P3D/P4D screenshots redux...oops!

Momma, I'm Coming Home!

I've decided to take part in the HeliFest 2 helicopter event being hosted over at FS.com.

I'll be flying a Virtavia Westland Merlin/Cormorant in P3D v4.5

She'll be wearing a Canadian Forces SAR scheme while traveling back home from Mexico where it has been carrying out humanitarian SAR efforts for the Mexican Government. It might take a while 'cus it looks like we are going the pretty way back to Vancouver!

If anyone is interested in following the progress (or even grabbing a helo and joining the fun) the event thread can be found here: https://www.flightsim.com/forums/topic/63117-helifest-2-the-great-aerial-rally/#comment-330204

It has been a few years (11!) since he died. Benoit was a very nice person, very helpful and always honest in his verdict. Fond memories. Too young. He is missed. A fitting farewell, this repaint. He would have liked it.

A couple of times a week I get on the SOH JoinFS MP server with a good friend of mine and fellow SOH member Rob (srgalahad) and we fly around for a couple of hours while we chat on the SOH TeamSpeak 3 voice server. We have just completed a tour of the Oregon and Idaho 'soft' airfields in Alphasim Lysanders (Rob in FSX, me in P3D v4.5) and had a great time. I came up with new flight plan and now we are flying a 76 leg circular tour of the Mediterranean coastline in GA twin aircraft (for the moment we may change if we get bored!). We started at Gibraltar and are flying in a clock-wise direction. We flew a couple of legs last night across southern Spain but the shots below are from the last leg from the mainland to the island of Ibiza. We took off at dawn (at least my sim was set at dawn I don't know about Rob) but what amazed me about this flight and the reason I started to grab screenshots was how varied the cloud-scapes were and how much they switched around during the flight. I was running Active Sky for P3D real weather and I also run Active Sky Cloud Art to enhance the cloud visuals.

This was after we had leveled out at cruise altitude and had broken through the overcast over the starting airport.

This was the low overcast and puffy stuff that can be seen away in the distance in the first shot. I'm glad we are between the layers at the moment.

MP_Med_2.png

As we crossed from land to sea the weather changed dramatically and a thick sea fog enveloped us. It was like a grey blanket had been dropped over the windshield and at times I lost sight of Rob completely, all I could see were his red labels.

MP_Med_3.png

A few miles further on and the weather changed again, the low fog was still there but now we had high stratus (a mackerel sky) and a few puffies at intermediate levels.

It was like this almost all the way to the destination where we had to sink into the fog again. Thankfully it wasn't too bad and we were able to make a straight in approach to the single runway without having to resort to the ILS running the opposite way.

It was a blast and these are the first 'serious' legs I've put on this now freeware Milviz Baron and I must admit I quite like it (I never flew the default FSX baron because I couldn't stand the low-res VC textures!) It's going to take weeks to complete this trip but it looks like it's going to be fun!
