ORBX Tipella Is Out!

Very cool place and scenery! Managed to get the Goose in and out of the runway and also have a saved flight with her perched up the ramp in the hangar. Also got my Flight1 PC-12 in and out for some faster transfers. Wonderful location.

Scenery gave me a chance to brush up on my choppers!

Cool video Ted. :applause: I should get my PNW this week (few days) my B'day is the 11th of July; maybe I'll get it then. Once installed, I will try to emulate what you did. You really should consider doing a video of Randy's M*A*S*H like the real one's intro with the theme song and roll credits; The Bell 47 would would fit perfect.

I loved that video !
However, I would have two small remark:
- in some sequences, there is a very big drop of FPS. Was it in your sim or was it simply a problem with my computer and Youtube ? If it's on your side, you might want to check your video card settings. Since I noticed the biggest FPS impact when the dust was around upon landing, I suggest you to try to disable your "Transparency AntiAliasing", and see if the impact is still so dramatic. If it was indeed a problem from my computer and youtube, then nevermind !

- upon landing, I noticed your cockpit was shaking. This shaking effect is caused by AccuFeel, isn't it ? If yes, then you might want to set the stall angle slider up to the maximum for your choppers.

Thanks for the videos you've been posting :ernae:

I noticed that when playing videos on youtube. Sometimes it stutters and then not, especially when streaming. My DSL is on the low side, so it doesn't like youtube. It seems ok when I just played this video.

For some reason this chopper is the only one that does the shaking, none of the others do that. I do have AccuFeel v.2, but thought that choppers weren't supported. I will have to check that out.

By the way Gordon thanks everyone for commenting on his CBB7 scenery. His grateful to provide this excellent ORBX scenery freeware! "G" thanks, much appreciate your work! -TuFun

I have finally installed this scenery.
It looks fantastic, it's really the kind of scenery I love. When you sit on the ground, you don't have any feeling of emptiness when you look around. It's dense.
But boy, talk about a FPS impact :blind: But it's ok, because indeed my computer is a bit old (i7 960@3,6GHz and GTX480), and all the scenery options were activated.
Sitting on the runway, when looking north it's still quite ok, 20 FPS average (I'm normally locked at 30).
But looking at the south part of the scenery (the part in the water), the FPS crawl down to the 10's.

I have now deactivated all he "fancy" options: dense grass, dense trees, and NatureFlow. I'll have to relaunch the sim to check how it look like.

The tests with fancy options (the one they give you warnings about performance, disabled by default) removed, the performances were much better. I'm back to 30 FPS locked on the runway, looking north.
Looking south, I'm still in the 15 FPS area, not fluid but flyable. I don't know what is hurting the FPS so much around that water ramp...
Anyways, I took the opportunity to take an old friend out of the hangar :)

Running an AMD rig probably not the best to run FSX with all the goodies. AMD 965 BE @ 3.8 GHz and ATI 5850 graphics card, so basically getting 10 ~ 20 on this scenery. Fraps knocks that down a few more fps.

Hey Daube, it was Accusim that was causing the jitters, deactivated Accusim on my choppers.

You don't need to deactivate AccuFeel completely. I think it's enough to put the AOA slider to the max to disable the shaking effect. Or is it not ?

Ops... meant to say AccuFeel not Accusim. I just deactivate choppers only in the AccuFeel menu.

From A2A AccuFeel v.2 info...

Works with almost all FSX aircraft. Tested with both default and over forty 3rd party aircraft (helicopters not supported).

Hi TuFun:

Thanks for more videos and screenies... great fun ! :applause:

BTW: I noticed your hardware platform, and thought I'd share some insights. :iidea:

I also use a AMD 965 Phenom II-X4 Black Edition at 3.8 GHz CPU on a stock air cooler.

Previously I ran this with the embedded AMD/ATI HD3300 Graphics on my present ASUS motherboard with 8 GB DDR-3 1600 MHz system RAM in conjunction with a PCIe Radeon HD-3450 (not in Crossfire mode... just wanted to drive all 3 of my big old CRT very fine dot-pitch graphics monitors as desktop extensions.)

I was able to manage display of OrbX FTX sceneries at 20 FPS locked with "Direct3D antilag v1.01" in DX-9 mode on both Win-XP and Win-7 with all FSX display sliders at max except autogen and LOD Radius at 3/4 (and minimal, if any, AI Traffic).

http://www.kegetys.fi/dl.php/d3d_antilag101.zip

The Memory Bandwidth of the 2 nearly identical graphics chip sets on the above cards was approximately 6.8 GB/sec. each (yep: AMD's quad-core CPU partially made up for a pitiful GPU !).

I decided to wait for the next break-through in Intel CPU technology which would allow 5 GHz or (close to it) on a stock air cooler (yeah, I know... but a guy can dream, no ? :icon_lol:).

So to get a more satisfying visual quality and a bump in performance for FSX while waiting for Intel to eventually make another break-through, I bought the AMD Radeon HD-7970 with 3-GB VRAM.

Now, on the basis of that GPU hardware upgrade alone, with the same CPU, MOBO, and RAM, I manage to display OrbX FTX sceneries at 30 FPS locked in DX-10 'preview' mode (with Steve Parsons' DX-10 "fixes") on Win-7 64-bit, with all FSX display sliders at max (except autogen and LOD Radius at 3/4 in only the most scenery dense areas) ...and max AI Traffic when desired).

The Memory Bandwidth of the AMD Radeon HD-7970 cards is approximately 264 GB/sec.

FYI: A comparison of the AMD Radeon HD-5850 and the AMD Radeon HD-7970 cards:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=614&card2=663

My jump in performance has IMHO been achieved primarily via the GPU upgrade (...and a carefully tweaked FSX.Cfg file without any autogen FSX.Cfg attenuation tweaks) "in spite of" recently being so busy that I've only maintained a 'somewhat' optimized OS and hardware driver setup, with all (run-time) FSX data loading from the same non-RAID, non-defragged, 7200 RPM SATA-II mechanical hard drive ! :icon_eek:

Hope this info might prove to be a helpful and cost-effective option to consider, as you bring us even more of your entertaining videos and screenies in the future.

PS
:
Very cool motorboat; would you tell us where that one is from ?

Thanks again ! :)

Hi Daube:

Excellent screenshots; I really like the graphical effects in those pics! :icon_eek:

Would you be so kind as to tell us: what video card did you use ?

Also, was post-processing of images applied, and/or was SweetFx used to generate the original images ? :ques:

Thanks for sharing your flight ...and your insight !

Wonderful scenery - Wonderful videos

Thanks Gordon and thanks shipmates for the great videos. Flight sim has rocked me for almost 30 years. My best pastime.! I also found a mama duck and her brood swimming around my floater at the cabin docks.

And thanks for the advice! Ted "TuFun"

Hi Ted:

Thanks for the link ! :salute:

Gonna' do some sight seeing now; (if distant landscape visibility drops due to fog, I'll just admire the contour intervals of the beauty on deck !) :icon_eek:
