New Britain revisited by UncleTgt!

WIP - reworking Rabaul to fit Rhumbas mesh

After I had finished my Carolines project, I was G2K'd out.
:isadizzy:

Whilst I was trying to decide what area to tackle next (& was leaning towards the Sakishima group),Maskrider announced he had starting work on making the Solomons chain "Rhumba mesh" compliant:applause::jump::applause:.

So I though I would try to help out by updating New Britain & the islands at the northern end.

Progress so far...

Rabaul/ Eastern New Britain, Duke of York islands complete, & Rabaul airfields reworked or created, as approriate.
Still to do - gsl work for the airbases & Rabaul area in general (I tend to do this last of all)
Next steps, put FSSC away & break out G2K again, & work on extending west across New Britain, then back to redo New Ireland...

At this stage, just a couple of overhead shots to keep people interested. Compare the stock scenery to this ...

UncleTgt,

Since you've only gotten one response, allow me to pass along my appreciation for the efforts of both you and Chris Westervelt (MaskRider) to undertake this revamping of the Pacific in order to make it fit Rhumpaflappy's mesh. I can understand how such efforts burn you out, I'm still dealing with that myself. Given your reputation, I'm sure the results from both of you will be worth waiting for.

Carry on! :salute:

I too wish to say thank you for your generosity and hard work to get this accomplished. As I am looking in from the outside I can only imagine the monumental task this work is. Thank you both again UncleTgt and MR. :salute:

:USA-flag:

Count me in for the thanks. Looks like I have to redo my ports and missions for Rabaul. No problem I had to do the same thing for Truk after you redid it.

Awesome, UT! Marvelous!

Can't wait to do aerial combat over that remote and magnificent corner of the PTO!

Thank you all for your encouragement.

Now whilst I'm waiting for these uber-large scenery bgls to compile in G2K, or if I just get tired of drawing coastlines by hand, I go find an aircraft to skin...

Seeing the B24 guy has fixed the LOD textures for the D3A Val (thanks!:salute:), I revisited the Val. Rather than just update my previous effots to work with the new mdl, I thought I'd do some land-based a/c first.

These are highly speculative schemes, all that is known for definite is the a/c code & that they were painted green...

Gorgeous coastlines! Wow!

Skins look great, like they've been rode hard and put away wet!

:salute:

Beautiful work UncleTgt! :applause: :icon29:

Here are a couple of shots of Lakunai taken in 1944, one looking northwest and the other southeast. Note the ash from the 1937 eruption of Mount Vulcan.

Looking good UncleTgt!

Glad I could fix the Val for you. It's is an adventure when you get inside some of the MS aircraft.

You can really tell that it was a rush job to get CFS2 released.

But, then fixing it is half the fun. (I think):mixedsmi:

B24Guy

Some more progress improving landclass & waterclass for the Northern coast of New Britain. I'm as far west as Cape Hoskins, so some more yet to do.:running:

UncleTgt,

Your progress is truly outstanding! Great work for all those involved! :salute:

Last one of the North coast for a while, I can hear Gasmata calling ...:icon_eek: (that's the south side of New Britain, but you all knew that already, didn't you?):monkies:

The Talasea Peninsula looks absolutely fantastic UT! Outstanding!

Have fun in Gasmata! And then onto the Arawe Islands area? That should be challenging!

BTW, could you snap a closer-up screenie of Cape Hoskins just for giggles?
