Piglet's Porter...

Hello:

It sure is great to have a PC-6 Porter to fly again !:jump:

FYI: After numerous FS re-installations since FS9 and FireFox browser glitches with "script-control" extensions that fouled up my FLASH functionality, I couldn't get my paid FSX updates for the FSD Porter from their goofy FLASH-dependent website access mechanism.

I haven't tried again since my last re-install; I'm not ready for another round of e-mails from FSD "support" initially raising questions about whether my (legitimately purchased) copy is pirated (it's not).

So, many thanks, Tim for making this available to us. :salute:

BTW: When I load up the Porter with the default "Air America livery or Larry's Mt. Cook livery for my favorite night flight at spotlope's Plum Island, I can't see the textures very well.

During the first Porter load sequence per FS session, I get some or all of these messages:

"Failure to load texture: PC6C_CONSOLES.DDS"

"Failure to load texture: PC6C_CONSOLES_SPEC.DDS"

"Failure to load texture: PC6C_REFLECT.DDS"

"Failure to load texture: PC6C_AIRCREW_LM.DDS"

NOTE: These only appear because I'm using a FSX.Cfg setting to troubleshoot some scenery issues elsewhere in FSX:

[SCENERY]
// To show alerts or areas, set to = 1
// To hide alerts or areas, set to = 0

// Alert for missing textures
ShowMissingTextureAlert=1

// Alert for missing objects
MissingLibraryAlert=1

I see using "Quick View Plus", in the "PC-6C_H2.MDL" file the following textures are referenced in Tim's MDL:

PC6C_01.DDS
PC6C_01_BUMP.DDS
PC6C_GLASS.DDS
PC6C_PANELS.DDS
PC6C_PANELS_LM.DDS
PC6C_PANELS_SPEC.DDS
PC6C_PROP.DDS
PC6C_01_SPEC.DDS
PC6C_02.DDS
PC6C_02_LM.DDS
PC6C_02_SPEC.DDS
PC6C_AIRCREW.DDS
PC6C_CONSOLES.DDS
PC6C_CONSOLES_LM.DDS
PC6C_CONSOLES_SPEC.DDS

Since I've not tinkered with aircraft texturing since FS9, I'm uncertain what one must do to get the Porter to display properly at night, and if one need be concerned about the above 2 missing texture alerts. :confused:

In FSX, should one also be able to use a "PC6C_01_LM.DDS" and/or "PC6C_AIRCREW_LM.DDS" added to that folder without being explicitly listed in Tim's "PC-6C_H2.MDL" file ?:isadizzy:

Any further generous contributions of ready-made night textures and/or "How-To" info for this excellent aircraft would be greatly appreciated. :ernae:

PS: I'm also using Larry's new "pc6c_01_bump.dds" bumpmap file from SOH (I made a ZIPped backup of Tim's original before overwriting it).

Thanks again,

GaryGB

First of all, i gotta say i love this aircraft! Honestly i think it is payware quality. If any of you guys have A2A Shockwave lights redux installed, i have made the PC-6 lights to be those nice 3d lights, and from what i know nobody else has made this config yet.

So just copy + paste to the [lights] section:

Code:
light.0 =3, 2.335000, -24.862000, 3.179000, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 =3, 2.335000, 24.862000, 3.179000, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.2 =3, -21.299000, 0.000000, 1.509000, fx_shockwave_navwhi
light.3 =1, -4.035000, -0.807000, 3.297000, fx__shockwave_beacon_rotating_red
light.4 =1, -3.805000, -1.220000, -2.326000, fx__shockwave_beacon_rotating_red
light.5 =5, 2, 22.0, 2.5, fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_old
light.6 =5, 2, -22.0, 2.5, fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_old

Swiss Air Force liveries

I finally had the time and a working computer to finish the Swiss paints I was working on. One is a Swiss Air Force in cammo, the other is the "Felix" Porter in the Patrouille Suisse livery. Both now available at the library.

I have finished two more paints and working on a third one - only a few minor things to paint - then they can go out........ I have also updated my first paints and add them to the upcoming package.

Greetings :wavey: Dirk

Those look nice, Dirk. Just a heads up on something. The US flag, when placed on the starboard side of the plane, should have the star field in the upper right corner, not the left.

Although I normally never make repaints from civil aircrafts I will see what I can do. But you need to be patient as I currently don't have much time.

Since there appears to be many experienced aircraft repainters here, may I ask if someone could be so kind as to offer a solution for my questions on the prior page of this thread ? :ques:

I'd appreciate some help in regards to making this PC-6 properly visible at night, and whether the reported "missing texture" alerts require some end-user intervention to optimize use of Tim's fine aircraft in FSX. :redf:

Thanks in advance for any insights shared with an appreciative, wanna-be "Porter Night-Flyer" ! :cool:

Ive got plenty of time and will hang tight on my end. I look forward to it and thank you very much.

GaryGB, the Porter "as it is" should display correctly during the night. When I read you message I think the two missing files are just not recognised by FSX.
(I assume you already checked whether these file are in the texture folder....)

When this is the case, perhaps re-download and re-install is the most simple solution.

Cheers,
Huub

Thanks for the reply, Huub. ;)

I'll try a re-install and see if that changes the texture messages and night display.
