Okay,

I just flew along off shore at 100 feet altitude along Normandy in FSX and FS2004.
I know FSX scenery doesn't work in CFS2, but it was an excellent rendering.
FS2004 is good also, better than CFS2 but not as good as FSX.

Will FS2004 scenery work for CFS2 at Normandy?

Just downloaded every D-Day skin I could find in our SOH library preparing to have the properly dressed aircraft for the big day.

Also got the Hadrin and Horsa gliders.

Just finished putting sand on Utah Beach with FSSC.
It isn't perfect, but better than it was.

Rami,
How do I get rid of all of the CFS1 ships and balloons just off of Utah and at Omaha Beaches?
For the life of me I cannot remember what GSL/Layout they are in, nor which mission files call for them.....:banghead:

My memory just ain't what it used to be.:pop4:

Reply...

Devildog73,

Is this in the GSL file, or is it static scenery?

Here is what I have done so far:

I'm now going to start on Omaha Beach and get some sand laid down in front of the cliffs.

DD,
I really like the look of this, particularly what you've done using FSSC.

As part of our WWI Flanders scenery B24Guy did an enlarged and flatter version f the AF gun pits. If they are of any use to you I would be happy to send you the files.

Absolutely! Send away....
I believe my email is in my profile. I will check to be sure. If not I will enter it.

Thank you.

Here is Omaha Beach thus far and Sainte-Mere-Eglise.

I have NO IDEA why my tree textures are not showing up in the gsl file. :banghead:

I will try removing them from the gsl and placing them as layout objects...

While I'm thinking about Omaha Beach, a question for you actual scenery folks....

I've flown over Omaha Beach in FS2004 and FSX.
I've Google Earth "driven" around wherever it had the blue drive-arounds.
Those cliffs along the beach were straight drops, nothing like the current mesh offerings for CFS2.
Is it possible to take the flattens from the channel water to just short of the highest point of the land above and make the flatten 0 meters from water to cliff?
Right now, to get my sand beach texture to show, I've had to make it a 1m altitude. Even then, it flickers where the landclass goes above it.
When I leave the flatten at zero meters and place a sand polygon inside it the sand does not show in MB.

Hi DD,

Did you get my email with St-Mere-Eglise I sent last week?

Ground2K is the way to go for making roads, rivers and beaches - you don't have to use flattens. It's a bit finicky but not too hard to use.

You will have to experiment with the beach flatten. CFS2 often doesn't place the change in elevation exactly where you want it.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin,
No, last week I was camping in the deep woods with NO cellphone signals nor WiFi.....
I just checked for your email since I have you in my contacts but nothing.
Wonder what happened to it?

OOPS!

See my reply to your email.......LOL
Thanks,
Lee

One thing is for sure,... While awaiting the arrival of my new joystick I will have time to read up on and tryout Ground2K, FSSC (which I am much more familiar with), making GSL, and blending scenery, (though from what I already read, that looks extremely challenging to me).

Sure would be nice to have a fully detailed Normandy scenery with all of the invasion fleet .....

CrisGer,

That's exactly what I am working on.

I am using the Atlantic Wall bunkers once I get the beaches and cliffs done to my satisfaction. (Though I know nothing about changing mesh other than what I can do in FSSC).
I have FS2000 files on my computer and if I can find the French coast of the Channel I will see if they do what I am looking for.

I am building the villages of the Normandy area left off by M$ and not already built by Rami and others.

I intend to use predominately Stuart's ships where possible, and AF landing craft.

I will be "dressing" aircraft in D-Day costume.

I am NOT a scenery guru, not even a novice at it, so it is taking lots of painstaking time for me to work on the scenery.

Once I get it done, I will begin the addition of the ships.
Once those are in, I will begin writing the missions for the campaign, starting the night of June 5 with paratroopers and gliders.

Maybe by Christmas. Earlier if somebody steps in to help with portions of the project.

UncleTgt, Captain Kurt,

Any chance I can get you to look into the following 28 aircraft used above the invasion forces the first two weeks of June, 1944 and see that we have appropriate work clothing for day, evening, and night wear for them?

I hate seeing folks inappropriately dressed in evening formal wear on the beach (unless they are getting married).

Thanks in advance,

Looks like I am also going to make some Operation Tongo missions with Overlord.

I have a Horsa and a Hadrian in gliders.
Is there a Hamilcar glider for CFS2 anyone knows about?
From the air I suppose a Japanese 95 tank will suffice for a British Tetrarch Light Tank if I change its allegiance in the DP.

Stuart and MaxStuka,

I will go through this list and see if there are appropriate ships available for D-Day, but the two of you are probably the most knowledgeable ship Gurus in the SOH basement.

Would you be so kind as to look over the list and perhaps fill in the missing ships?

https://www.dday-overlord.com/en/material/warships

Many of the ships were used on D-Day before they made the move to the British Pacific Fleet.
I have ALL of those.

Thanks in advance,

Devildog
