The good folk over at SimHQ have managed to acquire an early build of neoqb's upcoming World War 1 simulation; Rise of Flight.

I thought some here would find their preview of the sim an interesting read:

I enjoyed the section on offline play especially the campaign. :kilroy:

Looks pretty though.

(I love sim hq and in no way am slamming the reviewer or the site...)

Yes, the in-depth coverage of the offline component was very impressive. As was the coverage of the rest of the game, we know so much more about it than we did before.

And definitely very pretty.

All of the reservations I had in regard to Rise of Flight have been satisfied, save one. The planes, the scenery and terrain, lighting and shading, etc, all very beautiful and extremely realistic from what I've seen so far. The only thing that keeps nagging at me is the fact that you must log on to their website even in single player mode. It's not a given that I'm going to have an internet connection in six months the way things are looking. What becomes of the game if no connection is available. Will I have to put it on a shelf until one becomes available?
I'm not knocking the project at all, and will probably purchase it anyway, regardless of my one reservation, because I love WWI flight sims.
Just my 3.4 cents (inflation)

Almost too shiny...

not really, had to complain about something. :d

The bit that impressed me most were the damage models and the bit about damage still taking place 30 seconds after a crash. That's going to be awesome (and nerve-wracking) to see on one own machine whilst in flight.

Very unbiased preview and interesting reading. A first-hand information from the user's point of view after all that speculation floating around on the internet.

I don't know.. the 'fish-eye' look of the panning during the dogfight kinda made me nauseated. Other than that, it looks nice and hopefully will someday make it to print.

Anyone notice how low the sound of the guns are??? So stop complaining that OFF's are too low as well. You're in an open cockpit. Enjoy the sound of wind around you. ;)

Could of put a pilot in the seat... lets see some blood.............................

It looks great...put I want to know more about the single-player aspect...I'm not a MP kinda guy. Regardless, like most of you, I'll probably get it anyway to support the WWI genre.

James, it was indicated that the fish-eye look maybe a wrong Field Of Vision because the previewer used mouse panning (no TrackIR). Other than that in the preview videos made by neoqb there was always a normal FOV (they always use TrackIR).

Well, the recommended system requirements pretty much knock me out of the picture :frown:...oh well...

Sure looks purdy though...and the damage modeling looks really excellent! :applause:
Doubt it will even remotely come close to the single player immersion that BHH offers...and what is with the required online connection for offline sp player? Is it some sort of copy protection that has driven that move?

Anyways, nice to see another flight sim being made and I'd fully support the genre if I think it is going to work for my system.

I would love to get excited about it..Really I would...but TWO flyable aircraft?

I think it is an anti piracy safeguard, but they could issue a key code for each copy, instead of requiring you to log in to play SP. That's the only bad gripe I have with the whole thing.

Still a lot of questions than answers, but I do understand its early in dev..

I just hope it dosen't sputter out, WW1 and sims in general are hard sells these days.

I still can't figure out why the developer named it "Rise of Flight." Seems odd for a WWI/Western Front simulation. Perhaps its tied to an idiomatic Russian phrase that doesn't translate well. Obviously, if it's a decent game, no one will care.

I'm in favour of RoF. My machine will not run it though according to the article. I am so happy to have Between Heaven and Hell. I'm a lucky boy.

Blimey, is this right? I haven't seen the preview (yet) but if this is true re the need to be online to play it at all , then they can keep it.
I have a reason i don't play online - anything could be going on in the background these days, and so for me, this is a sim I won't be playing.
I knew it had multiplay bias, but this is ridiculous- if true.

EDIT - Had quick look at the preview . Where is it said that you had to be online to play this game in single play? I didn't see any evidence to suggest
that this is mandatory.
