I think I know the site you are referring to Gera. It is associated with another forum site where I used to post regularly until the owner decided to remove my GOF signature and told me the site was not a democracy.

On both sites the members, particularly the Mods can be a little thin skinned. For this reason I no longer post there.

SOH and FSVC are the only sites I now post on.

Keep up the good work SOH.

This place really feels like home. Members are friendly, mature dudes and dudettes (there are young ones too - that are very mature in nature!), very professional; I don't know most of them (I know one), I feel like I am a part of a big family!, and a very fun place to be.

Kinda like a home away from work...

I love visiting SOH on my smoke breaks!

There is one other site that is in some ways remarkably like SOH and that is Mycockpits.org If you are into cockpit building, do yourself a favor and check them out. Just as SOH has many of the deans of modeling, mycockpit has many of the top cockpit builders helping others.

SOH may not have 50,000 members but we do have the communities best and most used forums. We appreciate that many of the top designers call SOH home and come to visit daily.

We are not in competition with any site, we are here to serve ALL the community. We have no premium accounts and allow every member the same features from Avatars, Personal Pictures, Personal Photo albums to attachments. We support social groups, private messaging and personalized profiles for all users. With special access we allow all members to upload add-ons as long as they don't violate copyrights or contain pornography.

We also allow hot linking as long as the member is registered and doesn't spam with multiple threads.

All we ask is for donations to pay the NOC to house our servers, the NOC for technical help and to pay for the bandwidth we use. Once every few years we also ask for donations to upgrade servers and our bandwidth pipeline so pages continue to load quickly and files download fast.

SOH for me is the best place to go for FS news (payware & freeware) direct from developers and simmers. Also opinions and help from a well informed community that all loves the same thing.

part of that reason is because we are not "mods& admin"
first, we are members and enthusiasts
its our hobby also, we only put hats on
when it gets unruly
we love the new addons just the same as anyone else
thats what this site is based on
all staff are members we just have an extra job to do

This sums it up so nicely. Unlike so many other sites who claim to be the friendliest hangout for simmers but are ruled by admins. and mods. that I can only describe as forum nazis who feel it necessary to post in every single thread. Sadly those megalomaniacs don't know what they're talking about half of the time and if you dare to query their improvised, enlightened replies, you're bound to get a rap over the knuckles.

In the short time I have been here, all of my tedious newbie question have been answered with patience and sincerity. I learn more here at SOH in two weeks than I used to learn in two years searching for answers in various other forums and hope that perhaps one day I might contribute in one way or another.
