The ETO is Warming Up

It looks like the ETO is warming up these days. Considering that many have been fighting in the Pacific in CFS2 for more years than the war lasted it not shocking. In the last couple of weeks since I've been back around we've got Sub Pens and Light Houses and now with Canion's new Buildings and SdKfz-251. It's great to see the Middle Child hasn't fallen to the wayside. If things continue to go well I'll have my first upload in a long time ready to go in a week or two. The first installation in my ETO AA & AFV project(s). We've got to have something to protect all of this wunderbar infrastucture that's rolled out!

The first package will be a MG-42 and two man crew set up for AA Duty and 4 Versions of the Flak38. Early War No Shields, Early War With Shields, and the same for the later war. After that I'm planing on doing it's 4 Barreled Brother, the Flakvierling 38. /which despite having 4 weapons on it is a much more simple and straight forward mount. A few teasers before I run back to GMax Land.

Pen32Win,

You make 'em, I'll use 'em. This is outstanding! :ernae:

Hi Pen,
Any chance that the crew figures for the AA set can be repainted for service with the Afrika Korps, or would it be better to dress them in desert gear and give them a different object dp name so that they could exist in an MTO install alongside the one you have made.
Great looking work....very much looking forward to it!

Jagd, considering your handle and the last picture you posted over in the ABTF thread I don't think you've got to worry, Typhoon Willie on the other hand....

Big progress today, they live in CFS2. LOD's working well. Despite the LOD_100 mdl being over 4000 polys the LOD_10 is just a hair over 1000. By the time you get 100m's from it your down to LOD_30, LOD_10 kicks in about 175. So unless you stack about 30 of them in a 100m square area they should be just fine.... The 40mm Bofor's LOD_10 was about 950. They still have to be put to a good test, which I can't do right now......

I hope to have the parts for my PC this week and then I'll be able to fly again. Right now all I can do is slew around with the K/B. Nice to look at but not much of a test....

All I need is some textures Ravenna. At the least a very good front color shot of an AK Uniform to convert into a texture.

The color below is what I'll base the Gun on.

Ravenna,

Scratch the color chip thing. I went ahead and did one in Sandgrau as the base with a touch of Dark Panzer Yellow and Afrika Mustard.

On the Troops, I like the one in the middle. I think I can do it.

Ravenna,

How about this?........DAK Flak 38...

If you like it I'll do the other 4 LOD's and the Shielded Version....

Just for you Desert Rats.

Don't slow down now.....

Pen - You just busting those out.... Nice work....

There seems to be a secret... in the works.... Hmmmm some Radar Towers perhaps.....

More to come soon...

Keep up the good work!:ernae:

FLAK 38

Pen's late model FLAK 38 somewhere in Normandy.

Frame rate hit with these new AA pieces is non-existant. You can pile a bunch of them into your scenery and have a great time. Detail is exquisite.

I think that we'll soon have another mandatory scenery addon for the senior sim.

Pen,
That looks spot on. Thanks so much. I'll have to do some research on German AA in the Med. It would be interesting to know which pieces were used and when.
Great work!

I better be going and warm up my Thyphie. It´s already loaded with rockets! Falaise pocket?

Thanks Gents;

Ravenna, I know the Flak 38 was there but I'm not sure about the Flakvierling 38. Also the 37mm Flak 37 was probably there. The 37mm Flak 43 would have been too late to see service in the DAK. We all know the 88mm Flak 18 was there. So the only real question is on the Flakvierling 38.

Steve, glad to hear you liked the RADAR stuff and I'm looking forward to see your next works. Ain't this fun?? LOL

Jagd, that's great news on the FPS. I was a little concerned because of the high number of polys in the LOD_80 & 100 model. The LOD_100 was at 4316, which is just a couple hundred shy of the LCI-351G Class I did. But then, there was no crew on the ship and human bodies eat up a lot of polys, everything's a curve... The two crew members are 672 polys alone, and they're pretty simple reproductions.

Well I spent the greater part of the day updating our Pony Express Website, or trying to. Got stuck and am now waiting on more stuff to finish it up. So I got some unexprected time to work on the Flak 38 Series some more. I did some more work on the DAK Uniform trextures and think they look better now. That and the DAK Shielded version.

Beta is underway, I'll post them as soon as they Green Light me. Then I'm going to get myself back in the air and get a new ETO install built. My old one from years ago is a mess and is very slugish even when I'm just slewing about.

Discus, the reason I'm doing these is for Targets!!! I need something interesting to shoot at. LOL And what better to shoot at ground targets than a Tiffie?

Rav, here's the newest on the DAK Version;

Big Trouble...

... Over Normandy!

Apparently Pen has instructed his "Luftverteidigungtruppen" well on the proper deployment and employment of the FLAK 38 and MG 42.
