For all of you DD'oholics, the Gearing Class was a logical extension (literally) of the Sumner Class. The longer hull was used to increase bunkerage to improve range and endurance.
A late war addition to the US Navy, the class had representation off of Okinawa and the Home Islands and a few were present at the end of the war in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty. Reportadly, none were sunk in WW II.
