Nieuport 17

how do I get this thing in the air?

I know rotary engines are tricky to fly,and have lots of pull to the right ,mostly on takeoff but even with settings at easy ,full right rudder and aileron it vers sharply right and I had to disable crashes and bounce it in the air after going in circles.
I have CH controllers which I calabrate before every flight but can't make a normal takeoff no matter how hard I try.
Once in the air although very touchy ( you have to fly it every second and I'd say this is normal)I can fly it reasonably well and even land it ,but I have to have it set on slowest speed ,otherwise it's uncontrolable.
Maybe it's my controlers which are a number of years old ,I only know I can't make a decent takeoff in this beautiful plane.

A little tricky to fly at first. Use as little power as you can, about 1000 for take off and cruising. Add power slowly, when it starts to veer lift off and straighten out. Made a 30mi flight this morning in a 16knt crosswind from the left, was able to fly hands off most of the way, as the engine torque makes it want to bank left all the time. Glad you found the sound pack Michel.

I was finally able to get into the Upload FTP and sent the textures for the Italian Macchi-built Nieuport 17 up.

I worked up a new prop helice.

For FS9, not FSX, wish it did work in FSX. I would attach it here, but SOH formats the .bmp image to a .jpg image, impossible to save with the Alpha

I haven't posted any shots of the underbelly yet. Glad you blokes are liking the download. I sure am loving the airplane. Will have a short YouTube video with Randy's sound shortly.

I like this one

I have a couple questions though--

-is there a way I can get a compass to display so I can check my direction? I tried a couple of the keyboard shortcuts, is there a way I can get some kind of compass to look at?

-the "check fuel" line in front of me is bright pink rather than brown for some reason. What could be causing that?

When you want to know which drection you are flying either watch the position of the sun (flying above the battlefields the sun in the South at noon.) or use Shift-Z and, among other things, you will have your heading displayed at the top of the screen.

About the colour of the the fuel; it should get its 'yellowish' colour from the texture 'fuel.bmp' however it obviously doesn't. I'm afraid that's a problem I didn't noticed while testing.

Cheers,
Huub

I love these cockpits, even I can monitor all instruments at the same time ;)

Wouldn't that be easy to correct Huub?

Real men don't need instruments! :icon_lol:

Don't know Cazzie. It's something in the model as the texture file is there, but it just doesn't show. The oil reservoit at the left side of the cockpit works the same, but odd enough that one works without problems.
As it is linked to the model it is definitely somthing only Michel can solve.

Cheers,
Huub

I too am seeing the pink fuel line. My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT using the 185.85 drivers. Here's a pic of the pink fuel line. Hope this helps.

Seeing the quality of this bird I can't wait for the G-1! Glad I did some bases for the G-1!

Hello gentlemen,
How to change the color of the fuel level:
With dxtbmp, open fuel.bmp from the texture folder, save it as bmp image 24 bits.
With Mspaint, open fuel.bmp, change the color as you want and save it in bmp format.
With dxtbmp, open fuel.bmp and save it as an extended image with DXT3 option and that's done. Simply copy fuel.bmp from texture folder then past in each other texture folder (texture.1, texture.2 etc...)
Sorry for the inconvenient.
Best regards, Michel.
Ps: Cees, this week was a very very busy week but things are going on, the G1 grows up day after day! Huub is working hard with the texture cause I had to redo the mapping of the fuselage. Poor Huub...
Some news s**n in the right post.
Michel.
