PC Pilot-Rise of Flight

Flame On!
I noticed that in the Jan-Feb 2009 issue of PC Pilot they are supposed to have a write up on "Rise Of Flight". Has anyone contacted them about BHAH yet? Need to. This is the short note in the issue preview- "‘Rise of Flight’
World War I has been largely neglected by flight sim developers in recent years. However, things are set to change with the release of ‘Rise of Flight’. We decided to find out more about this promising recreation of the air war of 1914-1918.
Either they don't know about "Between Heaven and Hell", or maybe they don't consider it worth their time since it wasn't done by a "real" developer. Which ever the case may be, they and their readership will definitely be missing out if they don't pick it up!

The last WWI simulator doing a real dynamic campaign was RB II and RB3D on the scale OFF is doing it with the variety of planes and the addition of ground targets, and trench activity. So it's been almost 10 years now since a WWI simulator of this caliber has been put together, and we didn't have the computers back then like we do now, where the game can handle all the different artwork for the different squadrons like OFF has. Also the ability to fly the 2 seaters and fight in the as the observer.

It's a lot. The most advanced technically active WWI simulator to date.

I sure hope there's a comprehensive manual to go with it! For folks familiar with OFF it won't take too long to adjust to the new version, but I wouldn't want o be completely new to it and try to figure it out.

Well we did contact various magazines yes (doh) it's up to them if they want to talk about OFF P3 or not unfortunately.

With all that OFF BHAH has to offer (which, from what I hear from both dev teams, is considerably more that RoF) I was shocked that a magazine that is dedicated to pc piloting has not mentioned OFF BHAH. I just joined the forum over at PC Pilot.com and as soon as I am able I will let them know about it.
Don't get me wrong, RoF is a beautifully done sim, in some ways better than OFF, but eye candy isn't everything. Just the difference in the number of flyable aircraft (39 for OFF and 2 for RoF) and the 3000+ authentic aircraft skins puts OFF head and shoulders above RoF IMHO. If the folks at Neoqb sell additional planes for RoF for around $5 each you'll be looking at spending another $185 to get as many aircraft as OFF has initially.
Both sims will no doubt find their way onto my hard drive eventually, but I have a feeling that I'll be spending much more time flying OFF than RoF. Just my opinion.

Rest Easy old boy .. Word I get, is everything in the drop-down menus on the Hanger Page :wiggle:

OFF is mentioned in the introduction of the PC Pilot article as one of the classic WWI sims. They are aware of it, if I remember correctly there was even a feature about P2. I’m sure they’ll be interested in P3 when it is released.

Indeed there was a feature on P2 in PC Pilot. That's how I found out about you people in the first place.

Yes there was a write up in PC Pilot back in July/Aug 2006 issue but very little else since then, unless we all let the magazine know what we want in the magazine they are not to know. So lets all just go out and purchase this one issue and write (or email) in to to say how much you enjoy reading about WW1 sims, if only half of this forum members did this then some one at PC Pilot would im sure will respond.
PC Pilot magazine changed ownership some time ago and the new owners are the same group as own Flypast magazine and many other flight magazines.

A good friend of mine who writes flightsim related reviews is going to be doing the review of OFF3.I Introduced him to OFF2 a few months ago ,and, on learning about the upcoming OFF3 has volunteered to review it. He is at present on holiday in the U.K. I have been keeping him informed (as far as I am able) as to the situation with OFF3) . Hopefully by the time his holiday ends OFF3 will be out, so OFF 3 can get some good publicity on a website that is read by a wide international audience.
In order that OFF 3 can be the success that I'm sure we all hope, we can play a part in a small way by telling people and writing to magazines etc.

rise of flight=Serious Computor upgrade

Recommended technical requirements

Platform: PC
Processor: Core 2 Duo (Intel) 2.8 HGz

This info obtained from their website. Seems to be a pretty demanding game on first glance but the screenies are pretty amazeing as well.
As nice as it is it seems to fall short in the number of flyable's but hopefully that will change.
as i have stated over and over; There is room for all and i for one plan to enjoy both.

O.F.F IS POUND FOR POUND A BETTER BANG FOR YOUR BUCK I.M.H.O. AS IT AT PRESENT IS LIGHTYEARS AHEAD IN BOTH SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND AIRCRAFT NUMBERS.
REGUARDLESS,LETS GET THEM BOTH COMEING AND THE SOONER THE BETTER:costumes:.

Coming from the commercial angle jobwise, I would like to make a suggestion to the OFF Team, that might help to get reviewed. The least you should do is, to send a copy of P3 to every magazine, you'd like to get reviewed in.
I believe, that big game producing companies even make more "presents" to the editorial staff. But I'm certain, that BHAH will be so good on it's terrain, that it can't be ignored, and doesn't need that behaviour.
It only needs to be given to them, so they can test fly it and play with it - and get excited! And they will - there's no other WW1 sim, that could reach up to this level!
If they all received a game disc, plus a letter telling them, who to communicate with, plus the adress of the website (with the advice to check the preview movies), it should become a great "take-off".

I think it'd be better if you delivered them in person, dressed up in WWI flying gear. And of course, OVS could dress up in the outfit from his avatar!

.... how about if I dress up and bring my whip,... think that might work? :a1089:

LOL!
WF2

And to round-out the conversation, I'll insult them :costumes:

If you do, post the pictures here.:applause:

If they won't let you post them :censored:, I'll send you my email address.

What the heck, I'll give you my address and you can provide a personal demonstration. ;):jump:

Yes, but P3 is nearer release than ROF is- a lot nearer- and i would have thought it would have been fairer journalism to feature P3 before ROF, on a chronological basis.
I also intend to remind Pc Pilot that there IS another WW1 sim for their reviewers.

You could post preview pics here, so we could form a jury to decide, wether to send OvS in his avatar costume, or you with the whip (and what dress up - shiny black leather ?) But when you go, they might get :isadizzy: and forget the review? Well - just send the pics, and we'll decide the rest later...?
