P3D vs. non P3D aircraft

@DaveWG - Thanks. I honestly don't know whether it was you or somebody else who'd made the EULA/illegal point - I just read through quickly and noted something in passing to that effect. It seems to come up a lot, so I posted, this being my nit, as noted. But I wasn't trying to call out anyone personally. It isn't aimed at anyone, it's just escaping on the run...

The RealAir Spit flies nicely for me in P3D but I can't get the switches to work. So, yes, it's a checklist issue. I can use it as a CTRL+E aircraft, but that's mostly against my religion. That said, I ought to try installing it again - maybe it'll "take" this time.

Yes, it was me. My use of "illegal" was probably a bit over enthusiastic! :biggrin-new:

I'll have to try the Spit in more detail if I get chance today.

I agree with what you say and I´ve also just started using FSX-SE. (I have P3Dv2.5 and FSX-SE installed. No FSX box) and its also because I, just like you want to be be prepared hehe for the future. I dont see the light so clear as many other P3D fans do. I like my P3D, but its a FSX sibbling and nothing more.
FSX-SE with the dx 10 and the fixer is a very nice sim. I see very little difference between it and P3D. The visuals are a tiny bit better in P3D but besides that, lots of smoke.

So an alternative and not so possitive future prospect could be:
P3Dv3 will most probably mean that nothing FSX or P3Dv2 can be used, so a totally fresh start which can be good if you have the money to do so. No or very little freeware. A lot less addons will be released, because few will make the change to a totally new system. And finally: Can P3D legally continue being for "all" users. Remember that Dovetail has the commercial rights that P3D doesnt have. So how popular can P3D be allowed to be or will they eventually be forced to stop their "public" sale of licences.

It was just thoughts and nothing else.

@donnybalonny - when P3D v2 first came out, it was giving me much better performance than FSX boxed in similar situations. A couple of years in, I feel as though the situation has reversed itself - FSX SE is amazingly smooth, and P3D 2.5 has gotten a little balky, for me at least - between working to cure microstutters, trying to resolve artifacts in SLI, and waiting... waiting... waiting... for decent anti-aliasing, I have to say it's refreshing, for now at least, to step back into FSX and just have things run decently. And as noted, there's the economics, too.

Like you, I miss some of the P3D visuals - the cloud shadows and the volumetric clouds, for example - but I find it's a pretty quick adjustment back to FSX SE after adding some texture improvements.

I thought it was an interesting suggestion in the post above that P3D v3 compatibility issues might have more to do with scenery than with aircraft. Hadn't thought of that one. If so, the divergence from FSX will be a bit slower than what I'd had in mind. Trouble is, the prospect is always there - LM has to think first of all of the needs of its commercial customers and back-compatibility probably isn't as high on their list as it is on ours. So there's that to consider, or at least to worry about in a neurotic sort of way...

Final note for now... I like that I can boot up FSX and not be concerned if I start to entertain myself...

@DaveWG - I'll be interested to hear how you do with the Spit - still wondering if my issues were specific to my 2.4 (or whichever point release it was) install. Will watch this space for your update. Thanks in advance!

I agree 100%

Clickspots seem to be working fine for me. Using P3dv2.5.12946.

Thanks - I have to get that hotfix installed, and then I'll give it a try. Not sure the hotfix itself will make a difference, but might as well compare apples to apples.
