A7'S are running fine,

cheers ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your patience. I followed this last night and updated my current version on MY FSX. Well...I was able to open FSX this morning here on the East Coast USA at 0855 local which was 0555 in California. USS Constellation CVA-64 got underway as scheduled and I went to a "birds eye-top down view" and watched her sail under the Oakland bridge and off to her operations this morning. Really cool. AND the most important part, C1A 788 of VR-30 taxied and took off for Lemoore right on schedule at 0600 on Rwy 31as well. In the top view you can see the red type at the end of the runway as she takes off. As Hannibal was fond of saying in A-Team: "I love it when a plan comes together" LOL. I am going to upload a link here to Version 3.1.2 with all the "bells and whistles" here and then when I get the tower and custom hangers 20-23 from simulloyd I'll finish it as V3.1.3. I am having so much fun with mine I gotta share it with youse guys here.

I am VERY much looking forward to this scenery when released. I use FSX and P3D 3.2.3, so will happily test in both if you like. Though P3D is rapidly becoming my default sim of choice.

Where is Alameda?

Couldn't resist this clip from Star trek, the voyage home, your screnery may help Mr Chekov,----

When I started reconstructing this air base I felt like Chekov. My stack of ref's printed out from downloaded photos everywhere looks like an enecylopaedia but it's working. It has been such a learning curve all the way but so much fun, too. I am so glad that it is almost completed. I guess this download V3.1.2 can be considered a "dress rehearsal" until the last few custom buildings from simulloyd are placed and a "bow tied around it". Anyway, everybody, please download and install. Then, place all your comments, glitches, etc. I would recommend removal of the airport bgl's from addon scenery/scenery. The rest of the uploads should not be a problem and can be left where they are.

The long-awaited NAS Alameda Recreation for FSX

Here is the dropbox link to the zip folder with all the files for Version 3.1.2

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1sfp38723i86lrl/KNGZ V312 and addons.zip?dl=0

I am going to work on VR30 aircraft repaints of the C1As (6) and R4Ys and make a folder of them as ai with a flight plan so not to be "frame hogs" in their UI states. Three repaints are complete for flyable versions using the G7-C1AX available here.

I think I will start a new thread for that with this one going to 16 pages soon.

Thanks for the upgrade

Thanks Richard for the upgrade.

Good to see two different carriers at the pier. Like the detail added at the main gate.
I can hear the seagulls but wiil the cv-59 sounds play at the same time? I thought FSX would play one sound at a time.
I clicked on the CV-59 sounds just to hear what it is all about and I think it is pretty cool :encouragement:
When I added the seagulls sound, it looks like I already had that one installed from another program that uses same sound byte.
I guess I could back up the birds sounds just to see if the Ship sounds will play. Is there a particular place I have to be to see the birds and hear
the ship sounds. I took the trike and landed on the FID (Forrestal) just to see if I could hear the boatswain noise but didn't. It looks like there is a time interval
where the ship sounds activate.

KNGZ Sounds

The sounds play at the same time. The CVA59-snd.bgl is specially written. I followed another snd.bgl pattern from FSDeveloper that actually plays four at one time. After much tweaking, mine is working perfectly. It begins probably 15-20 seconds after FSX starts. To hear it best, start at MILCOMBAT Parking 10 which faces the seaplane lagoon. The CVA59 sound wav file is 27 minutes long and plays once not looped like the seagulls. I had it looped originally but then it was only 7 minutes long with no time space in between sounds and it sounded dumb to go over and over. When I edited it this afternoon and learned how to add exact time long silent spaces in between I decided to make it play only once all the way through since I felt that we would have done all the pre-flight and taken off in that span of time. The further you get away from Forrestal it gets fainter since the CTRL is written to be lat/long sensitive as it should. If you guys after using this think that it should be looped I can do that with no problem. It was so cool this morning at 0600 to watch Connie get underway. So far, no one has told me how to program the sound files to play at specific UTC times or I could do Reveille; chow calls, Colors, TAPS etc. All the sound I created and recorded are not time specific but could happen anytime during the day. I remember that in port the captain comes and goes depending on his schedule and where he wants or needs to be. If you can't here the Forrestal, post here and I will try and help you find out why.

Sounds

Richard,

For now, I temp squelched the birds so that I could hear the CV 59 sounds. I landed the trike on the flight deck and waited for a bit then I heard the sounds. Pretty cool.
I remember when at Taps, the Chaplin would come on and give a prayer before turning in. I'm not suggesting a Chaplin prayer :biggrin-new: Just came to mind when I heard the other
sounds. Quite a feat from the beginning when it was just a V1 or was it V0.9?

I installed this great scenery, but the old NAS Alameda from the Orbx scenery bleeds through. How do I turn that off? Also, would greatly appreciate whatever AI files anybody has created because Im an idiot at creating that stuff.

In the case of FSX, go to: FSX\scenery\0102\scenery and remove APX15180.bgl after backing it up outside of FSX.

I wrote in the forum at ORBX about a problem another ORBX user is having. I just logged in over there in the forum and got a reply from Alex over at ORBX about SBuilderX and creating exclusion rectangles in your FTX NCA version of Alameda.

I said that I don't know about you but I don't know how to tell you how to do that. He is going to download and install our V3.1.2 and get back to me. I will post the response here as soon as I get it.

Noisy GU11s

You mentioned that the GU11s were too noisy. I think that is because as you said, you already had that .wav sound from some other scenery. When I first uploaded the final version of V3.1.2 in my FSX, my gulls were twice as loud as the CVA59 1MC. I uploaded the gulls3 into my Adobe Audition which is what all my sound editing is done in and halved the audio of the gull3.wav and doubled the volume of the CVA591MC.wav. This was what I included with the file. If you kept your old gull3.wav, then take it out of your sound folder and save it like on the desktop and paste my gull3 in the FSX sound folder and see how that works for you. Also, you asked about seeing the gulls flying. They are over the seaplane lagoon at about 300 feet AGL which is where I put them with the "bird program". Unfortunately, they don't dip and dive like real gulls. I may experiment with the altitude and put it down to the airport elevation and see if they will dive and then soar again.

I have not heard anything from anybody over at FSDevelopers about setting an effect to occur at a specific UTC time if it is indeed possible in FSX-A. I may sit down in a little while and start reading the Special Effects SDK and see if I can find any answers there about doing that. If I do find a way, then I am going to setup: Reveille, Mess Calls, Colors, 8 bells at Noon, Sweepers and taps each by themself and the other announcements throughout the day at various times.

Tim Taylor of "Tooltime" has nothing on me. If there's a way to do I'm going to find out how. LOL. Keep having fun with it. I have been doing textures all day for VR-30 and other C1A Trader CODs for Miramar, Lemoore and North Island. found some beautiful jpgs today.

Thank you for all the encouragement from everybody that kept me going through all the rough spots. I'm really glad that it was worth it.

Richard

Hello Alameda Fans,

The past few weeks have been challenging. I had hoped to have the tower finished by now. One short-coming will be detailed ladders and hand-rails. Here a few screen shots of my latest updates.

WOW

Hello Alameda Fans,

The past few weeks have been challenging. I had hoped to have the tower finished by now. One short-coming will be detailed ladders and hand-rails. Here a few screen shots of my latest updates.

I know how had this is to do as you know. Some of my buildings I took right out of Sketchup but the housing I created from scratch as you have done this. It is really great looking and we are all anxiously awaiting it. I was having too much fun with V3.1.2 not to share it though it has my OLD tower. All the other buildings were revised from the previous versions to make it as good as I could. Can't wait to add the tower when you get it done. I know what you mean about ladders and railings. I had to do stairs and railings for the multi-family enlisted housing. What a challenge! When I got one in place, it moved when I added the other or a wall disappeared. There was a lot of midnight oil in those but it was worth it to me even if nobody drives around and sees them. I know that they are there where they should be. Keep on keepin' on. Thank you for ALL YOUR EFFORTS. A couple of user complained about conflicts so I am communicating with ORBX to make us compatible with all the ORBX users as well. Alex is being very helpful and working with us here. They're really talented and good people.

Trouble is, I don't remember which scenery the gull.wav sound I overwrote was for.

If you kept your old gull3.wav, then take it out of your sound folder and save it like on the desktop and paste my gull3 in the FSX sound folder and see how that works for you.

An Updated Version with Sound and Boat Traffic

Since I am still waiting (patiently simulloyd, honest) for the custom tower and hangers 20-24, I have been tweaking to get this to work right and I believe that I've done it. Then my FSX crashed big time and I had to totally remove everything and start from scratch with installation. I have all my addons (minus the ones I don't use anymore) up and operating including this version of KNGZ with ALL the taxiway links, designations and runway paths working and NO FAULTS (that matter) and today I got a progressive taxi from Alameda Ground. There was an ATIS at NAS Alameda but we can't tune it because it was UHF military radio (284.2) and we can't do that in FSX. I assigned a frequency in the lower range that the comm's use but it doesn't work and I can't get any answers why so I use FSXWX for my METAR and real weather.

Here is the link to Version 3.1.2a of NAS Alameda with all the addons. In case you don't have it, I included the Kittyhawk and Constellation in a zip folder. I also correctly installed the TACAN/COR in its proper location. If you have the RFN421 Carrier Gauge and TACAN you can dial in TACAN Channel 78X (113.10) for the field. I've got it installed in my COD but haven't flown out to the carrier with it yet.

Here's the link:https://www.dropbox.com/s/jt1vj8maygv0pbh/KNGZ V312a and addons.zip?dl=0

Drop me a PM if you have any problems or suggestions and we'll keep on keepin' on with it.

A Jeep Tour of NAS Alameda

Yesterday afternoon I took the FSX Jeep CJ and drove around the base to check it out. Boy was that fun! All the roads are driveable as I had hoped when I designed the base. I am going to go in and put the "STOP" at the proper intersections as some street signs and SPEED LIMITS on the streets where they belong too. Here are some pictures from yesterday.

Richard,

I honestly have not kept up with the progress of your project, as I've had too many other real-life stuff happening lately. But your detail work is truly amazing!

I hope someday to see NAS Cecil Field recreated to that level. The problem is, except for a few photos I've been able to collect from the internet over the years, I've not been able to locate much on the history of Cecil. What really surprised me is that the Naval Aviation Museum has almost no information about the base. NC

Perhaps when NAS Alameda is "in the can". I know it would be much easier after so much I had to learn creating Alameda and the area around it. I knew nothing about Model Creator, Sketchup, and only a little about Airport Designer much less anything about sounds or traffic files. Now that I am totally confused not just a little LOL!!! I may tackle Cecil Field next as we say in Church..."If The Lord tarries..." Thank you for the compliment and encouragement. Every time that I think that I've got some area done, I think of something else to add or make better. I guess that is the real fun in this though. I have my FSX up to date having to check out everything to be sure it works and this week I just finished adding the "Homeport Club" EM club and IMHO it's not bad. With the latest traffic.bgl, USS Kittyhawk, CVA-63 departs NAS Alameda for NAS San Diego anchoring off of North Island tomorrow morning at "O-dark-thirty", a 21.25 hour cruise. Keep up with us and all our updates.

Sittin on the dock of the bay

Took some shots of an appropriate vehicle at NAS Alameda in a Navy Jeep while on security patrol. While looking at the pics, click on the you tube video as you; some of the lyrics bring back memories for me
when I was sitting on the dock of the bay at Grande Island (Subic bay) and heard that song playing back in late '67 when I was stationed there. I think Otis Redding mentions about heading for the Frisco bay; NAS Alameda seemed appropriate.

Just scroll down to view a few pictures and take in the music.....
