Pilatus Porter.

Ten years ago when I started flying in MSFS2000 I had a freeware FSD Pilatus PC-6 Porter. It worked in Fs2002 but no longer in Fs9. I never bought the payware aircraft until yesterday when I saw a thread in the FsX forum by Roger about this aircraft. For only $15 I got the V2.0 which includes the land, float and ski versions and some free repaints; what a great deal!

It might not be the prettiest aircraft around but it does the job it was designed for very well; some excellent STOL capabilities!

Amount of runway used on landing with an 11 knots headwing:

Of course it does a typical Porter trick too: put the prop in reverse and dive at a ninety degree angle without overspeeding:

Default Courchevel used to be a problem because of the altitude, short runway and the tress at the end of the strip:

Well, not in this:

LOL PT, I had the freeware version as well in FS2000. I remember one day Scott and I were flying in deep mountain territory, everything was fogged in. So, with FSNav, I located the altitude and beginning of the runway at the airport we wanted to land at surrounded by mountains. It was raining hard, fogged in, I flew to the start of the runway about 5000' AGL and dove straight down, flaps full, props reversed, and pulled up just 150' above the runway as I broke through the clouds/fog, and glided to a nice soft landing. Man! Sweaty palms. LOL

Well I did it. Cost me some lunches but who cares. Other than the float texture crashing the sim it's great. I just moved one of the other textures into the float folder and problem gone. Thanks for the tip!

For those looking for a freeware Pilatus Porter, there is one on Flightsim.com. DMPORTER.zip and a fix file, DMPORTFX.ZIP. I haven't tried this plane out..just downloaded it.

Just checked it out....While it is far better than any aircraft modeling I could do....I found the plane was best parked in the Recycle Bin. No VC.

FSD Porter, well worth every cent.I like my Bunter Fredi!
The Porter is one of those aircraft that the more outlandish the color scheme the better.
Very nice screen captures by the way.

Oyez...a payware Gem!
I love looking at the landing gear of that model.
If you dig a bit, it comes in some wild paints too.

This aircraft is where my name on here came from; PilatusTurbo, from Pilatus Turbo Porter. :d I think it's a great lookin' airplane, very unique :ernae:

Gotta love FSD and the Porter. I too dropped a couple lunch's worth on the porter and the 337/O-2 package. IMHO, FSD has set the bar for payware models. Wont find a finer 337 or Porter out there!!!

Then this paint might bring back some more memories, Milton:

There's a very colourful one of the Austrian Airforce at Flightsim.com with filename 'pc6parot.zip' but the autoinstaller unfortunately doesn't work; presumably it was for the previous payware version..

Where did you get that one? Looks pretty good! EDIT: Found it at the-pegasus.com!

Camo looks good too on this odd bird:

I've had this one since version 1.0; I never got version 2.0 as it was more money
(and no discount for 'upgrade' from FSD).

Most of the paints at Pegasus World of Simflight can be made to fit the 1.0
with a little work, so I'm happy

Ferry_vO,sorry you can't get the Austrian Parrot to install. My FSD Porter must be slightly older.Bunter Fredi is the only Porter I fly.I have a thing for bright colors I guess.

Can't seem to get texture one of any repaints to load via the required installer. It says the path is not found even though it is exactly as it appears in the example. I then browsed right to it but the install box would still not highlight. Are there version conflicts?

Those are repaints for the older Fs02/04 version; I've had that same issue with the Austrian paint in the post above. The Fs9/FsX (Port) version uses a different kind of installer for the liveries.

I'm still flying the FS2002 version and haven't used the auto installer for years. I just make a copy of the previous Config entry and modify it with the wee bits of info in the paint.cfg file included with every livery and I'm ready to go. I literally have every skin made to date (at least those I am aware of). It is one of the most fun birds in my hanger.

Hi,

I'm still flying the FS2002 version and haven't used the auto installer for years.

This not work when the livery is distributed as a "EXE" :)
Some are "EXE" and require the use of the autoinstaller.
Unfortunately it's two versions of the autoinstaller and it's no compatibility !

I have the FSD Pilatus Porter and i would really like a copy of the Australian Army camoflage repaint. Unfortunately i can't open the file. Could someone send me the two unique BMP's for this repaint please?

Regards Paul Day.

Thanks for the reminder of this great plane! Your shots were so good I went over and bought it!

Kind regards

John

I purchased the FS2004 version when they first released v1.0 of that model, but after seeing screenshots here in this thread, my hesitation has faded... I just bought v2.0 of the model. I had no idea they updated the interior and stuff; the old interior textures were very bland and boring. It now looks like they've modeled boxes and stuff, which is good for my Air Hauler business. :d :ernae:
