PAD Releases C-130J

Hi, Tim! :ernae:

Would a Req for a fictional J variant First Air be possible.

This request will sure be possible! :d

But I'm afraid that I won't be able to comply with it in a reasonable time.
Too many other aircraft waitin' outside the paint shack yet...

But as I'm not the only one with a subscription to aircraft with a "C" registration, maybe someone else will take over...

Cheers,
Markus.

Would a Req for a fictional J variant First Air be possible. Ive seached high and low for a paint for the First Air C-130 but turn up nothing.

I've looked at a number of photos of the First Air Hercs. Can anyone tell me if the lower portions are grey or subdued bare metal? Nothing I've seen is close up, and where they operate I have no "eyes on the ground" as it were.

Way back in Feb 2002 we did the First Air livery on a stretched H model at the request of a then First Air pilot and the info we were given was that the fuselage was painted white with light grey paint on the belly. The wings and horizontal tail were bare metal.
My design partner is away on a short break in Northern France (tasting this year's Beaujolais !) so I have a couple of days free ...I'll paint up the new J model in First Air livery for our Canadian friends and have it posted by the weekend.

The sound pack I have been using for the Alphasim C-130s is by Mike Hambly and can be found on Flightsim.com. BA_C130.zip. While not as loud or as throbby as what I hear when the H model Hercs of the 179th Air Lift Wing fly over my head, this sound pack is much closer to real than the sounds that came with the PAD Herc. I have no idea what a J model sounds like, so the PAD sound pack may be more accurate to that model. But I will be using the Hambly sound package on the J too....and will be tweaking it to give it more volume, bass and throbbiness (is that a word?).

Nobody has an idea of what this alarm sound in the cockpit is?
Flies fine, just with this stupid alarm going off.
I've clicked everything I can find.
HELP!

Tom

I don't get an alarm sound with the 130J...though I did have an annoying beep beep beep sound from one plane that had to do with the AFD/Nav Radio something along those lines. Can't recall what I was told to do to fix it.

You are correct, First Air is a grey paint on the belly. Hasnt changed since I arrived at YZF. Now im off to watch the C-46 TO:running:.

HELP!

Sounds like there is a problem with the "Ground Handling" sounds that comes with the 130. There are a couple of alarm sounds in that folder which may be what you're hearing.
Open that folder and double-click the wav files and see if one of those are what you are hearing.

If so, could be the ini file is out of whack, or a glitch in the syntax of the gauge call inside the panel.cfg. Even an incompatible version of GaugeSound.dll located in the main Flight Simulator 9 folder.

The first "cure-all" is to load FS9 with the default Cessna at SeaTac. Then switch to the PAD C130J and see if the horn is still blowing. Sometimes, FS9 needs a kick in the pants with the default load.

I use a set of files from Flightsim.com that I found years ago in the FS2000 sound library. Here is the description...

[SIZE=-1]FS2000 Lockheed C-130H Hercules Sound Pack. Intended for use with the C-130 aircraft by Adrian Brausch. Original sounds by Mike Hambly, modified by Adrian Brausch. File 1 of 4.

File links as follows...

http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=40517

http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=40518

http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=40519

http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=40520

I use these for any C-130 that have as well as the KBT P-3 and the E-2 by Rick Sasala. All these aircraft use the [/SIZE] Allison T-56 power plant.

One more thing to get a good simulation of a JATO launch add the catapult gauge from the Carrier Operations Package in a popup window. Just line up on the runway set your flaps, mine are usually set to full, arm the gauge, full power and trip the brakes. You'll get off the ground quicker than a startled cat so be thinking ahead of your bird.

BTW, can anyone do a repaint of VR-55 out of NAS Pt. Mugu? I have some old shipmates still there and it would realy do them and honor. Heres a good shot of one of their birds...

Nice model by PAD, especially the sounds. These fly around here regularly so naturally I can't help but give this one a little personal touch.
I'm working to make the dynamics and lighting closer to specs. Like this one needs an airspeed of 140+ with full flaps and nose up pitch to maintain glide slope. The real one is closer to 130 with slight nose down pitch, Maybe some real "Trash Hauler" (with all due regard) pilots can chime in here as I am going off observation and data off the net. Will post what I come up with when I'm done.

Adding autosmoke to the PAD C-130

Hi,

For those who want:

A easy way to add autosmoke to the C130 engines (they are smoky engines when great power applied)

First you must download this addon (from Avsim) :

File Description:
FS9 and FS2002 EFFECTS: Nick's Jet Smoke ***FINAL EDITION***
This update is the FINAL VERSION of my smoke effect project. It is the result of weeks in tweaking and testing. Coupled with the enormous amount of feedback provided by the community the effects have developed into this awesome upgrade which I personally endorse and use. This update contains and entire list (see Readme) of visual quality fixes which include resolving issues coupled with using the simulator dynamic weather feature while running the effects and frame rate issues from the first update. It also includes a complete tutorial on how to tweak the visual effects and the original .xml gauge to your personal taste.

Editing the aircraft.cfg and the panel.cfg

Aircraft.cfg

The light section will be (bold are the added)

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, 1.625, -67.36, 1.847, fx_navredh
light.1 = 3, 1.625, 67.36, 1.847, fx_navgreh
light.2 = 3, -63.200, 0.0,0.800, fx_navwhih
light.3 = 2, 0.514, -67.360, 1.8470, fx_strobeh
light.4 = 2, 0.514, 67.360, 1.8470, fx_strobeh
light.5 = 1, -51.73, 0.000000, 27.96, fx_beaconh
light.6 = 1, -11.40, 0.000000, -14.30, fx_beaconb
light.7 = 4, 39.50000, 0.000000, -4.40000, fx_vclighth
light.8 = 4, 20.00000, 0.000000, -6.40000, fx_vclighth
light.9 = 4,-20.00000, 0.000000, -6.40000, fx_vclighth
light.10 = 7, -4.98, 35.14, 2.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727.fx
light.11 = 7, -5.37, 16.37, 2.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727.fx
light.12 = 7, -5.37, -16.37, 2.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727.fx
light.13 = 7, -4.98, -35.14, 2.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727.fx

The panel.cfg

You must add this gauge string at the end of the gauges in the [Window00]

gaugeXX=nn-gauges!NickSmokeFXControl2.xml, 0,0
(where XX is the last gauge number +1)

Nota:

fx_nicksmokeMD-727.fx is one of the smoke effect available in the Nick addon.
Depending your taste you can choice a other .. even other smoke effects you already have from some other aircrafts ......

This mod is easy to apply to any planes requiring autosmoke :)

OK I'm about 90% done so you folks can try out what I have so far. I edited so many things so I just threw the whole thing in. MOIs, dynamics, engine placement, contacts, lights, smoke, flaps...
As I was flying around I thought the roll axis was too high, so lowering that meant changing the thrust placement here, and adjusting the power scalar meant adjusting drag over there, and on and on. But it now flies much as the real one does, again as best as I can make it. Love to hear some feed back and I don't mind making more changes. Apologies to previous posts, I didn't try out any of those edits so try'em all I say.

BTW.. is there a way to maybe darken the cockpit glass a bit, would be a nice touch. I'll be quiet now.

Just copy and paste from [weight and balance]. Don't forget to make a back-up first:icon_lol:

Thanks for the tweaks.
I could almost make it buck over backwards before when landing, with reversers and standing on the brakes. It was all over the place...a near rodeo crow-hop. Tamed down just right with the tweaks and handles nice in the air.

Something is still out of whack... after returning the reversers to idle the props nearly stop, the glass cockpit loses power for a micro second and the hydraulics warnings kick on for a bit. Other than that, getting darned close.

I could never turn the C130 around either until I changed the steerwheel angle from 90 to 60. If I remember right, FS9 doesn't recognize that steer angle like FS2002 did.

This one works for me:
point.0= 1, 36.99, 0.00, -16.22, 9000, 0, 0.50, 60, 0.18, 2.50, 0.60, 5.000, 5.000, 0, 400.0, 400.0

I have the same prop problem. Upon landing, or when first loaded the props pinwheel in the breeze but look normal when any power is applied.
I had problems with ground steering as well. Sometimes moving the main gear contact point back a little, which I did, seems to induce more virtual weight on the nose wheel which then makes steering more responsive. Reducing the yaw MOI helps too but that creates other problems. I'll try your entry. I have no idea how FS interprets data to make this happen.
I also forgot that I changed the panel.cfg a little so the 2d panel on proper approach allows the threshold to be just visible over the panel face. I'll post that tonight.

Thanks for the tweaks, Aeromed! I had been playing around with it as well, but hadn't gotten it to my satisfaction, your's works great. One other suggestion for the rest of the tweakers, if you change this line in the .cfg autopilot section:

autothrottle_max_rpm =90 to 250 instead of 90 then the speed hold will work. Really helps me with those ILS approaches in low viz conditions, lol.

After a bit more investigation the best I came up with was 32 for steering angle. At least it taxis OK.

[contact_points]
point.0= 1, 36.99, 0.00, -16.22, 9000, 0, 0.50, 33, 0.18, 2.50, 0.60, 5.000, 5.000, 0, 400.0, 400.0

The panel edits in the panel CFG are:

VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=8.500, 0.000, 0.000

and at the very bottom

[Default View]
X=0
Y=0
SIZE_X=8191
SIZE_Y=6503

these make the runway visible in the 2d panel and take away the aspect view shift going from 2d to VC panels, so the horizon doesn't jump up or down on the view change.

Nice find, claudius!

A big 'thank you!' for your HU about the autosmoke too :applause: !

I have a current project about to be rolled out soon for which some additional smoke will be very useful...

Cheers,
Markus.
