Need help! wf_smal_factory_1 object giving me fits!

MaskRider

Tiller of Soil
First off let me just say that when it comes to making great scenery objects for CFS2 nobody surpasses Wolfgang "wolfi" Faber. I use his scenery objects everywhere.

However, there is one object, wf_smal_factory_1, in wolfi's CFS2_Library_Objects_part_6 pack that gives me fits!!

There is a damage effect called up by that object that causes my rig to CTD every time! Actually first it freezes and then it CTDs.

Here is a screenie of the pesky little barnacle! This is where it sits in my recent Saipan release, nestled among the sugar cane processing facilities at Charan-Kanoa- on the coast due north of Kobler Field.

I love that object. I want to keep using it. But can someone tell me why this is happening and what if anything can I do about it?

Thanks!
MR

MR,
The following effects are among those called up in the item's dp file but they do not appear to be CFS2 default effects:
fx_burningoil
fx_bldgexpl_s
fx_bldgexpl_l
fx_veh_fire_l
Check your EFFECTS folder and see if you have them. Maybe they were included in another d/l and never got installed.

Hi Ro and TARPSbird. Thanks for the help.

I have 4 of the five installed. Ro, as it turns out, the one I don't have installed is the fx_burningoil.

Its very possible that I have it clunking around somewhere. I will have a looksee and update.

Thanks again for getting it narrowed down for me.
MR

Found it!

It's over at Nanni's site. It's included in the LLights-1.1.zip!

Cheers & tx again,
MR

Whoops!

actually I didn't find it. The name of the effect in the landing lights zip is fx_N_burningoil.fx.

Dang!

Hmmm... could the dp be calling out the wrong fx?

Either way- could I solve the problem by altering the dp file so that it calls out the fx_N_burningoil.fx instead of the fx_burningoil.fx ? That one I've got.

Guess I can try. :)

MR

Yo Maskrider .... there is a Santa!

.
Yo MR;

Took a bit of searching but I have found your elusive: fx_burningoil

It was included in the "Hiroshima Aug 6 1945" singlemission upload. (by Rolf I think [July 2 2001])

It is part of an effects package called: Burning oildrum placeable effect v. 1.0 ... which my search indicates it is a Nanni / Nibbio creation; however it does not appear on their current web pages.

Never the less, I've posted it here for you. (just remove the ".txt)

Here is the entire package:

Hope this helps you out Bro.

Hope this helps you out Bro.

Hehe, oh yeah. I'll say it does.

Alright! Thanks Dirtman!

Its not that it is a big huge problem. But when it occurs- it's noticeable!

I'll get those files loaded up and check it out.

MR

Well, dang! Something is still amiss!

I loaded up the new fx file, fired up the sim, shot a couple of missiles at the little darling. Result: freeze-up and crash.

Went into the objects_dp folder to open up the dp file and check that all was "ok"- as if I could tell.

First thing I noticed though was that there was a very old cdp file for that object- from way back in may 2008. Does that sound right?

Anyhow, I dumped that CDP file, restarted the sim and tried again. Same result.

I am outside of my envelope. :)

BTW I open up the new CDP file- as best I could- this was part of the more legible gibberish: "Un-hittable systemdp_box_0¼". However, also found the same entry in CDPs for objects that are damaging fine. So, it probably means nothing, huh?

here is my actual DP file of this object, I removed the permanent "smokestack" effect and it works well.

Wolfi

Hiya Wolfi! Thanks.

; DPED Version 1.10

I will go ahead and give swap it out on the chance that there is some sort of corruption in the currently installed version.

I don't suppose this could be some sort of hardware issue?

Well ,I noticed the issue with CTD with the permanent smokestack effect, after I removed it I had no problems, I thought that I maybe uploaded the wrong DP file with the objects. Would be interesting if someone else had the same problem?
I'm back in around two hours (go biking) .
Wolfi

Well, I don't want to make too much more of a big deal of this. But I did swap out the dp with the one you sent.

I shot at and destroyed all of the buildings around and adjacent to the small factory and then took a shot at it. I repeated this drill 3 times- same result all three times except that on the third try I flew non-full-screen mode and was able to get a screenie of this error message.

View attachment 20576

Its Greek to me.

MR,
that particular message is a spurious Windows error message which usually happens intermittently. It can happen during any application, not just CFS2, and more particularly when you're shutting down the application (or of course if it's being shut down for you). I've even had it when shutting down any of the servers I had in my old server farm around five years ago ! IIRC, the only time to worry about that message is if it happens consistently (or even continuously), in which case you should seek proper technical help (that is, rather more than I'm capable of giving).

I also checked the file posted by Wolfi above, and it is actually the same file that was included in the original upload of CFS2_Library_Objects_part_6.zip.

Other than that, I'm afraid my only real thought is whether you've purged all your .CDP files before restarting CFS2, rather than just that particular one ...
hope that helps,
Ro

does anyone have this problem also?, since I had a hard disk crash, two years ago some of my FSDS scenery files are gone, but I thing I still have the scasm files, I will seek for it and compile it to BGL with new object id

I think that's a stock texture

Hi guys,

Sorry but I was engaged elswhere and away from the old compuer for a while.

Lets see,

Hi Dick. Thanks. Turns out that all three of those texture files are present in my SCENEDB\inf\texture folder.

Hi Wolfi. Thanks. Please don't spend too much time on it. But, it would indeed be nice to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, huh? And as you say it would also be interesting to see if a new object id solves whatever is going on. ;)

Ro, I appreciate the info with regard to that error message. I will try giving your suggestion of dumping all cdp files a try. It can't hurt- I hope. ;)
