Need Reliable V1

V1 no tags

Just D/L'd the V1 flying bomb uploaded by NMG in the CFS A/C II archive. I can add it as an A/C in MB but it does not have tags unless I choose a squadron callsign. Shouldn't it come up as V1 if "no name" is chosen?
 
As a flying aircraft no. It should show a name if you target it with the box and have Display Stat Messages on.
 
Anyone know where I can get a V1 that can be set in MB to spawn, head towards the target then be set to drop once it gets there. I've tried the V1 in the CFS2/Aircraft/ArchiveII but it wont work correctly. It keeps falling out of the sky and crashing about 10 miles after it spawns but its' 2nd waypoint is 22 miles away.

After plotting their waypoints with speed and altitude in MB they fall to the ground way short (10 miles after spawning) of waypoint 2 only 22 miles away. Also, at least 2 of the models from Simviation begin dogfight maneuvers once you get close to them. Not sure why this happens. It may be because they are designed as planes and not just weapons. Model would have to fly like a long range rocket but be spawnable like a plane or vehicle. Maybe the expert model builders here can look into building a V1 that will fly straight to the last waypoint then drop out of the sky the way the real ones did. My level of modifying planes falls way too short of such a project. Until then my new Gloster Meteors will have to stay grounded at Manston LOL. Thanks for you help guys. Hopefully someone can get something working soon.

Here are some ideas. A lot of it will depend upon your capabilities as an AIR file editor, but I think you can handle it.

~ Any aircraft will dogfight if it's set up as a fighter in the DP file. Change the [Misc] section from:

unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=X
.......

To


[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=2
category=2
allegiance=X

And see if it helps to make it a level bomber...

The second item - flight duration - is a little trickier. I'm thinking that the fuel amount is insufficient to allow a long flight, and the Buzz Bomb is running out of gas halfway.

You can increase the fuel quantity with Air Wrench or AirEdit, but then there's the added weight to deal with... Would it be cheating to lower the weight of fuel by half to allow doubling of the onboard propellant ?

So I developed a long-flight V-1 for your evaluation [and anyone else who might want to play with it], attached below.

It is derived from an unknown French Author, file name
V1_modifie.zip; If the originating author would like to step forward, I will be happy to credit him for the original build. I can't remember where I found it years ago, but it works.

I tweaked the AIR, DP, CFG, and made it a "flyable" add-in, but did not include a panel. There's even a test mission.

Please - try this V-1 and see how it works.

I tried this one stock but if you modded the files I will certainly give it a try. I also thought that maybe writing it as a fighter but taking the pitch, yaw and roll scalers down to 0.00 it might make it fly level and straight, then doing 3 versions with limited fuel for 15, 20 and 25 miles. I'll let you know how I make out. It might be some time before I know because we're gearing up for our annual HUGE Halloween party at my home to benefit the local Human Society so right now zombies and gore are priority LOL

In the test mission included, I have [3] V-1s at 10,000ft over Calais, headed for Hawkinge. They fly straight and level, lose some altitude, bank to Port, and dive in. You are flying a Hurricane IIB.

Nothing special, but it will give you a good basis to tweak from.

I could not get the Test mission to open in MB In the test mission "Intercept those V-1s !" all the V-1's glided way past the target. But I found if you change the min speed in the config to 0kts, eliminate the attack and ditch waypoints then make a 4000ft/49knts waypoint 0.5 miles from the target and call for it to bail out it hits the center of your target area. Either way you got it working!!!! Thanks again!!
 
OK Wait, cant find "number of exits" in the CFG or AIR files. So how do I keep the parachute from showing up when the V-1 "bails out"?

Add this to the DP file to get rid of the chute at bailout:

Just make sure the last waypoint is about 4000Ft at 49kts and make it bail out. V-1 will plummet like the engine cut off as the real ones did.

By the way...did some checking and the real V1's only flew at an average of 4000ft.

No worries - that's usually a symptom of "Overactive MoI" in the AIR file.

Try the one attached below - I cut all 3 axis by half, and it seems to be better. We can keep going until it flies the way you want !

New AIR file works great. No more loop-de-loops after it's shot. V1 goes kablooey (Aif Force technical term for explosion LOL) and drops out of the sky. I did modify one thing in the DP thinking it would help before the modded AIR file. I changed the engine hit/damage to 20 as listed below:

After all it's just a primitive pulse jet and one hole would ruin it. Still cant get rid of the chute after bail or shot down. I'm sure alot of people would like to have this for missions.

Add-Ons

I decided to hunt thru my files and see if other V-1 skins could be adapted to this flight model... This works well.

Please swap out the existing MDL and [Texture] files for these and let me know what you think.

I'll make the change to a more vulnerable engine as soon as I scatter off this page !
