New to this sim...

I finally got rid of FSX. It was taking up too much space and just didn't play well on my laptop. I will be buying FS2004 soon, and I was wondering what are the best add-ons for it out there? Free- or payware, doesn't matter. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dangit - Rick was a little faster than me!
I can't imagine a better starting point than this special thread.

Welcome to the better sim, James! :wiggle: (SCNR...)

Cheers,
Markus.

thanks...played with it some on a friend's PC the other day, and the one thing that disappointed me was the water. After FSX, it is somewhat lacking. Has anyone done some textures or something to improve this?

There's been a lot of water textures done, just a matter of trying them. I use Bill Lyons' water from Golden Hawaii. It's an old file but works for my older vid card.

Welcome to the Senior Flight Sim.

Don't forget HDE clouds by Pablo Diaz and some better ground textures by Gyula Kalcsó (photoveg.zip) to start off with. For water I like Vilk's Water (Vater.zip) with Lyons oceanheight field. I think it has the smallest wave size and the best hiding of repeating sections I've found. But this is getting into a thread already mentioned.
