Special Server Maintenance
Just when you think you have everything running some what better...
You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.
- November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
- November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
- November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
- November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.
If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.
To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

P3D/P4D screenshots redux...oops!

Of my top five FS aircraft of all time, at least 4 were made by Milton.
I remember the first time I saw Milton's Howard 500. Screen shots and a download link were posted on another sim site that I frequented and I remember commenting that it was unwise to post a download link to something that was obviously payware. Yep, it looked like payware quality to me, still does.
And once I got out past the Golden Gate, I found this rusty old relic from FS9 anchored out there. It wasn't here in FSX. Didn't have anything with a functional tailhook, so I switched to a default Seahawk and set it down there. So, this got me to thinking about tailhooks and carriers, something that was high on my to do list in FS9. If there was a carrier, I'd land on it.

Just got this one installed. It's about the newest kerosine burner I like. Does that make me a Ford guy?
Need to work out button assignments on my new joystick. Kind of lost the bubble about 5nm out from NAS Memphis and stalled it out into someone's cow pasture about 20 seconds after I got this screenshot. But we're having brisket for supper.

All I'm gonna say about the landing was that it was ugly and interesting and I wouldn't wish it on anybody. I've got a ways to go to get proficient with it again.
I still have several of my old Gee Bee paints to find. Plus, I've got some I never did finish before I had to quit several years ago.

While trying to decide which Spit I'd like to fly in the upcoming "Spitfire K5054 90th Anniversary Circumnavigation of the UK: May 2026" event I discovered a gem lurking in the SOH file/resource library that I had totally missed when it was first released. I've had a couple of flights in it now and this is one sweet bird!
It's the Rob Richardson Supermarine Seafire Mk 47 for FSX and P3D. I did swap the sounds out for the RA Spit contra-prop sounds as it calls the FSX P51 Racer by default (which obviously doesn't exist in P3D v4.5) and the VC has the typical Rob Richardson half-rate VSI gauge but I have one in my standard warbird pop-up panel so I'm good to go on that. One surprising thing is that the wings actually fold on this bird and I thought 'wing-fold' by default was no longer a thing in P3D. I guess Rob must have custom coded it somehow.
On a similar note Rob also did a very nice Supermarine Spitfire Mk 24 for FSX/P3D that very possibly shares the same basic VC as they look very similar. Both are excellent aircraft and I now have to decide between these, the RA Spits and an A2A/WoP Mk.1 Spit. Decisions, decisions!

Rob (srgalahad) and myself have been flying the deHavilland Canada Chipmunk recently during our evening multiplayer sessions in honour of it's 80th Birthday. Last night's flight was something special as as our current tour of smaller Canadian airports (East to West) took us past an important place in the Chippy's history.
Here we are getting formed up after take-off on a hazy morning in Western Quebec.
The JF Chippy flies so well it is easy to stay in close formation like this.
It's getting really hazy now but thanks to the Chippy's glass top I can still see Rob above and ahead of me!
The special part I mentioned above duly came into sight, the Toronto Downsview Airport, where the deHavilland Canada factory was located and the Chippy was built!
It seemed only fitting that I should perform a Victory/barrel roll over it's birthplace! Memories of the number of times I did barrel roles in a real Chippy came flooding back at this point!
We then turned South for a fly-by of a classic Toronto feature, the CN Tower.
A few miles down the coast we stopped to refuel and as Tillsonburg Airport still has two grass runways left from it's WWII days we opted to use those as the Chippy prefers to land on the grass (even in real life)!
We flew on and landed for the night at Canada's most southern airport on Pelee Island in the middle of Lake Erie. An island I have been to a couple of times as I lived just north of it on the mainland for almost 30 years in Canada's most southern town.

A shot from tonight's MP session on a leg from Thunder Bay to Sioux Lookout, this time in Ansons at dusk over Central Ontario.
Rob and I have been continuing our online tour of smaller Canadian airports and flew the Ansons to the foothills of the Rockies where we decided to swap aircraft for something a bit better suited for going up and over the top. Our birds of choice were ATR 42 series turboprops.
I hope I can clear this ridge just after take-off!

I picked up another new helo the other day and spent some time this afternoon giving her a test flight in P3D. I was wrapping up my usual testing flight plan of short hops around a bunch of New England airports when I spotted this beauty sailing down the Long Island Sound so I had to take a closer look.

I am working on a repaint of the A2A Cessna Skyhawk for edakridge along with a repaint of the HTAI Cessna Skyhawk he also owns. Boomer Aviation flies around Pensacola towing banners advertising different things and the HTAI has a model.banner so he is creating a flight plan to tow banners around Pensacola and Fort Walton. Yesterday I learned how to get the type to follow a path in Adobe Photoshop for the tail of the A2A. This and the HTAI are still works in progress. I love learning new things to use in Photoshop which is an old copy but glad it still works especially in Windows 10.
Just because it's old doesn't mean it can't be used for our purposes. My Photoshop is old too (CS4/PS11) but I flatly refused to join their monthly 'rental' scam where you pay by the month. I had already paid for the stand-alone version so there was no way in hell I was going to pay every month for the same few features I use on a regular basis. I am happy with what I've got and that is already more features than I will ever use!
