NAS Alameda, CA KNGZ for FSX

I was trying to update some links and had a problem

Regretfully the link does not work. Getting the error that the file is no longer in this location.

Can we please get an updated link.

Thanks

I will put up a new link later today or tomorrow at the latest with all the newest updates.

I've been following this project and can see that it is clearly a labor of love, made with tons of enthusiasm. I have not yet tried any version but intend to try the latest. Screenshots look great so far.

I just wanted to offer a few words of friendly advice, based on my limited experience in scenery building. I have found out that the enthusiasm to include every little detail in 3d, especially with the easiness that this can be done in sketchup, leads very fast in excessive thousands of polygons in the model. Things like rails etc can easily be made using transparent textures on a flat surface, without noticeable reduction in the quality of looks, and quickly save many polygons. Also, a good control of the number of textures used needs to be exercised to reduce drawcalls. Textures for buildings can be combined in larger sheets.

Again, please consider these remarks as well intended and friendly advice. This base lies in an area that is already quite dense with autogen in the sim and performance may be adversely affected if people want to run high sliders. I will try the latest version, when available to check for performance and get back with feedback. What is your current feeling for performance when flying an aircraft of moderate complexity from this base?

Complete Redoux

Here is NAS Alameda with all the fixes and new updated sound files. Everybody PLEASE download and replace everything in the sounds and effects folders with these entries. Also remove the last KNGZ NAS Alameda scenery in your Addon Scenery and replace with this Version 3.1.2f. When asked to replace any files click replace so there are no conflicts. That includes the traffic in Scenery/World/Scenery because tracks have been updated to work. Except for the new tower and hangers from simulloyd when I add them to the next update, this should be it for a while. I'm gonna do some flyin' for a change and get out of the "workshop". Enjoy. Here is the dropbox link to it:

Very good point on polygons, drawcalls, etc with Sketchup I am very much mindful that my minor features are going to load up the polys. Most of the time I will delete out non-essential faces and line without disrupting the intended shape of the model. The buildings I have made will tend to have walls corners and crevices/chambers formed by the intended shape. These are the areas that will add labor to your rendering/performance.

I had originally intended to do just accurate structure placement and the tower alone turned into a fun learning project at the same time. I can easily scale back the ladders and package the models as a lite version. In fact I will put the tower and admin buildings in Model ConverterX minus ladders and report out the drawcalls first. Then later see the difference with ladders.

V3.1.2f

In your readme:

Included also are the Kittyhawk and Constellation ai traffic files as well as the traffic.bgls for them.

I didn't see them with the package. Only carrier I saw was the FID (CV59) and no others.

Previous version, I saw all three carriers, not this time; only one.

Okay here is my fix sorta

In order for me to see the other carrier i.e. Connie/Kitty Hawk, I "borrowed" the traffic files from V 3.1.2b and pasted them in the KNGX scenery. The outcome was I could now see the CV64; in fact,
at o'dark 30 in AM the Connie was steaming out of port heading towards the Golden gate. I still didn't see the hawk, did you have it on some kind of cruise to North Island or something?

In your directions for the 3.1.2f, you said, delete all previous file contents of NAS Alameda, I did and I had my carrier traffic files there. I didn't install any of the carrier traffic files in the WORLD/Scenery folder
and I am assuming that you thought that is where I and perhaps any one else would put them. I don't know if you made up new carrier traffic files as I didn't see them when I inventoried the file contents of
V3.1.2f. So my thought was, use two recent carrier traffic files from your previous version and see if I would see the Kitty Hawk and the Connie. For now, I don't see the Hawk.

At least I have more then the one static carrier to look at. :untroubled:

Traffic files work now

Richard,

Thanks for the carrier traffic files. They work great. :encouragement:

I will merge theses traffic files with your last update of NAS Alameda so that I have all that is needed.

You are welcome to all, sorry I missed them in the update. These 0100 updates have GOT to stop. LOL.

Cv 64 pod

After reading the CV64 POD, I was able to know when it was in/out of port.

PLAN OF THE DAY 1MC IN PORT
05:00 Begin day
05:15 Commanding Officer arrives – 1MC
05:30 Make Preparations to get underway – 1MC
05:45 Set the Special Sea and Anchor Detail – 1MC
06:00 Let go all lines and get underway – 1MC
11:00 Back at anchorage at NAS Alameda outboard of the piers
12:00 8 Bells and Mess Call
14:30 Test Ships Alarms and Whistle
15:30 Fire Drill In Port
17:30 Prepare To Get Underway
17:45 Set the Sea And Anchor Detail
18:00 Get Underway
23:10 Return To Port-Secure the Sea and Anchor Detail

At 13:00 I went to Alameda expecting to see the Connie alongside the Forrestal but it was not there. I don't know where she went.
At 05:00, It will be at the pier and soon after, underway heading towards the Golden Gate bridge. At 13:00 the Kitty Hawk was visible and almost tied up but looked more to be static
then anything. So. based on the CV-64 POD ^ I wonder where the Connie went? I am also curious as to the track or path of the two carriers you made traffic files for. I saw the Patuxent
over by the area where all the shipping crates are staged and she too looks to be static as well.

Just letting you know what I experience when I go to Alameda at the times when it looks like the Connie should be tied up.

Getting Underway

I wanted to edit my last ^ above, when I adjusted the time for the Connie to get ready to get underway, I see the ship there and when I change the time for getting underway, It backs up
and spins around almost capsizing while the Kitty Hawk is observing all this and remains static.

So, I guess there will be times when the connie is not berthed and I guess the Kitty Hawk never really does a complete berth.

AI Ship Traffic

I have found trying to study these; make adjustments; recompile...everytime that I think that I have it figured out it seems that FSX(A) does something else with them. I have tracked Connie from start to finish spending hours doing this and it works. I found that when you try and sample changing time or coming in and out of FSX they do not play well with each other. The Patuxent is not static but DOES move from one side of the Naval Supply Piers to the other. This was a test and I left it do that for now. It just cruises around the point and back at times. The Connie and the 'Hawk will reverse all engines and go straight back for a short time and then do a 360 to head on out to sea. This is why I am not able to moor them to a pier. They don't reverse long enough to lear the pier and "crawl over it". I also found that though it says that it will reverse a single track, it doesn't FOR ME. I had to make a racetrack for the ship to get it to go out and cruise back to the anchorage. Otherwise at the end of the time it "warps" back--disappears from the Pacific and reappears like magic off Alameda.

Kittyhawk is always anchored off of Runway 31 until it departs and then comes back. The carriers all depart strange sometimes. Google Earth tracks and FSX(A) also do not play nice together. After all the work I've done with these, I have come to the conclusion that its as good as it gets IMHO. I am not upset with this and do not consider you criticising in any way. If you want to play with them, download AIBTC and add a new ship like maybe a DD and make a kml track for it. There is a link online called Boat Traffic For Dummies made by Misty Mooring that explains this really well which is where I started. That and the tutorial with the AIBTC will get you "in all the trouble" you could possibly want with ai boat traffic. LOL. Ya can't hurt nuthin' and just have some fun.

If we have any ai boat traffic experts and see all kinds of errors I have made above please post here to share your wisdom with all of us novices at ai boat traffic. I know one person here who has given us 600 ships of different kinds all over the world who I sincerely hope jumps in here. I think he spent 3 years making the ships and the tracks and I only spent 4-5 weeks so obviously we can use the advise of an expert willing to share his wisdom.

As a heads up, simulloyd's tower is placed in the next version. I am waiting on the hangers from him. I have completed the EM general mess, new EM barracks updated correctly from new information I ran across and finishing up the O' Club for all of us pilots. Keith said that he was not putting offices and workbenches into the hangers and I told him I was not putting a bar or tables and chairs into the O' club. You guys will just have to pretend. We sim pilots are really good at that though I know. LOL. More updating later.

If all goes well with the model I will be sending these over to Richard for inclusion to the updated Alameda.

Its Getting Close

Little by little with a lot of "blood, sweat and tears" NAS Alameda is nearing a finished release. With this one I want to be sure that it all works as designed so before a link is posted here I will be sending a private dropbox link to my beta testers who have been so much help in this project. A BIG thank you to all of you for your input and your encouragement. We've come a really long way from the start of this project and now the end is in sight.

If you get a black anything it means that somehow you lost the textures to it. I will PM you a set of textures to paste into your NAS Alameda airport textures file later since I am not being deluged with everyone else with a black air terminal too. Watch the mail.
